1 D escendió Sansón a Timnat y vio allí a una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos.

¶ And as Samson went down to Timnath, he saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.

2 R egresó entonces y lo contó a su padre y a su madre, diciendo: —He visto en Timnat una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos; os ruego que me la toméis por mujer.

And he came up and told his father and his mother, saying, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore get her for me to wife.

3 S u padre y su madre le dijeron: —¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus hermanos, ni en todo nuestro pueblo, para que vayas tú a tomar mujer de los filisteos incircuncisos? Sansón respondió a su padre: —Tómame esta por mujer, porque ella me agrada.

Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren or among all my people that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleases me well.

4 S u padre y su madre no sabían que esto venía de Jehová, porque él buscaba ocasión contra los filisteos, pues en aquel tiempo los filisteos dominaban sobre Israel.

But his father and his mother did not know that it was of the LORD that he sought an occasion against the Philistines, for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

5 S ansón descendió con su padre y con su madre a Timnat. Cuando llegaron a las viñas de Timnat, un león joven vino rugiendo hacia él.

Then Samson went down with his father and his mother to Timnath, and when they came to the vineyards of Timnath, behold, a young lion came roaring against him.

6 E ntonces el espíritu de Jehová vino sobre Sansón, quien despedazó al león como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en sus manos. Él no contó ni a su padre ni a su madre lo que había hecho.

And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand, but he did not make known unto his father or his mother what he had done.

7 D escendió, pues, y habló con la mujer; y ella agradó a Sansón.

And he went down and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.

8 A l volver después de algunos días para tomarla, se apartó del camino para ver el cuerpo muerto del león; y vio que en el cuerpo del león había un enjambre de abejas y un panal de miel.

And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside from the way to see the carcase of the lion; and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.

9 T omándolo en sus manos, fue comiéndose la miel por el camino. Cuando alcanzó a su padre y a su madre, les dio también a ellos para que comieran, pero no les reveló que aquella miel la había tomado del cuerpo del león.

And he took of it in his hands and went along the way eating, and when he came to his father and mother, he also gave them some to eat, but he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.

10 F ue, pues, su padre adonde estaba la mujer, y Sansón hizo allí un banquete, porque así solían hacer los jóvenes.

¶ So his father went down unto the woman; and Samson made a banquet there, for the young men used to do so.

11 A conteció que cuando los filisteos lo vieron, tomaron treinta compañeros para que estuvieran con él.

And when they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him,

12 A estos treinta dijo Sansón: —Yo os propondré ahora un enigma; si en los siete días del banquete me lo explicáis y descifráis, yo os daré treinta vestidos de lino y treinta vestidos de fiesta.

unto whom Samson said, I will now put forth an enigma unto you, which if ye can declare it and discover it to me within the seven days of the banquet, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty changes of garments.

13 P ero si no me lo podéis descifrar, entonces vosotros me daréis a mí los treinta vestidos de lino y los vestidos de fiesta. Ellos respondieron: —Propón tu enigma y lo oiremos.

But if ye cannot declare it to me, then ye shall give me thirty sheets and thirty changes of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy enigma that we may hear it.

14 É l les dijo: —Del devorador salió comida, y del fuerte salió dulzura. Ellos no pudieron descifrar el enigma en tres días.

And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth food, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not declare the enigma in three days.

15 A l séptimo día dijeron a la mujer de Sansón: «Induce a tu marido a que nos explique este enigma, para que no te quememos a ti y a la casa de tu padre. ¿Acaso nos habéis llamado aquí para despojarnos?»

And it came to pass on the seventh day that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband that he may declare unto us this enigma lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire. Have ye called us here to impoverish us?

16 L loró la mujer de Sansón en presencia de él, y dijo: —Solamente me aborreces, no me amas, pues no me explicas el enigma que propusiste a los hijos de mi pueblo. Él respondió: —Ni a mi padre ni a mi madre lo he explicado, ¿y te lo había de explicar a ti?

And Samson’s wife wept before him and said, Thou dost only hate me and dost not love me, for thou hast not declared unto me the enigma that thou hast put forth unto the sons of my people. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it to my father nor my mother, and must I tell it to thee?

17 A quella mujer lloró en presencia de Sansón los siete días que duró el banquete, pero al séptimo día él se lo declaró, porque ella lo presionaba, y la mujer se lo contó a los hijos de su pueblo.

And she wept before him the seven days while their banquet lasted, but on the seventh day, he told her, because she lay sore upon him, and she declared the enigma to the sons of her people.

18 A l séptimo día, antes que el sol se pusiera, los de la ciudad le dijeron: —¿Qué cosa es más dulce que la miel? ¿Y qué cosa es más fuerte que el león? Sansón les respondió: —Si no araseis con mi novilla, nunca habríais descubierto mi enigma.

And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye would have never discovered my enigma.

19 E l espíritu de Jehová vino sobre él; descendió Sansón a Ascalón y mató a treinta hombres de ellos y, tomando sus despojos, pagó con las vestiduras a los que habían explicado el enigma. Después, encendido de enojo, regresó a la casa de su padre.

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and slew thirty men of them and taking their spoil, he gave the changes of garments to those who had explained the enigma. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.

20 S u mujer fue dada a un compañero al que Sansón había tratado como amigo.

But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had fed him before.
