1 C uando el rey David era viejo y avanzado en días, lo cubrían de ropas, pero no se calentaba.

¶ Now king David was old and stricken in years, and they covered him with clothes, but he did not become warm.

2 L e dijeron, por tanto, sus siervos: «Busquen para mi señor, el rey, una joven virgen que lo atienda y lo abrigue, que duerma a su lado y así mi señor, el rey, entrará en calor.»

Therefore, his slaves said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king and let her warm him and let her lie in thy bosom, and she shall warm my lord the king.

3 B uscaron, pues, una joven hermosa por toda la tierra de Israel; encontraron a Abisag, la sunamita, y la llevaron al rey.

So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel and found Abishag, a Shunammite and brought her to the king.

4 L a joven era hermosa; ella abrigaba al rey y lo servía, pero el rey nunca la conoció. Adonías usurpa el trono

And the damsel was very fair and warmed the king and ministered to him, but the king knew her not.

5 E ntonces Adonías hijo de Haguit se rebeló, diciendo: «Yo reinaré.» Se hizo de carros, de gente de a caballo y de cincuenta hombres que corrieran delante de él.

¶ Then Adonijah, the son of Haggith, exalted himself, saying, I will reign, and he prepared chariots and horsemen for himself and fifty men to run before him.

6 E n todos sus días su padre nunca lo había reprendido diciéndole: «¿Por qué haces esto?» Además, era de muy hermoso parecer, y había nacido después de Absalón.

And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was very handsome; and he had begotten him after Absalom.

7 A donías se había puesto de acuerdo con Joab hijo de Sarvia y con el sacerdote Abiatar, los cuales lo ayudaban.

And he conferred with Joab, the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar, the priest who helped Adonijah.

8 P ero el sacerdote Sadoc, Benaía hijo de Joiada, el profeta Natán, Simei, Rei y todos los grandes de David no seguían a Adonías.

But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan, the prophet, and Shimei and Rei and the mighty men of David did not follow Adonijah.

9 M ató Adonías un día ovejas, vacas y animales cebados junto a la peña de Zohelet, que está cerca de la fuente de Rogel, y convidó a todos sus hermanos, los hijos del rey, y a todos los hombres de Judá, siervos del rey.

And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s slaves;

10 P ero no convidó al profeta Natán ni a Benaía ni a los grandes, ni a su hermano Salomón.

but he did not invite Nathan, the prophet, nor Benaiah nor the mighty men nor Solomon his brother.

11 E ntonces Natán dijo a Betsabé, madre de Salomón: —¿No has oído que Adonías hijo de Haguit se ha proclamado rey sin saberlo David, nuestro señor?

¶ And Nathan spoke unto Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, reigns without David our lord knowing of it?

12 V en pues, ahora, y oye mi consejo, para que conserves tu vida y la de tu hijo Salomón.

Now, therefore, come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel that thou may deliver thine own life and the life of thy son Solomon.

13 V e, preséntate ante el rey David y dile: “Rey y señor mío, ¿no juraste a tu sierva, diciendo: ‘Salomón, tu hijo, reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono’? ¿Por qué, pues, reina Adonías?”

Go and enter in unto King David and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

14 M ientras estés allí hablando con el rey, yo entraré detrás de ti y reafirmaré tus palabras.

And while thou art yet speaking there with the king, I also will come in after thee and finish thy words.

15 E ntonces Betsabé entró en la habitación del rey. El rey estaba muy viejo y Abisag, la sunamita, lo servía.

And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber; and the king was very old; and Abishag, the Shunammite, ministered unto the king.

16 B etsabé se inclinó e hizo una reverencia al rey. El rey dijo: —¿Qué te pasa?

And Bathsheba bowed and worshipped the king. And the king said, What dost thou desire?

17 E lla le respondió: —Señor mío, tú juraste a tu sierva por Jehová, tu Dios, diciendo: “Salomón, tu hijo, reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono.”

And she said unto him, My lord, thou didst sware by the LORD thy God unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne;

18 P ero ahora reina Adonías, sin que tú, mi señor y rey, todavía lo sepas.

and now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, thou dost not know it.

19 H a matado bueyes, animales cebados y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, al sacerdote Abiatar y a Joab, general del ejército; pero no ha convidado a Salomón, tu siervo.

He has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance and has called all the sons of the king and Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the captain of the host; but he has not invited Solomon, thy slave.

20 E ntre tanto, rey y señor mío, los ojos de todo Israel están puestos en ti, para que les anuncies quién se ha de sentar en el trono después de mi señor, el rey.

And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee that thou should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 D e otra manera sucederá que cuando mi señor, el rey, duerma con sus padres, yo y mi hijo Salomón seremos considerados culpables.

Otherwise, it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers that I and my son Solomon shall be counted as sinners.

22 M ientras ella aún hablaba con el rey, llegó el profeta Natán.

And while she yet spoke with the king, Nathan, the prophet, also came in.

23 L e avisaron al rey diciendo: «Aquí está el profeta Natán.» Cuando él entró donde estaba el rey, se postró delante del rey rostro en tierra,

And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan, the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24 y dijo: —Rey y señor mío, ¿has dicho tú: “Adonías reinará después de mí y se sentará en mi trono”?

And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

25 P orque hoy descendió a sacrificar bueyes, animales cebados y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, a los capitanes del ejército, y también al sacerdote Abiatar: están comiendo y bebiendo delante de él, y gritan: “¡Viva el rey Adonías!”

For today he has gone down and has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance and has called all the king’s sons and the captains of the host and Abiathar, the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him and say, Long live King Adonijah.

26 P ero ni a mí, tu siervo, ni al sacerdote Sadoc ni a Benaía hijo de Joiada ni a Salomón, tu siervo, ha convidado.

But he did not invite me, thy slave, nor Zadok, the priest, nor Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, nor thy slave Solomon.

27 ¿ Es que esto ha sido ordenado por mi señor, el rey, sin haber dado a conocer a tus siervos quién se había de sentar en el trono de mi señor, el rey, después de él? David proclama rey a Salomón

Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not declared unto thy slave who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28 E l rey David respondió diciendo: «Llamadme a Betsabé.» Entró ella a la presencia del rey y se quedó en pie delante de él.

Then King David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

29 E ntonces el rey hizo este juramento: —¡Vive Jehová!, que ha redimido mi alma de toda angustia,

And the king swore and said, As the LORD lives, who has ransomed my soul out of all distress,

30 q ue como yo te he jurado por Jehová, Dios de Israel, diciendo: “Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí y se sentará sobre mi trono en lugar mío”, así lo haré hoy.

even as I swore unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

31 B etsabé se inclinó ante el rey, con su rostro en tierra, y haciendo una reverencia al rey, dijo: —Viva mi señor, el rey David, para siempre.

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and did reverence to the king and said, Let my lord King David live for ever.

32 Y el rey David dijo: —Llamadme al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán y a Benaía hijo de Joiada. Ellos entraron a la presencia del rey,

¶ And King David said, Call me Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. And they entered into the presence of the king.

33 y él les dijo: —Tomad con vosotros los siervos de vuestro señor, montad a mi hijo Salomón en mi mula y llevadlo a Gihón.

And the king said unto them, Take with you the slaves of your lord and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule and bring him down to Gihon.

34 A llí lo ungirán el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán como rey sobre Israel; vosotros tocaréis la trompeta y gritaréis: “¡Viva el rey Salomón!”

And let Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, anoint him there king over Israel; and ye shall blow the shofar and say, Long live king Solomon.

35 D espués iréis detrás de él, y vendrá a sentarse sobre mi trono y reinará en mi lugar, porque lo he escogido para que sea príncipe de Israel y de Judá.

Afterward ye shall come up after him that he may come and sit upon my throne, for he shall reign in my stead, for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

36 E ntonces Benaía hijo de Joiada respondió al rey: —Amén. Así lo diga Jehová, Dios de mi señor, el rey.

Then Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, answered the king and said, Amen. Let the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

37 D e la manera que Jehová ha estado con mi señor, el rey, así esté con Salomón, y haga mayor su trono que el trono de mi señor, el rey David.

As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so let him be with Solomon and let him make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.

38 D escendieron el sacerdote Sadoc, el profeta Natán, Benaía hijo de Joiada, los cereteos y los peleteos, montaron a Salomón en la mula del rey David y lo llevaron a Gihón.

So Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and caused Solomon to ride upon King David’s mule and brought him to Gihon.

39 T omó el sacerdote Sadoc el cuerno del aceite del Tabernáculo y ungió a Salomón; tocaron la trompeta y gritó todo el pueblo: “¡Viva el rey Salomón!”

And Zadok, the priest, took the horn of the oil of the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew the shofar, and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.

40 D espués subió todo el pueblo detrás de él; cantaba la gente con flautas y manifestaba tan gran alegría, que parecía que la tierra se hundía bajo sus gritos.

Afterward all the people came up following him, and the people sang with flutes and rejoiced with great joy so that it seemed the earth rent with the sound of them.

41 L o oyó Adonías, y todos los convidados que con él estaban, cuando ya habían acabado de comer. También oyó Joab el sonido de la trompeta, y dijo: «¿Por qué se alborota la ciudad con tanto estruendo?»

¶ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it when they had finished eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the shofar, he said, Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

42 M ientras él aún hablaba, llegó Jonatán, hijo del sacerdote Abiatar, al cual dijo Adonías: —Entra, porque tú eres hombre valiente y traerás buenas noticias.

And while he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan, the son of Abiathar, the priest, came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in, for thou art a valiant man and bringest good tidings.

43 J onatán respondió a Adonías: —Ciertamente nuestro señor, el rey David, ha hecho rey a Salomón;

And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord King David has made Solomon king.

44 e l rey ha enviado con él al sacerdote Sadoc y al profeta Natán, a Benaía hijo de Joiada, y también a los cereteos y a los peleteos, los cuales lo montaron en la mula del rey.

And the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule;

45 E l sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán lo han ungido rey en Gihón; de allí han subido alegremente y la ciudad está llena de estruendo. Éste es el alboroto que habéis oído.

and Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, have anointed him king in Gihon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

46 M ás aún, Salomón se ha sentado en el trono del reino,

And also Solomon has been seated on the throne of the kingdom.

47 y aun los siervos del rey han venido a bendecir a nuestro señor, el rey David, diciendo: “Dios haga bueno el nombre de Salomón más que tu nombre, y haga mayor su trono que el tuyo.” Y el rey adoró en la cama,

And moreover, the king’s slaves came to bless our lord King David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king worshipped upon the bed.

48 y ha dicho además así: “Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de Israel, que ha dado hoy quien se siente en mi trono, y lo vean mis ojos.”

And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, mine eyes even seeing it.

49 E ntonces se estremecieron todos los convidados que estaban con Adonías, se levantaron y cada uno se fue por su camino.

And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid and rose up and went each one his way.

50 P ero Adonías tuvo miedo de Salomón, se levantó y fue a asirse de los cuernos del altar.

And Adonijah, fearing the presence of Solomon, arose and went and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

51 L uego avisaron a Salomón: —Adonías tiene miedo del rey Salomón, pues se ha asido de los cuernos del altar diciendo: “Júreme hoy el rey Salomón que no matará a espada a su siervo.”

And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, for he has caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his slave with the sword.

52 Y Salomón dijo: —Si él es hombre de bien, ni uno de sus cabellos caerá en tierra; pero si se halla mal en él, morirá.

And Solomon said, If he will show himself virtuous, there shall not one hair of him fall to the ground, but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

53 E l rey Salomón mandó que lo trajeran del altar; vino él y se inclinó ante el rey Salomón. Salomón le dijo: —Vete a tu casa.

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to King Solomon. And Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
