1 D ijo entonces Eliseo: —Oíd la palabra de Jehová: Así dijo Jehová: “Mañana a estas horas valdrá un siclo el seah de flor de harina, y un siclo dos seahs de cebada, a la puerta de Samaria.”

¶ Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus hath the LORD said, Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

2 U n príncipe sobre cuyo brazo el rey se apoyaba, respondió al varón de Dios y le dijo: —Si Jehová abriera ahora ventanas en el cielo, ¿sería esto así? Él dijo: —Tú lo verás con tus propios ojos, pero no comerás de ello.

Then a captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat of it.

3 H abía a la entrada de la puerta cuatro hombres leprosos, y se decían los unos a los otros: —¿Por qué estamos aquí esperando la muerte?

¶ And there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate, who said one to another, Why shall we stay here until we die?

4 S i tratamos de entrar en la ciudad, moriremos en ella, por el hambre que hay en la ciudad; y si nos quedamos aquí, también moriremos. Vamos, pues, ahora y pasémonos al campamento de los sirios: si ellos nos dan la vida, viviremos, y si nos dan la muerte, moriremos.

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there; and if we stay here, we shall die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians; if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 S e levantaron, pues, al anochecer, para ir al campamento de los sirios, y al llegar a la entrada del campamento de los sirios, no había allí nadie.

And they rose up at the beginning of the night, to go unto the camp of the Syrians; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 J ehová había hecho que en el campamento de los sirios se oyera estruendo de carros, ruido de caballos y el estrépito de un gran ejército, por lo que se dijeron unos a otros: «El rey de Israel ha tomado a sueldo contra nosotros a los reyes de los heteos y a los reyes de los egipcios para que vengan a atacarnos.»

For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host; and they said one to another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 A sí que se levantaron y huyeron al anochecer, abandonando sus tiendas, sus caballos, sus asnos y el campamento tal cual estaba. Huyeron para salvar sus vidas.

Therefore they had arisen and fled at the beginning of the night and had left their tents and their horses and their asses, even the camp as it was, and had fled for their lives.

8 C uando los leprosos llegaron al límite del campamento, entraron en una tienda, comieron y bebieron, tomaron de allí plata, oro y vestidos, y fueron a esconderlos. Después volvieron, entraron en otra tienda, y de allí también tomaron cosas que fueron a esconder.

And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank and took silver and gold and raiment and went and hid it and came again and entered into another tent and took from there also and went and hid it.

9 L uego se dijeron unos a otros: —No estamos haciendo bien. Hoy es día de buenas noticias y nosotros callamos. Si esperamos hasta el amanecer, nos alcanzará nuestra maldad. Vamos pues, ahora, entremos y demos la noticia en la casa del rey.

Then they said one to another, We do not well; this day is a day to give good tidings, and we are silent; if we tarry until the morning light, we shall be taken in the iniquity. Now, therefore, come, that we may enter in and give the news in the king’s house.

10 F ueron, pues, llamaron a los guardias de la puerta de la ciudad, y les gritaron diciendo: «Nosotros fuimos al campamento de los sirios y no había allí nadie, ni se oía ninguna voz humana; sólo estaban los caballos atados, los asnos también atados y el campamento intacto.»

So they came and called unto the porter of the city, and they told them, saying, We went to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11 L os porteros gritaron y lo anunciaron dentro, en el palacio del rey.

And the porters cried out and told it inside and in the king’s house.

12 S e levantó el rey de noche y dijo a sus siervos: —Os voy a decir lo que nos han hecho los sirios. Ellos saben que tenemos hambre, han salido de las tiendas y se han escondido en el campo, pensando: “Cuando hayan salido de la ciudad, los tomaremos vivos y entraremos en ella.”

¶ And the king arose in the night and said unto his slaves, I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore, they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive and get into the city.

13 E ntonces uno de sus siervos propuso: —Tomen ahora cinco de los caballos que han quedado en la ciudad (porque los que quedan acá también perecerán, como toda la multitud de Israel que ya ha perecido). Los enviaremos para ver qué pasa.

Then one of his slaves answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city (for they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it; they are also as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed) and let us send and see.

14 T omaron, pues, dos caballos de un carro y los envió el rey al campamento de los sirios, diciendo: «Id y ved.»

They took, therefore, two chariot horses; and the king sent after the camp of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 E llos los siguieron hasta el Jordán y vieron que todo el camino estaba lleno de vestidos y enseres que los sirios habían arrojado por la premura. Regresaron los mensajeros y lo hicieron saber al rey.

And they went after them unto the Jordan; and, behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16 E ntonces el pueblo salió y saqueó el campamento de los sirios. Y, conforme a la palabra de Jehová, fue vendido un seah de flor de harina por un siclo, y dos seahs de cebada por un siclo.

Then the people went out and spoiled the camp of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 E l rey había puesto a la puerta a aquel príncipe sobre cuyo brazo él se apoyaba, pero el pueblo lo atropelló a la entrada, y murió, conforme a lo que había dicho el varón de Dios cuando el rey descendió a él.

And the king appointed the prince on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate; and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

18 A conteció, pues, de la manera que el varón de Dios había anunciado al rey, al decir: «Serán vendidos por un siclo dos seahs de cebada, y el seah de flor de harina será vendido por un siclo mañana a estas horas, a la puerta de Samaria.»

And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria.

19 A lo cual aquel príncipe había respondido al varón de Dios: «Si Jehová abriera ventanas en el cielo, ¿pudiera suceder esto?» Y él le había dicho: «Tú lo verás con tus ojos, pero no comerás de ello.»

Unto which that prince had answered the man of God, and said, Even if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat of it.

20 Y así le sucedió, porque el pueblo lo atropelló a la entrada, y murió.

And so it happened unto him, for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
