1 N o reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtale como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos;

¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

2 a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jovencitas, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.

the elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.

3 H onra a las viudas que en verdad lo son.

¶ Honour widows that are widows indeed.

4 P ero si alguna viuda tiene hijos, o nietos, aprendan éstos primero a ser piadosos para con su propia familia, y a recompensar a sus padres; porque esto es lo bueno y agradable delante de Dios.

But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

5 M as la que en verdad es viuda y ha quedado sola, ha puesto su esperanza en Dios, y persevera en súplicas y oraciones noche y día.

Now she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day,

6 P ero la que se entrega a los placeres, viviendo está muerta.

but she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

7 M anda también estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles;

Therefore command these things, that they may be blameless.

8 p orque si alguno no provee para los suyos, y especialmente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe, y es peor que un incrédulo.

But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

9 S ea puesta en la lista sólo la viuda no menor de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido,

Let a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

10 q ue tenga testimonio de buenas obras; si ha criado hijos; si ha practicado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido a los afligidos; si ha estado dedicada a toda buena obra.

having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

11 P ero no admitas viudas más jóvenes; porque cuando, impulsadas por sus deseos, se rebelan contra Cristo, quieren casarse,

But the younger widows refuse, for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

12 i ncurriendo así en condenación, por haber dejado a un lado su promesa anterior.

having condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

13 Y al mismo tiempo aprenden a ser ociosas, andando de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también chismosas y entremetidas, hablando lo que no deben.

And reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

14 Q uiero, pues, que las viudas jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, gobiernen su casa; que no den al adversario ningún pretexto para hablar mal.

I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

15 P orque ya algunas se han apartado en pos de Satanás.

For some are already turned back after Satan.

16 S i algún creyente o alguna creyente tiene viudas, que las mantenga, y no sea gravada la iglesia, a fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que en verdad son viudas.

If any faithful man or woman has widows, let them maintain them and let not the congregation be charged, that it may relieve those that are widows indeed.

17 L os ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doble honor, principalmente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.

¶ Let the elders that govern well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.

18 P ues la Escritura dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla; y: Digno es el obrero de su salario.

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

19 C ontra un anciano no admitas acusación a no ser sobre la base de dos o tres testigos.

Against an elder do not receive an accusation, unless there are two or three witnesses.

20 A los que persisten en pecar, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los demás tengan temor.

Those that persist in sin rebuke before all, that the others may also fear.

21 T e conjuro delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicios, no haciendo nada con parcialidad.

I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

22 N o impongas con ligereza las manos a ninguno, ni participes en pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.

Lay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

23 Y a no bebas agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

24 L os pecados de algunos hombres se hacen patentes antes que ellos vengan a juicio, mas a otros se les descubren después.

Some men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after.

25 A simismo se hacen manifiestas las buenas obras; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden permanecer ocultas.

Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
