1 E ntonces toda la congregación gritó, y dio voces; y el pueblo lloró aquella noche.

¶ Then all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night.

2 Y se quejaron contra Moisés y contra Aarón todos los hijos de Israel; y les dijo toda la multitud: ¡Ojalá muriéramos en la tierra de Egipto; o en este desierto ojalá muriéramos!

And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

3 ¿ Y por qué nos trae Jehová a esta tierra para caer a espada, y que nuestras mujeres y nuestros niños sean por presa? ¿No nos sería mejor volvernos a Egipto?

And why has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return into Egypt?

4 Y decían el uno al otro: Designemos un capitán, y volvámonos a Egipto.

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

5 E ntonces Moisés y Aarón se postraron sobre sus rostros delante de toda la multitud de la congregación de los hijos de Israel.

¶ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.

6 Y Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefuné, que eran de los que habían reconocido la tierra, rompieron sus vestidos,

And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were of those that had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

7 y hablaron a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, diciendo: La tierra por donde pasamos para reconocerla, es tierra en gran manera buena.

and they spoke unto all the company of the sons of Israel, saying, The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceeding good land.

8 S i Jehová se agrada de nosotros, él nos conducirá a esta tierra, y nos la entregará; tierra que fluye leche y miel.

If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey.

9 P or tanto, no seáis rebeldes contra Jehová, ni temáis al pueblo de esta tierra; porque nosotros los comeremos como pan; su amparo se ha apartado de ellos, y con nosotros está Jehová; no los temáis.

Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.

10 E ntonces toda la multitud habló de apedrearlos. Pero la gloria de Jehová se mostró en el tabernáculo de reunión a todos los hijos de Israel,

Then all the multitude spoke of stoning them with stones. But the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the testimony before all the sons of Israel.

11 y Jehová dijo a Moisés: ¿Hasta cuándo me ha de irritar este pueblo? ¿Hasta cuándo no me creerán, con todas las señales que he hecho en medio de ellos?

¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? How long will it be before they believe me, with all the signs which I have done among them?

12 Y o los heriré de mortandad y los destruiré, y a ti te pondré sobre gente más grande y más fuerte que ellos.

I will smite them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

13 P ero Moisés respondió a Jehová: Lo oirán luego los egipcios, porque de en medio de ellos sacaste a este pueblo con tu poder;

And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, for thou didst bring this people out of the midst of them with thy might;

14 y lo dirán a los habitantes de esta tierra, los cuales han oído que tú, oh Jehová, estabas en medio de este pueblo, que cara a cara aparecías tú, oh Jehová, y que tu nube estaba sobre ellos, y que de día ibas delante de ellos en columna de nube, y de noche en columna de fuego;

and the inhabitants of this land will say, for they have already heard that thou, oh LORD, wast among this people, that thou, O LORD, art seen face to face, and that thy cloud was over them, and that thou didst go before them by day time in a pillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night;

15 y que has hecho morir a este pueblo como a un solo hombre; y las gentes que hayan oído tu fama hablarán, diciendo:

and that thou hast caused all this people to die as one man; and the Gentiles who have heard of thy fame will speak, saying,

16 P or cuanto no pudo Jehová meter este pueblo en la tierra de la cual les había jurado, los mató en el desierto.

Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them; therefore, he has slain them in the wilderness.

17 A hora, pues, yo te ruego que sea magnificado el poder del Señor, como lo hablaste, diciendo:

And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 J ehová, tardo para la ira y grande en misericordia, que perdona la iniquidad y la rebelión, aunque de ningún modo tendrá por inocente al culpable; que visita la maldad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta los terceros y hasta los cuartos.

The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, letting go of iniquity and transgression and absolving, but by no means absolving the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generations.

19 P erdona ahora la iniquidad de este pueblo según la grandeza de tu misericordia, y como has perdonado a este pueblo desde Egipto hasta aquí. Jehová castiga a Israel

Pardon now the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy and as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even until now.

20 E ntonces Jehová dijo: Yo lo he perdonado conforme a tu dicho.

¶ Then the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word.

21 M as tan ciertamente como vivo yo, y mi gloria llena toda la tierra,

But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 t odos los que vieron mi gloria y mis señales que he hecho en Egipto y en el desierto, y me han tentado ya diez veces, y no han oído mi voz,

Because all those men who saw my glory and my signs which I have done in Egypt and in the wilderness and have tempted me now these ten times and have not hearkened to my voice,

23 n o verán la tierra de la cual juré a sus padres; no, ninguno de los que me han irritado la verá.

surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of those that provoked me see it.

24 P ero a mi siervo Caleb, por cuanto hubo en él otro espíritu, y decidió ir en pos de mí, yo le meteré en la tierra donde entró, y su descendencia la tendrá en posesión.

But my slave Caleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he proved to follow after me, I will bring him into the land that he entered into, and his seed shall receive it by inheritance,

25 A hora bien, el amalecita y el cananeo habitan en el valle; volveos mañana y salid al desierto, camino del Mar Rojo.

and even the Amalekite and the Canaanite who dwell in the valley. Turn around tomorrow and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26 Y Jehová habló a Moisés y a Aarón, diciendo:

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27 ¿ Hasta cuándo oiré esta depravada multitud que murmura contra mí, las querellas de los hijos de Israel, que de mí se quejan?

How long shall I hear this evil congregation, which murmurs against me, the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me?

28 D iles: Vivo yo, dice Jehová, que según habéis hablado a mis oídos, así haré yo con vosotros.

Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, according as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you.

29 E n este desierto caerán vuestros cuerpos; todo el número de los que fueron contados de entre vosotros, de veinte años arriba, los cuales han murmurado contra mí.

Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me;

30 V osotros a la verdad no entraréis en la tierra, por la cual alcé mi mano y juré que os haría habitar en ella; exceptuando a Caleb hijo de Jefuné, y a Josué hijo de Nun.

doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 P ero a vuestros niños, de los cuales dijisteis que serían por presa, yo los introduciré, y ellos conocerán la tierra que vosotros despreciasteis.

But your little ones, whom ye said should be a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

32 E n cuanto a vosotros, vuestros cuerpos caerán en este desierto.

But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness.

33 Y vuestros hijos andarán pastoreando en el desierto cuarenta años, y ellos llevarán vuestras rebeldías, hasta que vuestros cuerpos sean consumidos en el desierto.

And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness.

34 C onforme al número de los días, de los cuarenta días en que reconocisteis la tierra, llevaréis vuestras iniquidades cuarenta años, un año por cada día; y conoceréis mi castigo.

After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, each day for a year, ye shall bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know my reason for annulling my promise.

35 Y o Jehová he hablado; así haré a toda esta multitud perversa que se ha juntado contra mí; en este desierto serán consumidos, y ahí morirán. Castigo de los diez desconfiados

I, the LORD, have spoken, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 Y los varones que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra, y que al volver habían hecho murmurar contra él a toda la congregación, desacreditando aquel país,

¶ And the men, whom Moses had sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up a slander upon the land,

37 a quellos varones que habían hablado mal de la tierra, murieron de plaga delante de Jehová.

even those men that brought an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

38 P ero Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefuné quedaron con vida, de entre aquellos hombres, que habían ido a reconocer la tierra. Vana tentativa en Hormá

But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of the men that went to spy out the land.

39 Y Moisés dijo estas cosas a todos los hijos de Israel, y el pueblo se enlutó mucho.

And Moses told these things unto all the sons of Israel, and the people mourned greatly.

40 Y se levantaron por la mañana y subieron a la cumbre del monte, diciendo: Henos aquí para subir al lugar del cual ha hablado Jehová; porque hemos pecado.

And they rose up early in the morning and climbed up into the top of the mountain, saying, Here we are prepared to go up unto the place of which the LORD has spoken; for we have sinned.

41 Y dijo Moisés: ¿Por qué quebrantáis el mandamiento de Jehová? Esto tampoco os saldrá bien.

And Moses said, Why do ye break the commandment of the LORD? This also shall not prosper.

42 N o subáis, porque Jehová no está en medio de vosotros, no seáis heridos delante de vuestros enemigos.

Do not go up, for the LORD is not among you; do not be smitten before your enemies.

43 P orque el amalecita y el cananeo están allí delante de vosotros, y caeréis a espada; pues por cuanto os habéis negado a seguir a Jehová, por eso no estará Jehová con vosotros.

For the Amalekite and the Canaanite are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; because ye are turned away from following the LORD, therefore, the LORD will not be with you.

44 S in embargo, se obstinaron en subir a la cima del monte; pero el arca del pacto de Jehová, y Moisés, no se apartaron de en medio del campamento.

But they presumed to go up unto the hill top; nevertheless, the ark of the covenant of the LORD and Moses, did not depart out of the camp.

45 Y descendieron el amalecita y el cananeo que habitaban en aquel monte, y los hirieron y los derrotaron, persiguiéndolos hasta Hormá.

Then the Amalekite came down and the Canaanite who dwelt in that hill and smote them and defeated them, pursuing them unto Hormah.
