1 E ntonces respondió Job, y dijo:

¶ But Job answered and said,

2 O íd atentamente mis palabras, Y sea esto el consuelo que me deis.

Hear diligently my speech, and let this be instead of your consolations.

3 T ened paciencia, y hablaré; Y después que haya hablado, escarnecedme.

Suffer me that I may speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.

4 ¿ Acaso me quejo yo de algún hombre? ¿Y por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?

As for me, is my complaint to man? And if so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

5 M iradme, y espantaos, Y poned la mano sobre la boca.

Look upon me and be astonished and lay your hand upon your mouth.

6 A un yo mismo, cuando lo recuerdo, me horrorizo, Y el temblor estremece mi carne.

Even I myself, when I remember, I am afraid, and trembling takes hold on my flesh.

7 ¿ Por qué siguen con vida los impíos, Y hasta cuando envejecen, aún crecen en riquezas?

¶ Why do the wicked live and become old and even increase in riches?

8 S u descendencia se robustece en su presencia, Y sus renuevos están delante de sus ojos.

Their seed is with them, established in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.

9 S us casas están a salvo de temor, Y no viene azote de Dios sobre ellos.

Their houses are safe from fear; neither is the rod of God upon them.

10 S us toros engendran, y no fallan; Paren sus vacas, y no malogran su cría.

Their cows conceive, and do not abort; their cows calve and do not cast forth their young.

11 S alen sus pequeñuelos como manada, Y sus hijos andan saltando.

They send forth their little ones like a flock of sheep, and their children dance.

12 A l son del tamboril y de la cítara saltan, Y se regocijan al son de la flauta.

They jump at the sound of the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

13 P asan sus días en prosperidad, Y descienden en paz al Seol.

They spend their days in pleasure and in a moment go down to Sheol.

14 Y , sin embargo, le dicen a Dios: Apártate de nosotros, Porque no queremos conocer tus caminos.

Therefore, they say unto God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of thy ways.

15 ¿ Quién es el Todopoderoso, para que le sirvamos? ¿Y de qué nos aprovechará que oremos a él?

Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

16 H e aquí que su dicha no está en manos de ellos; Lejos esté de mí el consejo de los impíos.

Behold that their good is not in their hands; the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

17 ¿ Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los impíos, Y viene sobre ellos su quebranto, Y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores?

¶ How often is the lamp of the wicked put out and their destruction comes upon them, and God distributes sorrows upon them in his anger.

18 ¿ Serán acaso como la paja delante del viento, Y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino?

They shall be as stubble before the wind and as chaff taken up by the whirlwind.

19 ¿ Guardará Dios para los hijos de ellos su violencia? ¡Que le dé su pago a él, para que aprenda!

God shall lay up his violence for their sons; and he will reward him so that he shall know it.

20 ¡ Vean sus ojos su quebranto, Y beba de la ira del Todopoderoso!

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 P orque ¿qué le importará a él la suerte de su casa después de muerto, Cuando se haya acabado el número de sus meses?

For what delight shall he have in his house after him, being cut off in the number of his months?

22 ¿ Enseñará alguien a Dios sabiduría, Si él juzga a los más encumbrados?

Shall he teach God knowledge, seeing he judges those that are high?

23 H ay quien muere en su pleno vigor, En el colmo de la dicha y de la paz;

This one shall die in the full strength of his beauty, being completely at ease and quiet.

24 S us ijares están llenos de grasa, Y sus huesos bien regados de tuétano.

His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

25 E n cambio, otro morirá en amargura de ánimo, Y sin haber comido jamás con gusto.

And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, never having eaten with pleasure.

26 P ero igualmente yacerán ambos en el polvo, Y gusanos los cubrirán.

They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

27 H e aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos, Y las maquinaciones que contra mí forjáis.

¶ Behold, I know your thoughts and the imaginations which ye devise against me.

28 P orque decís: ¿Qué queda de la casa del poderoso, Y qué de las tiendas en que moraban los impíos?

For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked?

29 ¿ No habéis preguntado a los que pasan por los caminos, Y no habéis conocido su respuesta,

Have ye not asked those that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens?

30 Q ue el malo es preservado en el día de la destrucción? Guardado será en el día de la ira.

That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

31 ¿ Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino? Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?

Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done?

32 P orque llevado será al cementerio, Y sobre su mausoleo estarán velando.

He shall yet be brought to the grave and shall remain in the tomb.

33 L os terrones del valle le cubrirán suavemente; Tras él marchará un enorme gentío, Y delante de él una multitud innumerable.

The clods of the river valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall be drawn after him, as there were innumerable before him.

34 ¿ Cómo, pues, me consoláis en vano, Viniendo a parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?

How then do ye comfort me in vain, given that your answers remain as falsehood?
