1 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, propón un enigma, y compón una parábola a la casa de Israel.

Son of man, propose a figure and compose an enigma unto the house of Israel

3 Y dirás: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Una gran águila, de grandes alas y de largas plumas remeras, llena de plumaje de diversos colores, vino al Líbano y tomó el cogollo del cedro.

and say: Thus hath the Lord GOD said, A great eagle with great wings and long members, full of feathers of diverse colours, came unto Lebanon and took the highest branch of the cedar:

4 A rrancó la punta más alta de sus renuevos y la llevó a tierra de mercaderes, y la puso en una ciudad de comerciantes.

he cropped off the principal shoot and carried it into a land of markets; he set it in the city of the merchants.

5 T omó también de la simiente de la tierra, y la sembró en un suelo fértil, la puso junto a aguas abundantes, la plantó como un sauce.

He also took of the seed of the land and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters and set it as a willow tree.

6 Y brotó, y se hizo una vid de mucho ramaje, de poca altura, y sus ramas miraban hacia el águila, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella; así que se hizo una vid, y echó sarmientos y extendió sus ramas.

And it grew and became a vine of many branches, low of stature, whose branches looked at him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine and brought forth branches and shot forth sprigs.

7 H abía también otra gran águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid dobló hacia ella sus raíces, y extendió hacia ella sus ramas, desde los surcos donde estaba plantada, para ser regada por ella.

There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers; and, behold, this vine joined her roots toward him and extended her branches toward him that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

8 H abía sido plantada en un buen campo, junto a muchas aguas, para que echase ramas y diese fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta.

It was planted in a good soil by many waters that it might bring forth branches and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

9 D iles: Así dice el Señor Jehová: ¿Prosperará? ¿No arrancará sus raíces el águila primera, y destruirá su fruto, y se secará? Sí, todas sus hojas lozanas se secarán. Y no hará falta gran poder ni mucha gente para arrancarla de sus raíces.

Say thou: Thus hath the Lord GOD said, Shall it be prospered? Shall he not pull it up its roots and destroy its fruit and let it wither? All of the leaves of her spring shall wither, even without great power or many people plucking it up by its roots.

10 Y he aquí que está plantada; ¿será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la toque? En los surcos donde creció se secará.

Yea, behold, being planted, shall it be prospered? Shall it not utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

11 Y vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

12 D i ahora a la casa rebelde: ¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas? Diles: He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, y tomó a tu rey y a sus príncipes, y los llevó consigo a Babilonia.

Say now to the rebellious house: Do ye not know what these things mean? Tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem and has taken its king and its princes and led them with him to Babylon;

13 T omó también a uno de la descendencia real e hizo pacto con él, y le hizo prestar juramento; y se llevó consigo a los poderosos de la tierra,

and has taken of the seed of the kingdom and made a covenant with him and has brought him to an oath: he has also taken the mighty of the land:

14 p ara que el reino quedase en baja condición y no se levantase, sino que sólo guardando el pacto pudiese permanecer en pie.

that the kingdom might be cast down, that it might not lift itself up, but that it might keep his covenant and stay in her.

15 P ero se rebeló contra él, enviando embajadores a Egipto para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará el que estas cosas hizo? El que rompió el pacto, ¿podrá escapar?

But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors unto Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he be prospered, shall he that does such things escape? And shall he who broke the covenant be able to flee?

16 V ivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que en el lugar donde habita el rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció, y cuyo pacto hecho con él rompió, en medio de Babilonia morirá.

As I live, said the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwells that made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon, he shall die.

17 Y ni con su poderoso ejército ni con mucha compañía le socorrerá Faraón en la batalla, cuando se levanten vallados y se edifiquen torres para cortar muchas vidas.

And not with a mighty army, nor with a great company shall Pharaoh do anything for him in the battle when they cast up mounts, and build forts to cut off many lives:

18 P or cuanto menospreció el juramento y quebrantó el pacto, cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, y ha hecho todas estas cosas, no escapará.

seeing he despised the oath to invalidate the covenant when, behold, he had given his hand and has done all these things, he shall not escape.

19 P or tanto, así dice el Señor Jehová: Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi pacto que ha quebrantado, lo haré recaer sobre su misma cabeza.

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised and my covenant that he has broken, even it will I turn upon his own head.

20 E xtenderé sobre él mi red, y será preso en mi lazo, y le haré venir a Babilonia, y allí entraré en juicio con él por la infidelidad que ha cometido contra mí.

And I will spread my net upon him and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass with which he has rebelled against me.

21 Y todos sus hombres escogidos, con lo mejor de sus tropas, caerán a espada, y los que queden serán esparcidos a todos los vientos; y sabréis que yo Jehová he hablado.

And all his fugitives with all his armies shall fall by the sword, and those that remain shall be scattered toward all winds; and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.

22 A sí dice el Señor Jehová: Tomaré yo, sí, yo, del cogollo de aquel alto cedro, y lo plantaré; de la punta de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo tierno, y lo plantaré yo mismo sobre un monte alto y excelso;

¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: I will also take of the highest branch of that high cedar and will set it up; I will crop off from the principal branch a shoot and will plant it upon the high and sublime mountain:

23 e n el monte de lo alto de Israel lo plantaré, y echará ramas, y dará fruto, y se hará un cedro magnífico; y habitarán debajo de él todas las aves de toda especie; a la sombra de sus ramas habitarán.

in the high mountain of Israel I will plant it, and it shall bring forth boughs and bear fruit and become a magnificent cedar; and under it shall dwell every fowl; everything that flies shall dwell in the shadow of its branches.

24 Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo Jehová abatí el árbol elevado, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde, e hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo Jehová lo he hablado y lo he cumplido.

And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I the LORD have spoken and have done it.
