1 P alabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué, el de Massá; la profecía que dijo el varón a Itiel, a Itiel y a Ucal.

¶ The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spoke unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

2 C iertamente más rudo soy yo que ninguno, Ni tengo entendimiento de hombre.

Surely I am more carnal than any man and have not the understanding of a man.

3 Y o ni aprendí sabiduría, Ni conozco la ciencia del Santo.

I neither learned wisdom nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4 ¿ Quién subió al cielo, y descendió? ¿Quién encerró los vientos en sus puños? ¿Quién ató las aguas en un paño? ¿Quién afirmó todos los términos de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su nombre, y el nombre de su hijo, si lo sabes?

Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

5 T oda palabra de Dios es limpia; Él es escudo a los que en él esperan.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.

6 N o añadas nada a sus palabras, para que no te reprenda, Y seas hallado mentiroso.

Do not add unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7 D os cosas te pido; No me las niegues antes que muera:

¶ Two things have I required of thee; do not deny me them before I die:

8 A parta de mí falsedad y mentira; No me des pobreza ni riquezas; Concédeme mi diaria ración de pan;

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my judgment:

9 N o sea que me sacie, y te niegue, y diga: ¿Quién es Jehová? O que siendo pobre, hurte, Y profane el nombre de mi Dios.

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

10 N o calumnies al siervo ante su señor, No sea que te maldiga, y sufras el castigo.

¶ Do not accuse a slave in the presence of his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

11 H ay gente que maldice a su padre Y a su madre no bendice.

There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

12 H ay gente pura en su propia opinión, Si bien no se ha limpiado de su inmundicia.

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

13 H ay gente cuyos ojos son altivos Y cuyos párpados están levantados en alto.

There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

14 H ay gente cuyos dientes son espadas, y sus muelas cuchillos, Para devorar a los pobres de la tierra, y a los menesterosos de entre los hombres.

There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their molars as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the destitute from among men.

15 L a sanguijuela tiene dos hijas que dicen: ¡Dame!, ¡dame! Tres cosas hay que nunca se sacian; Y una cuarta que nunca dice: ¡Basta!

¶ The horseleach has two daughters, which are called, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16 E l Seol, la matriz estéril, La tierra que no se sacia de aguas, Y el fuego que jamás dice: ¡Basta!

Sheol; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that never says, It is enough.

17 E l ojo que escarnece a su padre Y menosprecia la enseñanza de la madre, Los cuervos de la cañada lo saquen, Y lo devoren los hijos del águila.

The eye that mocks at his father, and despises the teaching of his mother, the ravens shall pluck it out of the river, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18 T res cosas me son ocultas; Y una cuarta que no comprendo:

¶ There are three things which are hidden from me, yea, four which I know not:

19 E l rastro del águila en el aire; El rastro de la culebra sobre la peña; El rastro de la nave en medio del mar; Y el rastro del hombre en la doncella.

The track of the eagle in the air; the track of the serpent upon the rock; the track of the ship in the midst of the sea; and the track of the man in the maid.

20 E l proceder de la mujer adúltera es así: Come, y limpia su boca Y dice: No he hecho nada malo.

Such is the track of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

21 P or tres cosas tiembla la tierra, Y la cuarta no la puede soportar:

For three things the earth is disquieted, and the fourth it cannot bear:

22 P or el siervo cuando reina; Por el necio cuando se sacia de pan;

For a slave when he reigns; and a fool when he is filled with bread;

23 P or la mujer desdeñada cuando se casa; Y por la sierva cuando suplanta a su señora.

for a rejected woman when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

24 C uatro cosas son de las más pequeñas de la tierra, Pero son más sabias que los sabios:

¶ There are four things which are little upon the earth, but they are wiser than the wise men:

25 L as hormigas, multitud sin fuerza, Y en el verano preparan su comida;

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

26 L os damanes, multitud sin poder, Y ponen su casa en la piedra;

the conies are but a feeble folk, yet they make their houses in the rocks;

27 L as langostas, que no tienen rey, Y salen todas por escuadrones;

the locusts have no king, yet all of them go forth by bands;

28 L a araña que se coge con sus patas, Y está en palacios de rey.

the spider takes hold with her hands and is in kings’ palaces.

29 T res cosas hay de hermoso andar, Y la cuarta pasea muy bien:

¶ There are three things which have a magnificent walk; yea, the fourth is stately in going:

30 E l león, fuerte entre todos los animales, Que no retrocede ante nada;

The lion which is strongest among beasts and does not turn away for any;

31 E l brioso caballo; asimismo el macho cabrío; Y el rey, al frente de su ejército.

the greyhound who is girded up of loins; a he goat also, and the king, against whom no one rises up.

32 S i neciamente has procurado enaltecerte, O si has pensado hacer mal, Pon el dedo sobre tu boca.

If thou hast fallen, it is because thou hast lifted thyself up; and if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

33 C iertamente el que bate la leche sacará mantequilla; El que se suena fuerte las narices sacará sangre; Y el que provoca la ira causará contienda.

Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.
