1 С лова Агура, сына Иаке. Изречение. Этот человек сказал Итиэлу, Итиэлу и Ухалу:

¶ The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spoke unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

2 « Я самый невежественный из людей; я разума человеческого не имею.

Surely I am more carnal than any man and have not the understanding of a man.

3 М удрости я не учился; нет у меня познания Святого.

I neither learned wisdom nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4 К то восходил на небо и нисходил? Кто ветер собрал в ладони? Кто воду в свой плащ завернул? Кто утвердил пределы земли? Как зовут его? Как зовут его сына? Скажи мне, если знаешь!

Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

5 В сякое Божье слово чисто; щит Он всем ищущим в Нем прибежища.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.

6 К словам Его не прибавляй, иначе Он упрекнет тебя и окажешься ты лгуном.

Do not add unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7 Д вух вещей я прошу у Тебя, Боже, не откажи мне, прежде чем я умру:

¶ Two things have I required of thee; do not deny me them before I die:

8 у дали от меня суету и ложь, не давай мне ни бедности, ни богатства; но хлебом насущным меня питай,

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my judgment:

9 ч тобы мне не пресытиться и не отринуть Тебя, сказав: “А кто такой Господь?”; чтобы не обеднеть мне и красть не начать, бесчестя тем Имя моего Бога.

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

10 Н е клевещи на слугу перед хозяином его, чтобы его проклятие не пало на тебя, и ты не пострадал.

¶ Do not accuse a slave in the presence of his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

11 Е сть такие, что проклинают своих отцов и не благословляют матерей.

There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

12 Е сть такие, что в глазах своих чисты, хотя от грязи своей не отмыты.

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

13 Е сть такие – о, как надменны глаза их, как взгляды презрительны!

There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

14 Е сть такие, чьи зубы, словно мечи, чьи клыки, как ножи, чтоб пожирать бедняков с земли и нищих среди смертных.

There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their molars as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the destitute from among men.

15 У пиявки две дочери. “Дай! – кричат они. – Дай!” Вот три вещи, что ненасытны, даже четыре, что никогда не скажут: “Довольно!” –

¶ The horseleach has two daughters, which are called, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16 М ир мертвых, бесплодное чрево, земля, что вечно жаждет воды, и огонь, что “довольно!” не скажет.

Sheol; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that never says, It is enough.

17 Г лаз, глумящийся над отцом и презирающий послушание матери, выдолбят вороны из долины, стервятники расклюют.

The eye that mocks at his father, and despises the teaching of his mother, the ravens shall pluck it out of the river, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18 В от три вещи, необъяснимые для меня, даже четыре, которых не понимаю:

¶ There are three things which are hidden from me, yea, four which I know not:

19 п уть орла в небесах, путь змеи на скале, путь корабля среди моря и путь мужчины к девушке.

The track of the eagle in the air; the track of the serpent upon the rock; the track of the ship in the midst of the sea; and the track of the man in the maid.

20 Т аков путь неверной жены: поела, вытерла рот и говорит: “Я ничего дурного не сделала”.

Such is the track of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

21 П од тремя вещами дрожит земля, не в силах вынести четырех:

For three things the earth is disquieted, and the fourth it cannot bear:

22 р аба, когда он делается царем; глупца, насытившегося пищей;

For a slave when he reigns; and a fool when he is filled with bread;

23 н енавистную женщину, выходящую замуж; и служанку, занявшую место хозяйки.

for a rejected woman when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

24 Ч етверо малы на земле, но мудрее мудрецов:

¶ There are four things which are little upon the earth, but they are wiser than the wise men:

25 м уравьи – народец не сильный, а делают летом запасы;

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

26 д аманы – народец не крепкий, а жилища делают в скалах;

the conies are but a feeble folk, yet they make their houses in the rocks;

27 н ет у саранчи царя, но вся выступает строем;

the locusts have no king, yet all of them go forth by bands;

28 я щерку можно схватить рукой, а она бывает даже в царских дворцах.

the spider takes hold with her hands and is in kings’ palaces.

29 В от трое, чей шаг величав, даже четверо, чья величава поступь:

¶ There are three things which have a magnificent walk; yea, the fourth is stately in going:

30 л ев, могучий среди зверей, что ни перед кем с пути не свернет;

The lion which is strongest among beasts and does not turn away for any;

31 п етух, что вышагивает; козел, и царь во главе своего народа.

the greyhound who is girded up of loins; a he goat also, and the king, against whom no one rises up.

32 Е сли ты был так глуп, что занесся, или если задумывал зло, – рукою уста закрой!

If thou hast fallen, it is because thou hast lifted thyself up; and if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

33 В едь если взбивать молоко, получится масло, если ударить по носу, кровь польется, а если гнев разжечь, вспыхнет вражда».

Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.
