1 И аков жил в той земле, где странником жил его отец, в земле Ханаана.

¶ And Jacob dwelt in the land in which his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

2 В от повествование об Иакове. Иосиф, которому было семнадцать лет, пас стада овец вместе со своими братьями – сыновьями Валлы и Зелфы, жен отца Иосифа. Иосиф рассказывал отцу плохое о братьях.

These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives; and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.

3 И зраиль же любил Иосифа больше всех других сыновей, потому что он был рожден ему в старости, и он сделал для него богато украшенную одежду.

Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a coat of many colours.

4 К огда братья увидели, что отец любит его больше, чем всех остальных, они возненавидели его и не могли с ним мирно разговаривать.

And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him.

5 О днажды Иосифу приснился сон. Он рассказал о нем братьям, и они возненавидели его еще больше.

¶ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren; and they hated him yet the more.

6 В от что он сказал им: – Послушайте, какой мне приснился сон.

And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

7 М ы вязали снопы в поле, и вдруг мой сноп поднялся и распрямился, а ваши снопы встали вокруг него и поклонились.

For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf.

8 Б ратья сказали ему: – Неужели ты будешь царствовать над нами? Неужели мы будем у тебя в подчинении? И они возненавидели его еще больше за его сон и за этот рассказ.

And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.

9 Е му приснился еще один сон, и он опять рассказал о нем братьям: – Послушайте, мне приснился еще один сон: на этот раз мне поклонялись солнце, луна и одиннадцать звезд.

And he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brethren, saying, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.

10 О н рассказал сон не только братьям, но и отцу, и отец упрекнул его: – Что это за сон тебе приснился? Неужто я, твоя мать и твои братья действительно придем и поклонимся тебе до земли?

And he told it to his father and to his brethren; and his father reprehended him and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

11 Б ратья завидовали ему, но отец запомнил этот случай. Братья продают Иосифа

And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the word.

12 Б ратья ушли пасти отцовские отары в окрестности Шехема,

¶ And his brethren went to feed their father’s sheep in Shechem.

13 и Израиль сказал Иосифу: – Ты знаешь, что твои братья пасут отары близ Шехема; я хочу послать тебя к ним. – Я готов, – ответил Иосиф.

And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the sheep in Shechem? Come and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.

14 О тец сказал ему: – Иди посмотри, все ли благополучно с твоими братьями и с отарами, и принеси мне ответ. Он дал ему этот наказ в долине Хеврона, и Иосиф отправился в Шехем.

And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it is well with thy brethren and well with the sheep and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

15 Т ам он блуждал в полях, пока не повстречал его прохожий и не спросил его: – Что ты ищешь?

And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field; and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

16 О н ответил: – Я ищу моих братьев. Прошу тебя, скажи мне, где они пасут свои отары?

And he said, I seek my brethren; tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.

17 – Они ушли отсюда, – ответил прохожий. – Я слышал, как они говорили: «Пойдем в Дотан». Иосиф пошел следом за братьями и нашел их у Дотана.

And the man said, They are departed from here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren and found them in Dothan.

18 О ни увидели его издалека и, прежде чем он подошел к ним, сговорились его убить.

And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.

19 – Вон идет этот сновидец! – сказали они друг другу.

And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes;

20 – Давайте убьем его и бросим в пересохший колодец, а отцу скажем, что его сожрал дикий зверь. Тогда посмотрим, что выйдет из его снов.

now therefore, come and let us slay him and cast him into a cistern, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

21 Н о Рувим услышал и спас его от них, сказав: – Нет, не будем лишать его жизни.

When Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands and said, Let us not kill him.

22 О н добавил: – Не проливайте крови. Бросьте его в этот колодец здесь, в пустыне, но не поднимайте на него руки. Рувим хотел спасти его от них и вернуть отцу.

And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood but cast him into this cistern that is in the wilderness and lay no hand upon him that he might rid him out of their hands to deliver him to his father again.

23 К огда Иосиф подошел к братьям, они сорвали с него одежду – ту самую богато украшенную одежду, что была на нем –

¶ And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;

24 и бросили его в колодец. Колодец был пустой, без воды.

and they took him and cast him into the cistern; and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.

25 О ни сели за еду, и тут увидели караван измаильтян, идущий из Галаада. Их верблюды были нагружены специями, бальзамом и миррой, которые они везли в Египет.

And they sat down to eat bread; and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing aromas and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

26 И уда сказал братьям: – Какая нам польза, если мы убьем нашего брата и утаим это?

Then Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?

27 Л учше продадим его измаильтянам и не станем поднимать на него руки; ведь он наш брат, наша плоть и кровь. Братья согласились с ним.

Come and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

28 К огда мадианские купцы проходили мимо, братья вытащили Иосифа из колодца и продали измаильтянам за двадцать шекелей серебра. Измаильтяне взяли его в Египет.

And when the Midianite merchantmen passed by, they took and lifted up Joseph out of the cistern and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

29 В ернувшись к колодцу, Рувим увидел, что Иосифа там нет, и разорвал на себе одежду.

And Reuben returned unto the cistern; and, behold, Joseph was not inside, and he rent his clothes.

30 О н вернулся к братьям и сказал: – Мальчика там нет! Куда мне теперь деваться?

And he returned unto his brethren and said, The young man is not; and I, where shall I go?

31 Т огда они взяли одежду Иосифа, закололи козла и вымазали одежду в крови.

¶ Then they took Joseph’s coat and killed a kid of the goats and dipped the coat in the blood;

32 З атем они отнесли богато украшенную одежду отцу и сказали: – Вот что мы нашли. Посмотри, не одежда ли это твоего сына?

and they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father and said, We have found this, recognize now whether it is thy son’s coat or not.

33 О н узнал ее и воскликнул: – Это одежда моего сына! Его сожрал дикий зверь! Конечно, Иосиф был растерзан на куски!

And he knew it and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.

34 И аков разорвал на себе одежду, оделся в рубище и много дней оплакивал сына.

Then Jacob rent his clothes and put sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days.

35 В се его сыновья и дочери пришли утешать его, но он отказывался от утешений, говоря: – Нет, я так, скорбя, и сойду в мир мертвых, к моему сыну. Так отец оплакивал своего сына.

And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

36 А мадианитяне тем временем продали Иосифа в Египте Потифару, сановнику фараона, который был у него начальником стражи.

And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s and captain of the guard.
