1 С пустя некоторое время, царь Ксеркс возвысил агагитянина Амана, сына Аммедаты, возвеличив его и дав ему почетное место выше, чем у всех прочих своих сановников.

¶ After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

2 В се царские чиновники у царских ворот преклоняли колени и воздавали Аману честь, потому что так постановил о нем царь. Но Мардохей не преклонял колен и не воздавал ему честь.

And all the king’s slaves that were in the king’s gate, knelt down and worshipped Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him.

3 Ц арские чиновники у царских ворот спрашивали Мардохея: – Почему ты нарушаешь царское повеление?

Then the king’s slaves, who were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why dost thou pass over the king’s commandment?

4 О ни говорили ему так изо дня в день, но он их не слушал. Тогда они донесли об этом Аману, чтобы посмотреть: станет ли он терпеть поведение Мардохея – ведь он рассказал им, что он иудей.

Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily unto him, and he did not hearken unto them, that they told Haman to see whether Mordecai’s word would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 У видев, что Мардохей не преклоняет колен и не воздает ему честь, Аман исполнился ярости.

And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him, then Haman was filled with wrath.

6 Н о, узнав из какого Мардохей народа, он не остановился на мысли убить лишь его одного. Вместо этого Аман стал искать способ погубить весь народ Мардохея – иудеев – по всему царству Ксеркса.

And he thought it a small matter to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for now they had declared unto him the people of Mordecai; therefore, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, the people of Mordecai.

7 В двенадцатом году правления царя Ксеркса, в первом месяце, месяце нисане, бросали перед Аманом «пур», что означает «жребий», чтобы выбрать день и месяц. И жребий пал на двенадцатый месяц, месяц адар.

¶ In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day and from month to month, and the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar was taken.

8 А ман сказал царю Ксерксу: – Есть некий народ, разбросанный и рассеянный между народами во всех провинциях твоего царства; их законы отличаются от законов прочих людей, а законов царя они не соблюдают. Нельзя царю терпеть их.

And Haman said unto King Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom, and their laws are different from all other people; neither do they observe the king’s laws: therefore, it is not profitable for the king to allow them to remain.

9 Е сли угодно царю, пусть выйдет указ, чтобы их погубить, а я отвешу десять тысяч талантов серебра в руки царских казначеев, чтобы они внесли его в царскую сокровищницу.

If it pleases the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the public works, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.

10 Ц арь снял с пальца свой перстень и отдал агагитянину Аману, сыну Аммедаты, врагу иудеев.

And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it unto Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

11 – И этот народ, и его серебро твои, – сказал царь Аману. – Делай с ними, что тебе угодно.

And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to thee.

12 В тринадцатый день первого месяца были призваны царские писари. Письменами каждой провинции и на языке каждого народа они записали все приказы Амана царским сатрапам, наместникам провинций и князьям различных народов. Они были написаны от имени самого царя Ксеркса и запечатаны его перстнем.

Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants and to the governors that were over each province and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof and to every people after their language; in the name of King Ahasuerus it was written and sealed with the king’s ring.

13 П исьма были разосланы через гонцов во все царские провинции с приказом погубить, уничтожить и искоренить всех иудеев – молодых и старых, женщин и маленьких детей – в один день, тринадцатый день двенадцатого месяца, месяца адара, и разграбить их имущество.

And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

14 К опию указа должны были дать как закон в каждой провинции и объявить во всеуслышание людям всякого народа, чтобы они были готовы к этому дню.

The copy of the writing was to be given as law in every province that it be published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

15 П о приказу царя гонцы поспешно отправились в путь, как только указ был оглашен в крепости Сузы. Царь и Аман сели пировать, а город Сузы был объят смятением.

The posts went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the law was given in Shushan, the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
