1 А хав рассказал Иезавели обо всем, что сделал Илия, и о том, как он перебил всех пророков Баала мечом.

¶ And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and of how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

2 И езавель послала к Илии вестника, чтобы сказать: – Пусть боги сурово накажут меня, если завтра к этому времени я не сделаю с тобой того же, что ты сделал с пророками.

Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if by tomorrow at this time I have not made thy person as one of them.

3 О н испугался и бежал, спасая свою жизнь. Добравшись до Вирсавии, что в Иудее, он оставил там слугу,

And when he saw that, he arose and departed to save his life and came to Beersheba, which is in Judah, and left his servant there.

4 а сам ушел в пустыню на расстояние в день пути. Он пришел, сел под одиноким дроковым кустом и молился о смерти. – Довольно уже, Господи, – говорил он, – забери мою жизнь, ведь я не лучше своих предков.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and desiring to die, he said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.

5 З атем он лег под дроковым кустом и уснул. Внезапно ангел коснулся его и сказал: – Встань и поешь.

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him and said unto him, Arise and eat.

6 О н огляделся – и вот, у его головы лепешка, испеченная на горячих углях, и кувшин воды. Он поел, попил и лег снова.

Then he looked and behold, there was a cake baked on the coals and a cruse of water at his head. And he ate and drank and went back to sleep.

7 А нгел Господень пришел во второй раз, коснулся его и сказал: – Встань и поешь, иначе дорога будет для тебя слишком тяжела.

And the angel of the LORD came again the second time and touched him and said, Arise and eat, for there is a great journey before thee.

8 О н встал, поел и попил. Подкрепившись той пищей, он шел сорок дней и сорок ночей, пока не достиг Хорива, Божьей горы.

And he arose and ate and drank and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto Horeb, the mount of God.

9 Т ам он вошел в пещеру и заночевал в ней. Господь является Илии И вот, к нему было слово Господа: – Что ты здесь делаешь, Илия?

¶ And there he went into a cave, where he lodged; and the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10 О н ответил: – Я ревностно служил Господу, Богу Сил. Израильтяне отвергли союз с Тобой, разрушили Твои жертвенники, а Твоих пророков убили мечом. Остался лишь я один, и они пытаются убить и меня.

And he replied, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of the hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left, and they seek me to take my life.

11 Г осподь сказал: – Выйди и встань на горе перед Господом. Господь пройдет мимо! И вот, страшный, могучий ветер расколол горы и раздробил перед Господом скалы, но в ветре Господа не было. После ветра было землетрясение, но в землетрясении Господа не было.

And he said, Go forth and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.

12 П осле землетрясения прошел огонь, но в огне Господа не было. После огня раздался мягкий шепот.

And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire, a still small voice,

13 У слышав его, Илия закрыл лицо плащом, вышел и встал у входа в пещеру. И был к нему голос, который сказал ему: – Что ты здесь делаешь, Илия?

Which when Elijah heard it, he covered his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the door of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, saying, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14 О н ответил: – Я ревностно служил Господу, Богу Сил. Израильтяне отвергли союз с Тобой, разрушили Твои жертвенники, а Твоих пророков убили мечом. Остался лишь я один, и они пытаются убить и меня.

And he replied, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of the hosts because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left, and they seek me to take my life.

15 Г осподь сказал ему: – Возвращайся дорогой, которой пришел, и иди в пустыню Дамаска. Придя туда, помажь Хазаила в цари над Арамом.

And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way by the wilderness of Damascus; and thou shalt arrive there and anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;

16 Е ще помажь Ииуя, сына Нимши, в цари Израиля, а Елисея, сына Шафата, из Авел-Мехолы, в пророки вместо себя.

and Jehu, the son of Nimshi, thou shalt anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha, the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah, thou shalt anoint to be prophet in thy place.

17 И иуй предаст смерти всякого, кто уйдет живым от меча Хазаила, а Елисей предаст смерти всякого, кто уйдет живым от меча Ииуя.

And it shall be that he that escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall slay; and he that escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall slay.

18 Н о Я сохранил в Израиле семь тысяч человек, колени которых не склонились перед Баалом и которые не целовали его статуи. Призвание Елисея на пророческое служение

And I will cause seven thousand to remain in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.

19 И лия ушел оттуда и нашел Елисея, сына Шафата. Он пахал на упряжи из двенадцати пар волов и сам шел за двенадцатой парой. Илия прошел мимо и набросил на него плащ.

¶ So he departed from there and found Elisha, the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed by him and cast his mantle upon him.

20 Т огда Елисей оставил волов и побежал за Илией. – Позволь мне поцеловать на прощание отца и мать, – сказал он. – После этого я пойду с тобой. – Иди, возвращайся. Ведь что я тебе сделал? – ответил Илия.

So he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again, for what have I done to thee?

21 Т огда Елисей вернулся, взял пару волов и зарезал их. Он сжег плуг, чтобы приготовить мясо, раздал его людям, и они ели. После этого он отправился в путь, чтобы следовать за Илией, и стал его слугой.

And he returned back from him and took a yoke of oxen and slew them and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen and gave unto the people and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and served him.
