1 S au các việc ấy, vua A-suê-ru thăng chức cho Ha-man, con trai của Ham-mê-đa-tha, người A-gát, và làm nổi danh người, đặt ngôi người trên các quan trưởng ở cung vua.

¶ After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

2 H ết thảy thần bộc ở tại nơi cửa vua đều cúi xuống lạy Ha-man; vì về phần người, vua đã truyền bảo như vậy. Nhưng Mạc-đô-chê không cúi xuống, cũng không lạy người.

And all the king’s slaves that were in the king’s gate, knelt down and worshipped Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him.

3 C ác thần bộc ở nơi cửa vua bèn nói với Mạc-đô-chê rằng: Cớ sao ông phạm mạng vua?

Then the king’s slaves, who were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why dost thou pass over the king’s commandment?

4 X ảy vì chúng nói với người ngày nầy qua ngày kia, mà người chẳng khứng nghe đến, thì chúng cáo cho Ha-man hay, đặng thử xem sự tình của Mạc-đô-chê có thắng chăng, vì người tỏ cho chúng rằng mình là người Giu-đa.

Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily unto him, and he did not hearken unto them, that they told Haman to see whether Mordecai’s word would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 K hi Ha-man thấy Mạc-đô-chê không cúi xuống và không lạy mình bèn nổi giận dữ.

And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him, then Haman was filled with wrath.

6 N gười ta đã học cho Ha-man biết Mạc-đô-chê là người Giu-đa, nên người cho sự tra tay trên một mình Mạc-đô-chê là một sự nhỏ mọn, người bèn tìm mưu giết hết thảy dân Giu-đa, là tông tộc của Mạc-đô-chê, ở trong toàn nước A-suê-ru.

And he thought it a small matter to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for now they had declared unto him the people of Mordecai; therefore, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, the people of Mordecai.

7 T háng Giêng là tháng Ni-san, năm thứ mười hai đời vua A-suê-ru, người ta bỏ Phu-rơ, tức là bỏ thăm, mỗi ngày mỗi tháng, tại trước mặt Ha-man, cho đến tháng mười hai, là tháng A-đa.

¶ In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day and from month to month, and the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar was taken.

8 H a-man tâu với vua A-suê-ru rằng: Có một dân tộc tản mản, tải rác ra giữa các dân tộc trong những tỉnh của nước vua: luật pháp của chúng nó khác hơn luật pháp của các dân khác; lại chúng nó cũng không tuân theo luật pháp của vua; dung chúng nó chẳng tiện cho vua.

And Haman said unto King Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom, and their laws are different from all other people; neither do they observe the king’s laws: therefore, it is not profitable for the king to allow them to remain.

9 N ếu điều đó vừa ý vua, khá giáng chiếu chỉ truyền tuyệt diệt chúng nó đi; rồi tôi sẽ cân mười ta lâng bạc phó vào tay những quan đốc tư để đem vào kho vua.

If it pleases the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the public works, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.

10 V ua bèn cỗi chiếc nhẫn khỏi tay mình, trao cho Ha-man, con trai Ham-mê-đa-tha, người A-gát, kẻ cừu địch dân Giu-đa.

And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it unto Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

11 V ua nói với Ha-man rằng: Bạc đã ban cho ngươi, dân sự cũng phó cho ngươi, để làm điều chi mặc ý ngươi.

And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to thee.

12 T háng giêng, ngày mười ba, thì đòi những thầy thơ ký của vua đến; rồi tùy theo mọi điều Ha-man truyền dặn, người ta nhơn danh A-suê-ru viết chiếu cho các quan trấn thủ của vua, cho các quan cai quản mỗi tỉnh, và cho các trưởng tộc của mỗi dân tộc, tỉnh nào dùng chữ nấy, dân tộc nào theo thổ âm nấy; đoạn họ lấy chiếc nhẫn của vua mà đóng ấn.

Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants and to the governors that were over each province and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof and to every people after their language; in the name of King Ahasuerus it was written and sealed with the king’s ring.

13 R ồi cho gởi các thơ bởi lính trạm cho các tỉnh của vua, đặng dạy biểu rằng nhằm ngày mười ba tháng mười hai, tức là tháng A-đa, phải trừ diệt, giết chết và làm cho hư mất hết thảy dân Giu-đa trong một ngày đó, vô luận người già kẻ trẻ, con nhỏ hay là đờn bà, và cướp giựt tài sản của chúng nó.

And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

14 Đ ể cho chiếu chỉ được tuyên bố trong mỗi tỉnh, có bổn sao lục đem rao cho các dân tộc biết, hầu cho chúng đều sẵn sàng về ngày đó.

The copy of the writing was to be given as law in every province that it be published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

15 C ác lính trạm vâng lịnh vua vội vã đi ra. Chiếu chỉ nầy cũng truyền tại kinh đô Su-sơ. Đoạn, vua và Ha-man ngồi lại uống rượu, còn thành Su-sơ đều hoảng kinh.

The posts went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the law was given in Shushan, the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
