1 K hỏi một vài ngày, Đức Chúa Jêsus trở lại thành Ca-bê-na-um, và chúng nghe nói Ngài ở trong nhà.

¶ And again he entered into Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that he was in the house.

2 H ọ họp lại tại đó đông lắm, đến nỗi trước cửa cũng không còn chỗ trống; Ngài giảng đạo cho họ nghe.

And soon many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door; and he preached the word unto them.

3 B ấy giờ có mấy kẻ đem tới cho Ngài một người đau bại, có bốn người khiêng.

And they came unto him, bringing a paralytic, carried by four men.

4 N hưng, vì đông người, không lại gần Ngài được, nên dở mái nhà ngay chỗ Ngài ngồi, rồi do lỗ đó dòng giường người bại xuống.

And when they could not come near unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof of the house where he was; and when they had broken it open, they let down the bed in which the paralytic lay.

5 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus thấy đức tin họ, bèn phán với kẻ bại rằng: Hỡi con ta, tội lỗi ngươi đã được tha.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the paralytic, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.

6 V ả, có mấy thầy thông giáo ngồi đó, nghĩ thầm rằng:

But there were certain of the scribes sitting there and thinking in their hearts,

7 S ao người nầy nói như vậy? Người nói phạm thượng đó! Ngoài mình Đức Chúa Trời, còn có ai tha tội được chăng?

Why does this fellow so blaspheme? Who can forgive sins but God only?

8 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus trong trí đã tự hiểu họ nghĩ như vậy, tức thì phán rằng: Sao các ngươi bàn luận trong lòng thể ấy?

And Jesus, knowing afterward in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said unto them, Why think ye these things in your hearts?

9 N ay bảo kẻ bại rằng: Tội ngươi đã được tha; hay là bảo người rằng: Hãy đứng dậy vác giường mà đi; hai điều ấy điều nào dễ hơn?

What is easier to say to the paralytic, Thy sins are forgiven thee, or to say, Arise and take up thy bed and walk?

10 V ả, để cho các ngươi biết rằng Con người ở thế gian có quyền tha tội, thì Ngài phán cùng kẻ bại rằng:

But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins (he spoke to the sick of the palsy),

11 T a biểu ngươi, hãy đứng dậy, vác giường đi về nhà.

I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy bed and go to thy house.

12 K ẻ bại đứng dậy, tức thì vác giường đi ra trước mặt thiên hạ; đến nỗi ai nấy làm lạ, ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời, mà rằng: Chúng tôi chưa hề thấy việc thể nầy.

And by and by he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like unto this.

13 B ấy giờ, Đức Chúa Jêsus trở lại về phía mé biển; cả dân chúng đến cùng Ngài, rồi Ngài dạy dỗ họ.

¶ And he went again unto the sea; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

14 N gài vừa đi qua thấy Lê-vi, con A-phê, đương ngồi tại sở thâu thuế, thì phán cùng người rằng: Hãy theo ta. Người đứng dậy theo Ngài.

And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

15 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus đương ngồi ăn tại nhà Lê-vi, có nhiều kẻ thâu thuế và người có tội đồng bàn với Ngài và môn đồ Ngài; vì trong bọn đó có nhiều kẻ theo Ngài rồi.

And it came to pass, that as Jesus sat at the table in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also at the table together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many and they had followed him.

16 C ác thầy thông giáo và người Pha-ri-si thấy Ngài ăn với người thâu thuế và kẻ phạm tội, thì nói với môn đồ Ngài rằng: Người cùng ăn với kẻ thâu thuế và người có tội sao!

And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing him eat with publicans and sinners, said unto his disciples, How is it that he eats and drinks with publicans and sinners?

17 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus nghe vậy, bèn phán cùng họ rằng: Chẳng phải kẻ mạnh khỏe cần thầy thuốc đâu, nhưng là kẻ có bịnh; ta chẳng phải đến gọi người công bình, nhưng gọi kẻ có tội.

When Jesus heard it, he said unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance.

18 V ả, môn đồ của Giăng và người Pha-ri-si đều kiêng ăn. Có người đến thưa cùng Đức Chúa Jêsus rằng: Bởi cớ nào môn đồ của Giăng và môn đồ của người Pha-ri-si đều kiêng ăn, còn môn đồ của thầy không kiêng ăn?

¶ And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees did fast and therefore came and said unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

19 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Bạn hữu của chàng rể có kiêng ăn được trong khi chàng rể còn ở cùng mình chăng? Hễ chàng rể còn ở với họ đến chừng nào, thì họ không thể kiêng ăn được đến chừng nấy.

And Jesus said unto them, Can those who are in a wedding fast while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

20 S ong tới kỳ chàng rể phải đem đi khỏi họ, trong ngày đó họ sẽ kiêng ăn.

But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast in those days.

21 K hông ai vá miếng nỉ mới vào cái áo cũ; nếu vậy thì miếng nỉ mới chằng rách áo cũ, mà đàng rách càng xấu thêm.

No one mends an old garment with a new piece of cloth, or else the new piece that filled it up tears away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

22 C ũng không ai đổ rượu mới vào bầu da cũ; nếu vậy, rượu làm vỡ bầu, rượu mất và bầu cũng chẳng còn.

And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, and the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are lost; but new wine must be poured into new wineskins.

23 N hằm ngày Sa-bát, Đức Chúa Jêsus đi qua đồng lúa mì; đang đi đường, môn đồ Ngài bứt bông lúa mì.

And it came to pass that as he went through the planted fields again on the sabbath day, his disciples began, as they walked, to pluck the ears of grain.

24 C ác người Pha-ri-si bèn nói cùng Ngài rằng: Coi kìa, sao môn đồ thầy làm điều không nên làm trong ngày Sa-bát?

And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

25 N gài đáp rằng: Các ngươi chưa đọc đến sự vua Đa-vít làm trong khi vua cùng những người đi theo bị túng đói hay sao?

And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those that were with him?

26 T hể nào trong đời A-bi-tha làm thầy cả thượng phẩm, vua ấy vào đến Đức Chúa Trời, ăn bánh bày ra, lại cũng cho những người đi theo ăn nữa, dầu bánh ấy chỉ những thầy tế lễ mới được phép ăn thôi?

How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?

27 Đ oạn, Ngài lại phán: Vì loài người mà lập ngày Sa-bát, chớ chẳng phải vì ngày Sa-bát mà dựng nên loài người.

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath;

28 V ậy thì Con người cũng làm chủ ngày Sa-bát.

therefore the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.
