¶ Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

2 N gười sanh ra như cỏ hoa, rồi bị phát; Người chạy qua như bóng, không ở lâu dài.

He comes forth like an open flower and is cut down; he flees as a shadow and does not remain.

3 D ầu vậy, Chúa còn để mắt trên người ấy, Và khiến tôi đến chịu Chúa xét đoán sao?

And dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one and bring me into judgment with thee?

4 A i có thể từ sự ô uế mà lấy ra được điều thanh sạch? Chẳng một ai!

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one.

5 N ếu ngày của loài người đã định rồi, Nếu số tháng người ở nơi Chúa, Và Chúa đã định giới hạn cho người, mà không qua khỏi được,

Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.

6 T hì xin Chúa hãy xây mắt Ngài khỏi người, để người đặng yên nghỉ, Cho đến khi mãn ngày mình như kẻ làm mướn vậy.

If thou should leave him, he will cease to exist; until then, he shall desire, as a hireling, his day.

7 V ì cây cối dẫu bị đốn còn trông cậy Sẽ còn mọc lên nữa, Không thôi nức chồi.

¶ For there is yet hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender branch will not cease.

8 D ẫu rễ nó già dưới đất, Thân nó chết trong bụi cát,

Though its root waxes old in the earth and its trunk is dead in the ground,

9 V ừa có hơi nước, nó sẽ mọc chồi, Và đâm nhành như một cây tơ;

at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth boughs like a new plant.

10 N hưng loài người chết, thì nằm tại đó, Loài người tắt hơi, thì đã đi đâu?

But when man shall die and be cut off, and the man shall perish, where shall he be?

11 N ước hồ chảy mất đi, Sông cạn và khô:

The waters from the sea went, and the river ran out, it dried up.

12 C ũng vậy, loài người nằm, rồi không hề chổi dậy: Người chẳng hề thức dậy cho đến khi không còn các từng trời, Và chẳng ai sẽ khiến cho người tỉnh lại khỏi giấc ngủ mình.

So man lies down and does not rise; until there is no heaven, they shall not awake nor be raised out of their sleep.

O that thou would hide me in Sheol, that thou would keep me covered until thy wrath is past, that thou would appoint me a set time and remember me!

14 N ếu loài người chết, có được sống lại chăng! Trọn ngày giặc giã tôi, tôi đợi chờ, Cho đến chừng tôi được buông thả,

If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time I will wait until my transformation comes.

15 C húa sẽ gọi, tôi sẽ thưa lại; Chúa sẽ đoái đến công việc của tay Chúa;

Then thou shalt call, and I will answer thee; thou wilt have a desire towards the work of thine hands.

16 N hưng bây giờ, Chúa đếm các bước tôi, Chúa há chẳng xem xét các tội lỗi tôi sao?

¶ For now thou dost number my steps; thou dost not open up my sin.

17 C ác tội phạm tôi bị niêm phong trong một cái túi, Và Chúa có thắt các sự gian ác tôi lại.

My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou dost sew up my iniquity.

18 S ong núi lở ta thành ra bụi, Và hòn đá bị nhắc dời khỏi chổ nó.

And certainly the mountain that falls is undone, and the rocks are removed out of their place.

19 N ước làm mòn đá, Lụt trôi bụi đất: Cũng một thể ấy, Chúa hủy sự hy vọng của loài người.

The impetuous waters break the stones and wash away the dust of the earth; in like manner thou dost cause man to lose hope.

20 C húa hãm đánh và thắng hơn loài người luôn, đoạn nó đi qua mất; Chúa đổi sắc mặt nó, và đuổi nó đi.

Thou shalt be stronger than him for ever, and he passes; thou dost change his countenance and send him away.

21 C ác con trai người được tôn trọng, còn người nào biết đến; Chúng bị hạ xuống, nhưng người cũng chẳng để ý vào.

His sons shall be honoured and he shall not know of it; or they shall be afflicted, but he shall not perceive of them.

22 T hịt người chỉ đau đớn vì một mình người, Và linh hồn người chỉ buồn rầu vì chính mình người mà thôi.

But while his flesh is upon him, he shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
