¶ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

2 G iê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời ghen và báo thù; Đức Giê-hô-va báo thù, và đầy sự thạnh nộ. Đức Giê-hô-va báo thù kẻ cừu địch mình và cưu giận cho kẻ thù mình.

¶ God is jealous, and the LORD avenges; the LORD avenges and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.

3 Đ ức Giê-hô-va chậm giận và có quyền lớn; nhưng Ngài chẳng cầm kẻ mắc tội là vô tội. Đức Giê-hô-va đi trong gió lốc và bão tố, những đám mây là bụi dưới chơn Ngài.

The LORD is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all treat the guilty as though they were innocent; the LORD whose way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

4 N gài quở trách biển, làm cho nó khô; và làm cạn hết thảy các sông. Ba-san và Cạt-mên đều mòn mỏi, hoa của Li-ban đều héo rụng.

He reprehends the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers; Bashan was destroyed, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon was destroyed.

5 C ác núi run rẩy vì cớ Ngài, các đồi tan chảy; đất và thế gian cũng dân cư trên đất đều dậy lên trước mặt Ngài.

The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein.

6 A i đứng được trước sự thạnh nộ Ngài? Ai đương nổi sự nóng giận Ngài? Sự tức giận của Ngài đổ ra như lửa, những vầng đá vỡ ra bởi Ngài.

Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

7 Đ ức Giê-hô-va là tốt lành, làm đồn lũy trong ngày hoạn nạn, và biết những kẻ ẩn náu nơi Ngài.

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those that trust in him.

8 N gài dùng nước lụt hủy diệt chỗ nó, và đuổi kẻ thù nghịch mình vào sự tối tăm.

But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of his place, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

9 C ác ngươi sẽ lập mưu gì nghịch cùng Đức Giê-hô-va? Ngài sẽ diệt hết cả, sẽ chẳng có tai nạn dậy lên lần thứ hai.

¶ What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end; he will not hold back the tribulation the second time.

10 V ì chúng nó xỏ xen như gai gốc, và mê man như say rượu, thì sẽ bị thiêu hủy hết như rơm khô.

For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while the drunkards shall be drinking, they shall be devoured as stubble full of dryness.

11 A áy là từ ngươi mà ra một kẻ mưu sự dữ nghịch cùng Đức Giê-hô-va, và toan sự gian ác.

He has come out of thee that has imagined evil against the LORD, a counsellor of Belial.

12 Đ ức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Dầu chúng nó sức mạnh đầy đủ và người đông cũng sẽ bị từ đi và trở nên hư không. Dầu ta đã làm khổ ngươi, song ta sẽ chẳng làm khổ ngươi nữa.

Thus hath the LORD said: For much rest that they have, and though they are many, yet thus shall they be cut down, and he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

13 N hưng bấy giờ ta sẽ bẻ gãy ách nó khỏi ngươi, và bứt dứt dây ngươi.

For now I will break his yoke from off thee and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14 Đ ức Giê-hô-va đã truyền lịnh về ngươi, từ danh ngươi chẳng sanh ra nữa. Ta sẽ trừ bỏ tượng chạm và tượng đúc khỏi nhà các thần ngươi; ta sẽ làm mồ mả cho ngươi, vì ngươi là hèn mạt.

And the LORD shall give a commandment concerning thee that no one else of thy name ever be sown; out of the house of thy god I will cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make it thy grave because thou wert vile.

15 N ầy, trên các núi có chơn của kẻ đem tin lành và rao sự bình an! Hỡi Giu-đa, ngươi nữa, nó sẽ bị diệt sạch.

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings good tidings, of him that publishes peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows; for Belial shall no longer pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
