1 H ỡi Thê-ô-phi-lơ, trong sách thứ nhứt ta, ta từng nói về mọi điều Đức Chúa Jêsus đã làm và dạy từ ban đầu,

¶ The former treatise I have made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 c ho đến ngày Ngài được cất lên trời, sau khi Ngài cậy Đức Thánh Linh mà răn dạy các sứ đồ Ngài đã chọn.

until the day in which, having given commandments by the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen, he was received on high;

3 S au khi chịu đau đớn rồi, thì trước mặt các sứ đồ, Ngài lấy nhiều chứng cớ tỏ ra mình là sống, và hiện đến với các sứ đồ trong bốn mươi ngày, phán bảo những sự về nước Đức Chúa Trời.

unto whom he also showed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, appearing unto them for forty days and speaking to them of the kingdom of God;

4 L úc ở với các sứ đồ, Ngài dặn rằng đừng ra khỏi thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, nhưng phải ở đó chờ điều Cha đã hứa, là điều các ngươi đã nghe ta nói.

and gathering them together, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, Which, he said, ye have heard of me.

5 V ì chưng Giăng đã làm phép báp-tem bằng nước, nhưng trong ít ngày, các ngươi sẽ chịu phép báp-tem bằng Đức Thánh Linh.

For John truly baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

6 V ậy, những người nhóm tại đó thưa cùng Ngài rằng: Lạy Chúa, có phải trong lúc nầy Chúa sẽ lập lại nước Y-sơ-ra-ên chăng?

¶ Then those that were come together asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 N gài đáp rằng: Kỳ hạn và ngày giờ mà Cha đã tự quyền định lấy, ấy là việc các ngươi chẳng nên biết.

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under his authority only.

8 N hưng khi Đức Thánh Linh giáng trên các ngươi, thì các ngươi sẽ nhận lấy quyền phép, và làm chứng về ta tại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, cả xứ Giu-đê, xứ Sa-ma-ri, cho đến cùng trái đất.

But ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 N gài phán bấy nhiêu lời rồi, thì được cất lên trong lúc các ngươi đó nhìn xem Ngài, có một đám mây tiếp Ngài khuất đi, không thấy nữa.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 C ác người đó đương ngó chăm trên trời trong lúc Ngài ngự lên, xảy có hai người nam mặc áo trắng hiện đến trước mặt,

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

11 v à nói rằng: Hỡi người Ga-li-lê, sao các ngươi đứng ngóng lên trời làm chi? Jêsus nầy đã được cất lên trời khỏi giữa các ngươi, cũng sẽ trở lại như cách các ngươi đã thấy Ngài lên trời vậy.

who also said, Ye men of Galilee, what do ye stand gazing at up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 B ấy giờ, các người đó từ núi gọi là ô-li-ve trở về thành Giê-ru-sa-lem; núi ấy cách thành Giê-ru-sa-lem một quãng đường ước đi một ngày Sa-bát.

¶ Then they returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 K hi đã về đến, bèn lên một cái phòng cao kia, là nơi Phi -e-rơ, Giăng, Gia-cơ, Anh-rê, Phi-líp, Thô-ma, Ba-thê-lê-my, Ma-thi -ơ, Gia-cơ con của A-phê, Si-môn Xê-lốt, và Giu-đe con của Gia-cơ thường ở.

And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James were.

14 H ết thảy những người đó bền lòng đồng một ý mà cầu nguyện với các người đờn bà, và Ma-ri là mẹ Đức Chúa Jêsus cùng anh em Ngài.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 T rong những ngày đó, Phi -e-rơ đứng dậy giữa các anh em, số người nhóm lại ước được một trăm hai mươi người, mà nói rằng:

¶ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said (the number of names together were about one hundred and twenty),

16 H ỡi anh em ta, lời Đức Thánh Linh đã nhờ miệng vua Đa-vít mà nói tiên tri trong Kinh Thánh về tên Giu-đa, là đứa đã dẫn đường cho chúng bắt Đức Chúa Jêsus, thì phải được ứng nghiệm.

Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to those that took Jesus.

17 V ì nó vốn thuộc về bọn ta, và đã nhận phần trong chức vụ nầy.

For he was numbered with us, and had obtained a lot or inheritance of this ministry.

18 T ên đó lấy tiền thưởng của tội ác mình mà mua một đám ruộng, rồi thì nhào xuống, nứt bụng và ruột đổ ra hết.

He, therefore, purchased a field with the reward of his iniquity; and hanging himself, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 S ự đó cả dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều biết chán, đến nỗi chúng gọi ruộng đó theo thổ âm mình là Hác-en-đa-ma, nghĩa là ruộng huyết.

And it was known unto all the dwellers of Jerusalem, in such a manner that the field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 T rong sách Thi Thiên cũng có chép rằng: Nguyền cho chỗ ở nó trở nên hoang loạn, Chớ có ai ở đó; lại rằng: Nguyền cho có một người khác nhận lấy chức nó.

For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell therein, and let another take his office.

21 V ậy, nội những kẻ đã theo cùng chúng ta trọn lúc Đức Chúa Jêsus đi lại giữa chúng ta,

It behooves, therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 t ừ khi Giăng làm phép báp-tem cho đến ngày Ngài được cất lên khỏi giữa chúng ta, phải có một người làm chứng cùng chúng ta về sự Ngài sống lại.

beginning from the baptism of John unto that same day that he was received on high from among us, that one must be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 M ôn đồ cử ra hai người: Giô-sép tức là Ba-sa-ba, cũng gọi là Giúc-tu, và Ma-thia,

And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 r ồi cầu nguyện rằng: Lạy Chúa, Ngài biết lòng mọi người, xin tỏ ra cho chúng tôi nội hai người nầy ai là người Chúa đã chọn,

And they prayed and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of everyone, show which of these two thou hast chosen,

25 đ ặng dự vào chức vụ sứ đồ, thay vì Giu-đa đã bỏ đặng đi nơi của nó.

that he may take the lot or inheritance of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas rebelled that he might go to his own place.

26 Đ oạn bắt thăm, trúng nhằm Ma-thia; người bèn được bổ vào mười một sứ đồ.

And they gave forth their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
