1 N ăm thứ hai đời vua Đa-ri-út, ngày mồng một tháng sáu, có lời của Đức Giê-hô-va cậy đấng tiên tri A-ghê phán cho Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai Sa-la-thi-ên, quan trấn thủ xứ Giu-đê, và cho Giê-hô-sua, con trai Giô-xa-đác, thầy tế lễ cả, mà rằng:

¶ In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the hand of Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

2 Đ ức Giê-hô-va vạn quân có phán như vầy: Dân nầy nói rằng: Thì giờ chưa đến, tức là thì giờ xây lại nhà Đức Giê-hô-va.

Thus speaketh the LORD of the hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not yet come, the time to build the house of the LORD.

3 V ậy nên có lời của Đức Giê-hô-va phán ra bởi đấng tiên tri A-ghê rằng:

Then came the word of the LORD by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying,

4 N ay có phải là thì giờ các ngươi ở trong nhà có trần ván, khi nhà nầy hoang vu sao?

Do you have time, all of you, to dwell in your panelled houses, and this house is deserted?

5 V ậy bây giờ Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Các ngươi khá xem xét đường lối mình.

Now therefore thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Consider your ways.

6 C ác ngươi gieo nhiều mà gặt ít; ăn mà không no; uống mà không đủ; mặc mà không ấm; và kẻ nào làm thuê, đựng tiền công mình trong túi lủng.

Ye have sown much and bring in little; ye eat, but ye are not filled; ye drink, but ye are not satisfied; ye clothe yourselves, but you are not warm; and he that is a hireling receives his wages in a bag with holes.

7 Đ ức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Các ngươi khá xem xét đường lối mình.

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Consider your ways.

8 H ãy lên núi, đem gỗ về, và xây nhà nầy, thì ta sẽ lấy nó làm vui lòng, và ta sẽ được sáng danh, Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

Go up to the mountain and bring wood and build the house; and I will place my will in her, and I will be glorified, said the LORD.

9 C ác ngươi trông nhiều mà được ít; các ngươi đem vào nhà, thì ta đã thổi lên trên. Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán: Aáy là tại làm sao? Aáy là tại nhà ta thì hoang vu, mà các ngươi ai nấy lo xây nhà mình.

Ye look for much and find little; and when ye lock it up at home, I shall blow upon it. Why? said the LORD of the hosts. Because my house is deserted, and ye run each one of you unto his own house.

10 C ho nên, vì cớ các ngươi, trời giữ móc lại, và đất giữ bông trái lại.

Therefore the rain of the heavens over you is held back, and the earth has held back her fruits.

11 T a đã gọi cơn hạn hán đến trên đất, trên các núi, trên lúa mì, trên rượu mới, trên dầu, và trên sản vật đất sanh ra, trên loài người, trên loài vật, và trên mọi việc tay làm.

And I called for a drought upon this land and upon the mountains and upon the wheat and upon the wine and upon the oil and upon that which the earth brings forth and upon the men, and upon the beasts and upon every labour of hands.

12 V ậy Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai Sa-la-thi-ên, và Giê-hô-sua, con trai Giô-xa-đác, thầy tế lễ cả, cùng cả dân sót lại vâng theo tiếng của Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời mình, và lời của đấng tiên tri A-ghê mà Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời mình đã sai đến, thì dân sự đều sợ sệt trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

¶ Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, heard the voice of the LORD their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people feared before the LORD.

13 A -ghê, sứ giả của Đức Giê-hô-va bèn nói cùng dân sự theo lịnh truyền của Đức Giê-hô-va, mà rằng: Ta ở cùng các ngươi, Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

Then spoke Haggai the ambassador of the LORD in the embassy of the LORD unto the people, saying, I am with you, said the LORD.

14 Đ oạn, Đức Giê-hô-va giục lòng Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai Sa-la-thi-ên, quan trấn thủ Giu-đa, và giục lòng Giê-hô-sua, con trai Giô-xa-đác, thầy tế lễ cả, và giục lòng cả dân sự sót lại; họ đều đến, làm việc nơi nhà Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, là Đức Chúa Trời mình.

And the LORD woke up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked in the house of the LORD of the hosts, their God,

15 A áy là ngày hai mươi bốn tháng sáu về năm thứ hai đời vua Đa-ri-út.

in the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
