1 E ntonces Job respondió:

¶ But Job answered and said,

2 “ Escuchen atentamente mis palabras, Y que sea éste su consuelo para mí.

Hear diligently my speech, and let this be instead of your consolations.

3 T engan paciencia y hablaré; Y después que haya hablado, se podrán burlar.

Suffer me that I may speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.

4 E n cuanto a mí, ¿me quejo yo al hombre ? ¿Y por qué no he de ser impaciente ?

As for me, is my complaint to man? And if so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

5 M írenme, y quédense atónitos, Y pongan la mano sobre su boca.

Look upon me and be astonished and lay your hand upon your mouth.

6 A un cuando me acuerdo, me perturbo, Y el horror se apodera de mi carne.

Even I myself, when I remember, I am afraid, and trembling takes hold on my flesh.

7 ¿ Por qué siguen viviendo los impíos, Y al envejecer, también se hacen muy poderosos ?

¶ Why do the wicked live and become old and even increase in riches?

8 E n su presencia se afirman con ellos sus descendientes, Y sus vástagos delante de sus ojos;

Their seed is with them, established in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.

9 S us casas están libres de temor, Y no está la vara de Dios sobre ellos.

Their houses are safe from fear; neither is the rod of God upon them.

10 S u toro engendra sin fallar, Su vaca pare y no aborta.

Their cows conceive, and do not abort; their cows calve and do not cast forth their young.

11 E nvían fuera a sus niños cual rebaño, Y sus hijos andan saltando.

They send forth their little ones like a flock of sheep, and their children dance.

12 C antan (Alzan la voz) con pandero y arpa, Y al son de la flauta se regocijan.

They jump at the sound of the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

13 P asan sus días en prosperidad, Pero de repente descienden al Seol (región de los muertos).

They spend their days in pleasure and in a moment go down to Sheol.

14 Y dicen a Dios: ‘¡Apártate de nosotros! No deseamos el conocimiento de Tus caminos.

Therefore, they say unto God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of thy ways.

15 ¿ Quién es el Todopoderoso (Shaddai), para que Le sirvamos, Y qué ganaríamos con rogarle ?’

Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

16 N o está en mano de ellos su prosperidad; El consejo de los impíos lejos está de mí.

Behold that their good is not in their hands; the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

17 ¿ Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los impíos, O cae sobre ellos su calamidad ? ¿Reparte Dios dolores en Su ira?

¶ How often is the lamp of the wicked put out and their destruction comes upon them, and God distributes sorrows upon them in his anger.

18 ¿ Son como paja delante del viento, Y como tamo que arrebata el torbellino ?

They shall be as stubble before the wind and as chaff taken up by the whirlwind.

19 U stedes dicen: ‘Dios guarda la iniquidad de un hombre para sus hijos.’ Que Dios le pague para que aprenda.

God shall lay up his violence for their sons; and he will reward him so that he shall know it.

20 V ean sus ojos su ruina, Y beba de la furia del Todopoderoso.

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 P ues ¿qué le importa la suerte de su casa después de él (después que él muera) Cuando el número de sus meses haya sido cortado?

For what delight shall he have in his house after him, being cut off in the number of his months?

22 ¿ Puede enseñarse a Dios sabiduría, Siendo que El juzga a los encumbrados ?

Shall he teach God knowledge, seeing he judges those that are high?

23 U no muere en pleno vigor, Estando completamente tranquilo y satisfecho;

This one shall die in the full strength of his beauty, being completely at ease and quiet.

24 S us costados están repletos de grasa, Húmeda está la médula de sus huesos,

His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

25 M ientras otro muere con alma amargada, Y sin haber probado nada bueno.

And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, never having eaten with pleasure.

26 J untos yacen en el polvo, Y los gusanos los cubren.

They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

27 Y o conozco los pensamientos de ustedes, Y los designios con los cuales me dañarían.

¶ Behold, I know your thoughts and the imaginations which ye devise against me.

28 P orque dicen: ‘¿Dónde está la casa del noble, Y dónde la tienda donde moraban los impíos ?’

For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked?

29 ¿ No han preguntado a los caminantes, Y no reconocen su testimonio ?

Have ye not asked those that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens?

30 P orque el impío es preservado para el día de la destrucción; Ellos serán conducidos en el día de la ira.

That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

31 ¿ Quién le declarará en su cara sus acciones, Y quién le pagará por lo que ha hecho?

Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done?

32 M ientras es llevado al sepulcro, Velarán sobre su tumba.

He shall yet be brought to the grave and shall remain in the tomb.

33 L os terrones del valle suavemente lo cubrirán, Y le seguirán todos los hombres, E innumerables otros irán delante de él.

The clods of the river valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall be drawn after him, as there were innumerable before him.

34 ¿ Cómo, pues, me consuelan en vano? Sus respuestas están llenas de falsedad.”

How then do ye comfort me in vain, given that your answers remain as falsehood?
