1 E ntonces el Señor me dijo: “Toma una tablilla grande y escribe sobre ella en caracteres comunes: Veloz es el botín, rápida la presa.

¶ Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take a great roll and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Mahershalal-hashbaz.

2 Y tomé conmigo como testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías.”

And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

3 M e acerqué a la profetisa, y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y el Señor me dijo: “Ponle por nombre Maher Shalal Hash Baz.

And I went unto the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the LORD said to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.

4 “ Porque antes que el niño sepa clamar ‘padre mío’ o ‘madre mía,’ la riqueza de Damasco y el botín de Samaria serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria.”

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

5 Y volvió el Señor a hablarme de nuevo, diciendo:

The LORD also spoke unto me again, saying,

6 “ Por cuanto este pueblo ha rehusado las aguas de Siloé que corren mansamente, Y se ha regocijado en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías,

Forasmuch as this people refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly and rejoiced in Rezin and Remaliah’s son,

7 P or tanto, el Señor va a traer sobre ellos las aguas impetuosas y abundantes del Eufrates, Es decir, al rey de Asiria con toda su gloria, Que se saldrá de todos sus cauces y pasará sobre todas sus riberas.

now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his power, and he shall come up over all his channels and go over all his banks:

8 F luirá con ímpetu en Judá, inundará y seguirá adelante, Hasta el cuello llegará, Y la extensión de sus alas Llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel (Dios con nosotros).

And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

9 Q uebrántense, pueblos, que serán destrozados; Presten oído, confines todos de la tierra. Prepárense, que serán destrozados; Prepárense, que serán destrozados.

¶ Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries, prepare yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

10 T racen un plan, pero será frustrado; Profieran una palabra, pero no permanecerá, Porque Dios está con nosotros (Emmanuel).”

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand, for God is with us.

11 P ues así el Señor me habló con gran poder y me instruyó para que no anduviera en el camino de este pueblo, y dijo:

For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 “ No digan ustedes: ‘ Es conspiración,’ A todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración, Ni teman lo que ellos temen, ni se aterroricen.

Do not say, A confederacy, to all those to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear their fear, nor be afraid.

13 A l Señor de los ejércitos es a quien ustedes deben tener por santo. Sea El su temor, Y sea El su terror.

Sanctify the LORD of the hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

14 E ntonces El vendrá a ser santuario; Pero piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo Para ambas casas de Israel, Y lazo y trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.

Then he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock to cause a fall to both the houses of Israel, for a snare and for a net to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 M uchos tropezarán allí, Y caerán y serán quebrantados; Serán enlazados y apresados.”

And many among them shall stumble and fall and be broken and be snared and be taken.

16 A ta el testimonio, sella la ley entre mis discípulos.

¶ Bind up the testimony; seal the law among my disciples.

17 A guardaré al Señor que esconde Su rostro de la casa de Jacob. Sí, a El esperaré.

And I will wait for the LORD, who hid his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18 Y o y los hijos que el Señor me ha dado estamos por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte del Señor de los ejércitos que mora en el Monte Sion.

Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of the hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.

19 Y cuando les digan: “Consulten a los adivinos y a los espiritistas que susurran y murmuran,” digan: ‘¿No debe un pueblo consultar a su Dios ?’ ¿ Acaso consultará a los muertos por los vivos ?

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto spiritists and unto wizards that peep and that mutter; shall the people not seek unto their God? Shall we appeal for the living unto the dead?

20 ¡ A la ley y al testimonio! Si ellos no hablan conforme a esta palabra, es porque no hay para ellos amanecer.

To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

21 Y pasarán por la tierra oprimidos y hambrientos. Y sucederá que cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, volviendo el rostro hacia arriba.

Then they shall pass through this land, fatigued and hungry, and it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves and curse their king and their God. And raising their face high,

22 D espués mirarán hacia la tierra, y verán tribulación y tinieblas, lo sombrío de la angustia; y serán lanzados a la oscuridad.

they shall look upon the earth and behold tribulation and gross darkness, darkness and anguish; and they shall be submerged in gross darkness.
