1 J oás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Sibia de Beerseba.

¶ Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 J oás hizo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor todos los días del sacerdote Joiada.

And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada, the priest.

3 J oiada escogió dos mujeres para el rey, y éste tuvo hijos e hijas.

And Jehoiada took for him two wives, and he begat sons and daughters.

4 S ucedió después de esto que Joás decidió restaurar la casa del Señor.

And it came to pass after this that Joash desired to repair the house of the LORD.

5 A sí que reunió a los sacerdotes y a los Levitas, y les dijo: “Salgan a las ciudades de Judá, y recojan dinero de todo Israel para reparar anualmente la casa de su Dios; y dense prisa en esto.” Pero los Levitas no se apresuraron.

And he gathered together the priests and the Levites and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and be diligent in this matter. However the Levites were not diligent.

6 E ntonces el rey llamó al sumo sacerdote Joiada, y le dijo: “¿Por qué no has exigido a los Levitas que traigan de Judá y de Jerusalén la contribución que Moisés, siervo del Señor, impuso sobre la congregación de Israel para la tienda del testimonio ?”

Therefore the king called for Jehoiada, the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem unto the tabernacle of the testimony the collection, according to the commandment of Moses, the slave of the LORD and of the congregation of Israel?

7 P orque los hijos de la perversa Atalía habían forzado la entrada a la casa de Dios y aun habían usado para los Baales las cosas sagradas de la casa del Señor.

For the wicked woman, Athaliah, and her sons had broken up the house of God, and they had also bestowed all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD upon Baalim.

8 E ntonces el rey, mandó que hicieran un cofre y lo colocaron afuera, junto a la puerta de la casa del Señor.

And at the king’s commandment they made an ark and set it outside at the gate of the house of the LORD.

9 Y proclamaron en Judá y en Jerusalén que trajeran al Señor la contribución que Moisés, siervo de Dios, impuso sobre Israel en el desierto.

And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the slave of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

10 T odos los oficiales y todo el pueblo se regocijaron y trajeron sus contribuciones y las echaron en el cofre hasta llenarlo.

And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought in and cast into the ark until they had fulfilled their duty.

11 Y sucedía que siempre que el cofre era traído al oficial del rey por los Levitas, y cuando veían que había mucho dinero, entonces el escriba del rey y el oficial del sumo sacerdote venían, vaciaban el cofre, lo tomaban y lo volvían a su lugar. Así hacían diariamente y recogían mucho dinero.

Now it came to pass, that at what time the ark was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the ark and took it and returned it to its place. Thus they did day by day and gathered money in abundance.

12 E l rey y Joiada lo daban a los que hacían la obra del servicio de la casa del Señor. Estos contrataron canteros y carpinteros para reparar la casa del Señor, y también artífices en hierro y bronce para reparar la casa del Señor.

And the king and Jehoiada gave it to those that did the work of the service of the house of the LORD and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD and also those that wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

13 L os obreros hicieron su trabajo, y el trabajo de reparación progresó en sus manos, y restauraron la casa de Dios conforme a sus planos y la reforzaron.

So the workmen wrought, and by their hands the work was done, and they restored the house of God and strengthened it.

14 C uando terminaron, trajeron el resto del dinero delante del rey y de Joiada; y lo convirtieron en utensilios para la casa del Señor, utensilios para el ministerio y para el holocausto, y recipientes y utensilios de oro y de plata. Todos los días de Joiada ofrecieron continuamente holocaustos en la casa del Señor.

And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which they made vessels for the house of the LORD, vessels to minister and to offer with, and spoons and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

15 J oiada envejeció y murió a una edad muy avanzada. Tenía 130 años cuando murió.

¶ But Jehoiada waxed old and was full of days when he died; he was one hundred and thirty years old when he died.

16 L o sepultaron en la ciudad de David con los reyes, porque había hecho bien en Israel, a Dios y a Su templo.

And they buried him in the city of David among the kings because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and toward his house.

17 P ero después de la muerte de Joiada, vinieron los oficiales de Judá y se inclinaron ante el rey, y el rey los escuchó.

Now after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and worshipped the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

18 A bandonaron la casa del Señor, el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a las Aseras y a los ídolos; entonces vino la ira de Dios sobre Judá y Jerusalén a causa de esta culpa suya.

And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers and served groves and idols, and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for their guilt.

19 N o obstante, El les envió profetas para hacerlos volver al Señor; y aunque éstos dieron testimonio contra ellos, ellos no prestaron atención.

Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again unto the LORD, and they testified against them, but they would not give ear.

20 E ntonces el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Zacarías, hijo del sacerdote Joiada. El se puso en pie, en un lugar más alto que el pueblo, y les dijo: “Así ha dicho Dios: ‘¿Por qué quebrantan ustedes los mandamientos del Señor y no prosperan ? Por haber abandonado al Señor, El también los ha abandonado.’”

And the Spirit of God clothed himself in Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada, the priest, who being over the people, said unto them, Thus hath God said, Why do ye transgress the commandments of the LORD? Ye shall not prosper in this; for because ye have forsaken the LORD, he shall also forsake you.

21 P ero ellos conspiraron contra Zacarías, y por orden del rey lo mataron a pedradas en el atrio de la casa del Señor.

And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

22 N o se acordó el rey Joás de la bondad que Joiada, padre de Zacarías, le había mostrado, sino que asesinó a su hijo. Y éste al morir dijo: “Que lo vea el Señor y tome venganza.”

Thus Joash, the king, did not remember the mercy which Jehoiada, his father, had done to him but slew his son; who said when he died, The LORD look upon it and require it.

23 Y aconteció que a la vuelta del año, el ejército de los Arameos subió contra Joás; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, destruyeron de entre la población a todos los oficiales del pueblo, y enviaron todo el botín al rey de Damasco.

And at the end of the year, the host of Syria came up against him, and they came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

24 C iertamente, el ejército de los Arameos vino con pocos hombres; sin embargo, el Señor entregó a un ejército muy grande en sus manos, porque los de Judá habían abandonado al Señor, Dios de sus padres. Así ejecutaron juicio contra Joás.

For even though the army of the Syrians had come with a small company of men, the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgments against Joash.

25 C uando los Arameos se alejaron de él (dejándolo muy herido), sus mismos siervos conspiraron contra él a causa de la sangre del hijo del sacerdote Joiada, y lo mataron en su cama. Joás murió, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.

And when they were departed from him (for they left him in great diseases), his own slaves conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada, the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the sepulchres of the kings.

26 E stos son los que conspiraron contra él: Zabad, hijo de Simeat la Amonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Simrit la Moabita.

Those that conspired against him were Zabad, the son of Shimeath, an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad, the son of Shimrith, a Moabitess.

27 E n cuanto a sus hijos, los muchos oráculos contra él y la restauración de la casa de Dios, están escritos en la historia del Libro de los Reyes. Entonces su hijo Amasías reinó en su lugar.

Now concerning his sons, and of the multiplication that he did of the taxes and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah, his son, reigned in his stead.
