1 A mados, no crean a todo espíritu, sino prueben los espíritus para ver si son de Dios, porque muchos falsos profetas han salido al mundo.

¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 E n esto ustedes conocen el Espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne, es de Dios.

In this know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ, is come in flesh is of God:

3 Y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús, no es de Dios, y éste es el espíritu del anticristo, del cual ustedes han oído que viene, y que ahora ya está en el mundo.

And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ, is come in flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, of which ye have heard that it should come, and that now it is already in the world.

4 H ijos míos, ustedes son de Dios y han vencido a los falsos profetas, porque mayor es Aquél que está en ustedes que el que está en el mundo.

¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

5 E llos son del mundo; por eso hablan de parte del mundo, y el mundo los oye.

They are of the world; therefore, they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

6 N osotros somos de Dios. El que conoce a Dios, nos oye; el que no es de Dios, no nos oye. En esto conocemos el espíritu de la verdad y el espíritu del error. Dios es Amor

We are of God; he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

7 A mados, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios, y todo el que ama es nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios.

¶ Beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. Anyone that loves is born of God and knows God.

8 E l que no ama no conoce a Dios, porque Dios es amor.

He that does not love does not know God, for God is charity.

9 E n esto se manifestó el amor de Dios en nosotros: en que Dios ha enviado a Su Hijo unigénito (único) al mundo para que vivamos por medio de El.

In this was the charity of God demonstrated in us, in that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 E n esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que El nos amó a nosotros y envió a Su Hijo como propiciación por nuestros pecados.

In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.

11 A mados, si Dios así nos amó, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

12 A Dios nunca Lo ha visto nadie. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y Su amor se perfecciona en nosotros.

No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his charity is completed in us.

13 E n esto sabemos que permanecemos en El y El en nosotros: en que nos ha dado de Su Espíritu.

In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us, in that he has given us of his Spirit.

14 Y nosotros hemos visto y damos testimonio de que el Padre envió al Hijo para ser el Salvador del mundo.

¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 T odo aquél que confiesa que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él y él en Dios.

Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

16 Y nosotros hemos llegado a conocer y hemos creído el amor que Dios tiene para nosotros. Dios es amor, y el que permanece en amor permanece en Dios y Dios permanece en él.

And we have known and believed the charity that God has in us. God is charity, and he that abides in charity abides in God, and God in him.

17 E n esto se perfecciona el amor en nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio, pues como El es, así somos también nosotros en este mundo.

¶ In this the charity with us is made perfect, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, that as he is, so are we in this world.

18 E n el amor no hay temor, sino que el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor, porque el temor involucra castigo, y el que teme no es hecho perfecto en el amor.

In charity there is no fear; but charity that is perfect casts out fear; because fear has torment; from which he that fears is not complete in charity.

19 N osotros amamos porque El nos amó primero.

We love him, because he first loved us.

20 S i alguien dice: “Yo amo a Dios,” pero aborrece a su hermano, es un mentiroso. Porque el que no ama a su hermano, a quien ha visto, no puede amar a Dios a quien no ha visto.

If anyone says, I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he that does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

21 Y este mandamiento tenemos de El: que el que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.

And we have this commandment from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.
