1 ¿ No soy libre ? ¿No soy apóstol ? ¿No he visto a Jesús nuestro Señor ? ¿No son ustedes mi obra en el Señor ?

¶ Am I not an apostle? Am I not free? Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord?

2 S i para otros no soy apóstol, por lo menos para ustedes sí lo soy; pues ustedes son el sello de mi apostolado en el Señor.

If I am not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you, for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 M i defensa contra los que me examinan es ésta:

¶ My answer to those that examine me is this,

4 ¿ Acaso no tenemos derecho a comer y beber ?

Do we not have authority to eat and to drink?

5 ¿ No tenemos derecho a llevar con nosotros una esposa creyente, así como los demás apóstoles y los hermanos del Señor y Cefas (Pedro) ?

Do we not have authority to bring with us a sister, a wife, as also the other apostles and as the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

6 ¿ O acaso sólo Bernabé y yo no tenemos el derecho a no trabajar?

Do only Barnabas and I not have authority to forbear working?

7 ¿ Quién ha servido alguna vez como soldado a sus propias expensas? ¿Quién planta una viña y no come de su fruto ? ¿O quién cuida un rebaño y no bebe de la leche del rebaño?

Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? or who feeds a flock and does not eat of the milk of the flock?

8 ¿ Acaso digo esto según el juicio humano ? ¿No dice también la Ley esto mismo?

Do I say this only according to men? or does not the law say the same also?

9 P ues en la Ley de Moisés está escrito: “ No pondras bozal al buey cuando trilla.” ¿Acaso le preocupan a Dios los bueyes ?

For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads out the grain. Does God take care for oxen?

10 ¿ O lo dice especialmente por nosotros? Sí, se escribió por nosotros, porque el que ara debe arar con esperanza, y el que trilla debe trillar con la esperanza de recibir de la cosecha.

Or does he say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that plows should plow in hope, and that he that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 S i en ustedes sembramos lo espiritual, ¿será demasiado que de ustedes cosechemos lo material ?

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap material things from you?

12 S i otros tienen este derecho sobre ustedes, ¿no lo tenemos aún más nosotros? Sin embargo, no hemos usado este derecho, sino que sufrimos todo para no causar estorbo al evangelio de Cristo.

If others are partakers of this authority over you, why not us? Nevertheless we have not used this authority, but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 ¿ No saben que los que desempeñan los servicios sagrados comen la comida del templo, y los que regularmente sirven al altar, del altar reciben su parte ?

Do ye not know that those who work with sacred things live of the things of the sanctuary? and those who serve at the altar partake of the altar?

14 A sí también ordenó el Señor que los que proclaman el evangelio, vivan del evangelio.

Even so the Lord has ordained that those who preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 P ero yo de nada de esto me he aprovechado. Y no escribo esto para que así se haga conmigo. Porque mejor me fuera morir, que permitir que alguien me prive de esta gloria.

¶ But I have used none of these things, neither have I written these things that it should be so done unto me; for it were better for me to die than that anyone should make this my glory void.

16 P orque si predico el evangelio (anuncio las buenas nuevas), no tengo nada de qué gloriarme, pues estoy bajo el deber de hacerlo. Pues ¡ay de mí si no predico el evangelio!

For though I preach the gospel, I have no reason to glory, for it is an obligation laid upon me; for woe is me, if I do not preach the gospel!

17 P orque si hago esto voluntariamente, tengo recompensa; pero si lo hago en contra de mi voluntad, un encargo (una mayordomía) se me ha confiado.

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, the stewardship of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 ¿ Cuál es, entonces, mi recompensa ? Que al predicar el evangelio (anunciar las buenas nuevas), pueda ofrecerlo gratuitamente sin hacer pleno uso de mi derecho como predicador del evangelio. Celo Evangelizador de Pablo

What reward, then, shall I have? That preaching the gospel, I may make the gospel of the Christ without charge, that I abuse not my authority in the gospel.

19 P orque aunque soy libre de todos, de todos me he hecho esclavo para ganar al mayor número posible.

¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 A los Judíos me hice como Judío, para poder ganar a los Judíos. A los que están bajo la Ley, como bajo la Ley, aunque yo no estoy bajo la Ley, para poder ganar a los que están bajo la Ley.

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law;

21 A los que están sin ley, como sin ley, aunque no estoy sin la ley de Dios, sino bajo la ley de Cristo, para poder ganar a los que están sin ley.

to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law.

22 A los débiles me hice débil, para ganar a los débiles. A todos me he hecho todo, para que por todos los medios salve a algunos.

To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some.

23 Y todo lo hago por amor del evangelio, para ser partícipe de él. Disciplina Personal de Pablo

And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker together of it.

24 ¿ No saben que los que corren en el estadio, todos en verdad corren, pero sólo uno obtiene el premio ? Corran de tal modo que ganen.

¶ Know ye not that those who run in a race indeed all run, but one receives the prize? So run, that ye may obtain it.

25 Y todo el que compite en los juegos se abstiene de todo. Ellos lo hacen para recibir una corona corruptible, pero nosotros, una incorruptible.

And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we, an incorruptible one.

26 P or tanto, yo de esta manera corro, no como sin tener meta; de esta manera peleo, no como dando golpes al aire,

I therefore so run, not as unto an uncertain thing; so I fight, not as one that beats the air;

27 s ino que golpeo mi cuerpo y lo hago mi esclavo, no sea que habiendo predicado a otros, yo mismo sea descalificado.

but I keep my body under, and bring it into subjection, lest preaching to others, I myself should become reprobate.
