1 O íd, hijos, la instrucción de un padre, y prestad atención para que ganéis entendimiento,

¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding.

2 p orque os doy buena enseñanza; no abandonéis mi instrucción.

For I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law.

3 T ambién yo fui hijo para mi padre, tierno y único a los ojos de mi madre,

For I was my father’s son, tender and unique in the sight of my mother.

4 y él me enseñaba y me decía: Retenga tu corazón mis palabras, guarda mis mandamientos y vivirás.

He taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live.

5 A dquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia; no te olvides ni te apartes de las palabras de mi boca.

Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 N o la abandones y ella velará sobre ti, ámala y ella te protegerá.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 L o principal es la sabiduría; adquiere sabiduría, y con todo lo que obtengas adquiere inteligencia.

Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 E stímala, y ella te ensalzará; ella te honrará si tú la abrazas;

Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

9 g uirnalda de gracia pondrá en tu cabeza, corona de hermosura te entregará.

She shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 O ye, hijo mío, recibe mis palabras, y muchos serán los años de tu vida.

Hear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

11 P or el camino de la sabiduría te he conducido, por sendas de rectitud te he guiado.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths.

12 C uando andes, tus pasos no serán obstruidos, y si corres, no tropezarás.

When thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 A férrate a la instrucción, no la sueltes; guárdala, porque ella es tu vida.

Take fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

14 N o entres en la senda de los impíos, ni vayas por el camino de los malvados.

¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 E vítalo, no pases por él; apártate de él y pasa adelante.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 P orque ellos no duermen a menos que hagan el mal, y pierden el sueño si no han hecho caer a alguno.

For they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall.

17 P orque comen pan de maldad, y beben vino de violencia.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 M as la senda de los justos es como la luz de la aurora, que va aumentando en resplandor hasta que es pleno día.

But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

19 E l camino de los impíos es como las tinieblas, no saben en qué tropiezan.

The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

20 H ijo mío, presta atención a mis palabras, inclina tu oído a mis razones;

¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words.

21 q ue no se aparten de tus ojos, guárdalas en medio de tu corazón.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 P orque son vida para los que las hallan, y salud para todo su cuerpo.

For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

23 C on toda diligencia guarda tu corazón, porque de él brotan los manantiales de la vida.

Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

24 A parta de ti la boca perversa, y aleja de ti los labios falsos.

Put away from thee the perversion of the mouth, and the deviation of the lips put far from thee.

25 M iren tus ojos hacia adelante, y que tu mirada se fíje en lo que está frente a ti.

Let thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee.

26 F íjate en el sendero de tus pies, y todos tus caminos serán establecidos.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 N o te desvíes a la derecha ni a la izquierda; aparta tu pie del mal.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
