1 E ntonces respondió Bildad suhita, y dijo:

¶ Then Bildad, the Shuhite, answered and said,

2 ¿ Hasta cuándo hablarás estas cosas, y serán viento impetuoso las palabras de tu boca ?

How long wilt thou speak such things and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

3 ¿ Acaso tuerce Dios la justicia o tuerce el Todopoderoso lo que es justo ?

Shall God pervert that which is right or shall the Almighty pervert justice?

4 S i tus hijos pecaron contra El, entonces El los entregó al poder de su transgresión.

Because thy sons sinned against him, he cast them away in the place of their rebellion;

5 S i tú buscaras a Dios e imploraras la misericordia del Todopoderoso,

if thou would seek God early and make thy supplication to the Almighty,

6 s i fueras puro y recto, ciertamente El se despertaría ahora en tu favor y restauraría tu justa condición.

if thou wert pure and upright, surely now he would awake upon thee and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

7 A unque tu principio haya sido insignificante, con todo, tu final aumentará sobremanera.

In such a way that thy beginning would have been small, in comparison to the great increase of thy latter.

8 P regunta, te ruego, a las generaciones pasadas, y considera las cosas escudriñadas por sus padres.

¶ Ask, I pray thee, of the former age, and be willing to enquire of thy fathers regarding them;

9 P orque nosotros somos de ayer y nada sabemos, pues nuestros días sobre la tierra son como una sombra.

for we are but of yesterday and know nothing because our days upon earth are as a shadow.

10 ¿ No te instruirán ellos y te hablarán, y de sus corazones sacarán palabras?

Shall they not teach thee and tell thee and utter these words out of their heart?

11 ¿ Puede crecer el papiro sin cenagal? ¿Puede el junco crecer sin agua?

Can the rush grow up without mire? Can the meadow grow without water?

12 E stando aún verde y sin cortar, con todo, se seca antes que cualquier otra planta.

Whilst it is yet in its greenness and not cut down, it withers before any other herb.

13 A sí son las sendas de todos los que se olvidan de Dios, y la esperanza del impío perecerá,

So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish.

14 p orque es frágil su confianza, y una tela de araña su seguridad.

For his hope shall be cut off, and his trust is a spider’s web.

15 C onfía en su casa, pero ésta no se sostiene; se aferra a ella, pero ésta no perdura.

He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

16 C rece con vigor delante del sol, y sus renuevos brotan sobre su jardín.

Like a tree, he is green before the sun, and his branches go forth over his garden;

17 S us raíces se entrelazan sobre un montón de rocas; vive en una casa de piedras.

his roots weave themselves around a spring and secure themselves even in a stony place.

18 S i se le arranca de su lugar, éste le negará, diciendo: “Nunca te vi.”

If he is uprooted from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

19 H e aquí, este es el gozo de su camino; y del polvo brotarán otros.

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth from where he was transplanted, others shall grow.

20 H e aquí, Dios no rechaza al íntegro, ni sostiene a los malhechores.

¶ Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man; neither will he help the evil doers.

21 A ún ha de llenar de risa tu boca, y tus labios de gritos de júbilo.

He will yet fill thy mouth with laughing and thy lips with shouts of joy.

22 L os que te odian serán cubiertos de vergüenza, y la tienda de los impíos no existirá más.

Those that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
