1 P alabra que habló el profeta Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, cuando éste escribió estas palabras en un libro al dictado de Jeremías, en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, diciendo:

¶ The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

2 A sí dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, acerca de ti, oh Baruc:

Thus hath the LORD, the God of Israel said unto thee, O Baruch:

3 “ Tú dijiste: ‘¡Ay, infeliz de mí!, porque el Señor ha añadido tristeza a mi dolor. Cansado estoy de gemir y no he hallado reposo.’”

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD has added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I have found no rest.

4 A sí le dirás: “Así dice el Señor: ‘He aquí, lo que he edificado, lo derribo, y lo que he plantado, lo arranco, es decir, toda esta tierra.’

Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD said thus: Behold, I destroy those whom I have built up and those whom I have planted I pluck up, even this whole land.

5 “ Pero tú, ¿buscas para ti grandes cosas ? No las busques; porque he aquí, voy a traer calamidad sobre toda carne ” —declara el Señor — “pero a ti te daré tu vida por botín en todos los lugares adonde vayas.”

And dost thou seek great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I bring evil upon all flesh, said the LORD: but I will give thee thy life as a spoil of battle in all places where thou goest.
