1 H uid, hijos de Benjamín, de en medio de Jerusalén; tocad trompeta en Tecoa, y alzad señal sobre Bet-haquerem, porque desde el norte se asoma el mal y una gran destrucción.

¶ O ye sons of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem and blow the shofar in Tekoa and set up as a sign smoke in Bethhaccerem; for evil appears out of the north wind and great destruction.

2 A la hermosa y delicada hija de Sion destruiré.

I shall liken the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

3 A ella vendrán pastores con sus rebaños, levantarán sus tiendas a su alrededor, y cada uno apacentará en su lugar.

The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed each one his portion.

4 P reparad guerra contra ella; levantaos y ataquemos al mediodía. ¡Ay de nosotros, porque el día declina, porque se extienden las sombras del anochecer!

Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up towards the south. Woe unto us! for the day goes away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

5 L evantaos, ataquemos de noche y destruyamos sus palacios.

Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

6 P orque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: Cortad sus árboles, y poned sitio contra Jerusalén. Esta es la ciudad que ha de ser castigada, todo dentro de ella es opresión.

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Hew ye down trees and cast a mount against Jerusalem; this is the city that all of her is to be visited; there is violence in the midst of her.

7 C omo un pozo mantiene frescas sus aguas, así ella mantiene fresca su maldad. En ella se oyen violencia y destrucción; ante mí hay de continuo enfermedades y heridas.

As the waters never cease to flow from a fountain, so her wickedness never ceases to flow; injustice and robbery is heard in her; in my presence continually, sickness and wounds.

8 S é precavida, oh Jerusalén, no sea que mi alma se aleje de ti; no sea que yo te convierta en desolación, en tierra despoblada.

Chastise Jerusalem lest peradventure my soul be disjointed from thee, lest peradventure I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

9 A sí dice el Señor de los ejércitos: Buscarán, rebuscarán como en una vid el remanente de Israel; vuelve a pasar tu mano como el vendimiador por los sarmientos.

¶ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine; turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

10 ¿ A quiénes hablaré y advertiré, para que oigan? He aquí, sus oídos están cerrados, y no pueden escuchar. He aquí, la palabra del Señor les es oprobio; no se deleitan en ella.

To whom shall I speak, and give warning that they may hear? behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken, behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

11 P ero yo estoy lleno del furor del Señor, estoy cansado de retener lo. Derráma lo sobre los niños en la calle, y sobre la reunión de los jóvenes; porque serán apresados tanto el marido como la mujer, el viejo y el muy anciano.

Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I have worked hard to hold myself in from pouring it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for the husband with the wife shall also be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

12 Y sus casas serán entregadas a otros, juntamente con sus campos y sus mujeres; porque extenderé mi mano contra los habitantes de esta tierra —declara el Señor.

And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

13 P orque desde el menor hasta el mayor, todos ellos codician ganancias, y desde el profeta hasta el sacerdote, todos practican el engaño.

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them each one is given to greed; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

14 Y curan a la ligera el quebranto de mi pueblo, diciendo: “Paz, paz”, pero no hay paz.

They treat also the destruction of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15 ¿ Se han avergonzado de la abominación que han cometido? Ciertamente no se han avergonzado, ni aun han sabido ruborizarse; por tanto caerán entre los que caigan; en la hora que yo los castigue serán derribados —dice el Señor.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? no, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush; therefore, they shall fall among those that shall fall: at the time that I visit them they shall fall, saith the LORD.

16 A sí dice el Señor: Paraos en los caminos y mirad, y preguntad por los senderos antiguos cuál es el buen camino, y andad por él; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas. Pero dijeron: “No andaremos en él.”

Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17 Y puse centinelas sobre vosotros, que dijeran: “Escuchad el sonido de la trompeta.” Pero dijeron: “No escucharemos.”

Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the shofar. But they said, We will not hearken.

18 P or tanto, oíd, naciones, y entiende, congregación, lo que se hará entre ellos.

¶ Therefore hear, ye Gentiles, and know, O congregation of Gentiles.

19 O ye, tierra: he aquí, yo traigo una calamidad sobre este pueblo, el fruto de sus planes, porque no han escuchado mis palabras, y han desechado mi ley.

Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts because they have not hearkened unto my words, and they hated my law.

20 ¿ Para qué viene a mí este incienso de Sabá, y la dulce caña de una tierra lejana? Vuestros holocaustos no son aceptables, y vuestros sacrificios no me agradan.

To what purpose does this incense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not according to my will, nor are your sacrifices sweet unto me.

21 P or tanto, así dice el Señor: He aquí, pongo piedras de tropiezo delante de este pueblo, y tropezarán en ellas padres e hijos a una; el vecino y su prójimo perecerán.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

22 A sí dice el Señor: He aquí, viene un pueblo de tierras del norte, y una gran nación se levantará de los confines de la tierra.

Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, a people come from the land of the north wind, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

23 E mpuñan arco y jabalina, crueles son, no tienen misericordia; sus voces braman como el mar, y montan a caballo como hombres dispuestos para la guerra contra ti, hija de Sion.

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and they shall have no mercy; their voice shall roar like the sea; and they shall ride upon horses set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

24 H emos oído de su fama, flaquean nuestras manos. La angustia se ha apoderado de nosotros, dolor como de mujer de parto.

We have heard the fame thereof; our hands wax feeble; anguish has taken hold of us, and pain as of a woman in travail.

25 N o salgas al campo, ni andes por el camino; porque espada tiene el enemigo, y hay terror por todas partes.

Do not go forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

26 H ija de mi pueblo, cíñete el cilicio y revuélcate en ceniza; haz duelo como por hijo único, lamento de gran amargura, porque de pronto el destructor vendrá sobre nosotros.

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth and wallow thyself in ashes; make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

27 T e he puesto como observador y como examinador entre mi pueblo, para que conozcas y examines su conducta.

I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people; thou shalt know and examine their way.

28 T odos ellos son rebeldes obstinados que andan calumniando. Son hierro y bronce; todos ellos están corrompidos.

They are all rebellious princes; they walk with deception: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29 E l fuelle sopla con furor, el plomo es consumido por el fuego; en vano se sigue refinando, pues los malvados no son separados.

The bellows are burned; the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melts in vain; for the wicked are not plucked away.

30 L os llaman plata de deshecho, porque el Señor los ha desechado.

Reprobate silver shall men call them because the LORD has rejected them.
