1 ¶ Y vino David a Nob, a Ahimelec sacerdote; y Ahimelec salió a recibirlo con miedo, y le dijo: ¿Cómo vienes tú solo, y nadie contigo?

Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?”

2 Y respondió David al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me encomendó un negocio, y me dijo: Nadie sepa cosa alguna de este negocio a que yo te envío, y que yo te he mandado; y yo les señalé a los criados un cierto lugar.

David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commissioned me with a matter and has said to me, ‘ Let no one know anything about the matter on which I am sending you and with which I have commissioned you; and I have directed the young men to a certain place.’

3 A hora, pues, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes en mi mano, o lo que se hallare.

Now therefore, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever can be found.”

4 Y el sacerdote respondió a David, y dijo: No tengo pan común a la mano; solamente tengo pan sagrado; mas lo daré si los criados se han guardado a lo menos de mujeres.

The priest answered David and said, “There is no ordinary bread on hand, but there is consecrated bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”

5 Y David respondió al sacerdote, y le dijo: Cierto las mujeres nos han sido vedadas desde ayer y desde anteayer cuando salí, y los vasos de los mozos fueron santos, aunque el camino es profano; cuanto más que hoy será santificado con los vasos.

David answered the priest and said to him, “ Surely women have been kept from us as previously when I set out and the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was an ordinary journey; how much more then today will their vessels be holy ?”

6 A sí el sacerdote le dio el pan sagrado, porque allí no había otro pan que los panes de la proposición, los cuales habían sido quitados de delante del SEÑOR, para que se pusieran panes calientes el día que los otros fueron quitados.

So the priest gave him consecrated bread; for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence which was removed from before the Lord, in order to put hot bread in its place when it was taken away.

7 A quel día estaba allí uno de los siervos de Saúl cumpliendo algún voto delante del SEÑOR, el nombre del cual era Doeg, idumeo, principal de los pastores de Saúl.

Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul’s shepherds.

8 Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano lanza o espada? Porque no tomé en mi mano mi espada ni mis armas, por cuanto el mandamiento del rey era apremiante.

David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there not a spear or a sword on hand? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s matter was urgent.”

9 Y el sacerdote respondió: La espada de Goliat el filisteo, que tú venciste en el valle del Alcornoque, está aquí envuelta en un velo detrás del efod; si tú quieres tomarla, tómala; porque aquí no hay otra sino esa. Y dijo David: No hay otra tal; dámela.

Then the priest said, “ The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you would take it for yourself, take it. For there is no other except it here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

10 ¶ Y levantándose David aquel día, huyó de la presencia de Saúl, y se fue a Aquis rey de Gat.

Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.

11 Y los siervos de Aquis le dijeron: ¿No es éste David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No es éste a quien cantaban en los corros, diciendo: Hirió Saúl sus miles, y David sus diez miles?

But the servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of this one as they danced, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands’?”

12 Y David puso en su corazón estas palabras, y tuvo gran temor de Aquis rey de Gat.

David took these words to heart and greatly feared Achish king of Gath.

13 Y mudó su habla delante de ellos, y fingió ser demente entre las manos de ellos, y escribía en las portadas de las puertas, dejando correr su saliva por su barba.

So he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.

14 Y dijo Aquis a sus siervos: He aquí, estáis viendo un hombre demente; ¿por qué lo habéis traído a mí?

Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man behaving as a madman. Why do you bring him to me?

15 ¿ Acaso me faltan dementes, para que hayáis traído éste que hiciera locuras delante de mí? ¿había de venir éste a mi casa?

Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this one to act the madman in my presence? Shall this one come into my house?”
