1 ¶ Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían muchísimo ganado; los cuales viendo la tierra de Jazer y de Galaad, les pareció el lugar, lugar de ganado.

Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had an exceedingly large number of livestock. So when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that it was indeed a place suitable for livestock,

2 Y vinieron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, y hablaron a Moisés, y a Eleazar el sacerdote, y a los príncipes de la congregación, diciendo:

the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,

3 A tarot, Dibón, Jazer, Nimra, Hesbón, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo, y Beón,

“ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,

4 l a tierra que el SEÑOR hirió delante de la congregación de Israel, es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.

the land which the Lord conquered before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”

5 P or tanto, dijeron, si hallamos gracia en tus ojos, dése esta tierra a tus siervos en heredad, y no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.

They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession; do not take us across the Jordan.”

6 Y respondió Moisés a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Rubén: ¿Vendrán vuestros hermanos a la guerra, y vosotros os quedaréis aquí?

But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you yourselves sit here?

7 ¿ Y por qué desanimáis el corazón de los hijos de Israel, para que no pasen a la tierra que les ha dado el SEÑOR?

Now why are you discouraging the sons of Israel from crossing over into the land which the Lord has given them?

8 A sí hicieron vuestros padres, cuando los envié desde Cades-barnea para que vieran la tierra.

This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.

9 C uando subieron hasta la arroyada de Escol, y vieron la tierra desanimaron el corazón de los hijos de Israel, para no venir a la tierra que el SEÑOR les había dado.

For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the sons of Israel so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

10 Y el furor del SEÑOR se encendió entonces, y juró diciendo:

So the Lord’s anger burned in that day, and He swore, saying,

11 Q ue no verán los varones que subieron de Egipto de veinte años arriba, la tierra por la cual juré a Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, por cuanto no fueron perfectos en pos de mí;

‘ None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully,

12 e xcepto Caleb, hijo de Jefone cenezeo, y Josué hijo de Nun, que fueron perfectos en pos del SEÑOR.

except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have followed the Lord fully.’

13 Y el furor del SEÑOR se encendió en Israel, y los hizo andar errantes cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que fue acabada toda aquella generación, que había hecho mal delante del SEÑOR.

So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the Lord was destroyed.

14 Y he aquí, vosotros habéis levantado en lugar de vuestros padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún a la ira del SEÑOR contra Israel.

Now behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to add still more to the burning anger of the Lord against Israel.

15 S i os volviereis de en pos de él, él volverá otra vez a dejaros en el desierto, y echaréis a perder a todo este pueblo.

For if you turn away from following Him, He will once more abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.”

16 ¶ Entonces ellos vinieron a él y dijeron: Edificaremos aquí majadas para nuestro ganado, y ciudades para nuestros niños;

Then they came near to him and said, “We will build here sheepfolds for our livestock and cities for our little ones;

17 y nosotros nos armaremos, e iremos con diligencia delante de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los metamos en su lugar; y nuestros niños quedarán en ciudades fuertes a causa de los moradores de la tierra.

but we ourselves will be armed ready to go before the sons of Israel, until we have brought them to their place, while our little ones live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 N o volveremos a nuestras casas hasta que los hijos de Israel posean cada uno su heredad.

We will not return to our homes until every one of the sons of Israel has possessed his inheritance.

19 P orque no tomaremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán ni adelante, por cuanto tendremos ya nuestra heredad de este lado del Jordán al oriente.

For we will not have an inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of the Jordan toward the east.”

20 E ntonces les respondió Moisés: Si lo hiciereis así, si os apercibiereis para ir delante del SEÑOR a la guerra,

So Moses said to them, “If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for the war,

21 y pasaréis todos vosotros armados el Jordán delante del SEÑOR, hasta que haya echado a sus enemigos de delante de sí,

and all of you armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven His enemies out from before Him,

22 y que la tierra sea sojuzgada delante del SEÑOR; luego volveréis, y seréis sin culpa para con el SEÑOR, y para con Israel; y esta tierra será vuestra en heredad delante del SEÑOR.

and the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you shall return and be free of obligation toward the Lord and toward Israel, and this land shall be yours for a possession before the Lord.

23 M as si así no lo hiciereis, he aquí habréis pecado ante el SEÑOR; y sabed que vuestro pecado os alcanzará.

But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.

24 E dificaos ciudades para vuestros niños, y majadas para vuestras ovejas, y haced lo que ha salido de vuestra boca.

Build yourselves cities for your little ones, and sheepfolds for your sheep, and do what you have promised.”

25 Y hablaron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén a Moisés, diciendo: Tus siervos harán como mi señor ha mandado.

The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do just as my lord commands.

26 N uestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros ganados, y todas nuestras bestias, estarán ahí en las ciudades de Galaad;

Our little ones, our wives, our livestock and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;

27 y tus siervos, armados todos de guerra, pasarán delante del SEÑOR a la guerra, de la manera que nuestro señor dice.

while your servants, everyone who is armed for war, will cross over in the presence of the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”

28 ¶ Entonces los encomendó Moisés a Eleazar el sacerdote, y a Josué hijo de Nun, y a los príncipes de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.

So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

29 Y les dijo Moisés: Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, pasaren con vosotros el Jordán, armados todos de guerra delante del SEÑOR, luego que la tierra fuere sojuzgada delante de vosotros, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en posesión.

Moses said to them, “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, everyone who is armed for battle, will cross with you over the Jordan in the presence of the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;

30 M as si no pasaren armados con vosotros, entonces tendrán posesión entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán.

but if they will not cross over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”

31 Y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén respondieron, diciendo: Haremos lo que el SEÑOR ha dicho a tus siervos.

The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do.

32 N osotros pasaremos armados delante del SEÑOR a la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad será de este lado del Jordán.

We ourselves will cross over armed in the presence of the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us across the Jordan.”

33 A sí les dio Moisés a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Rubén, y a la media tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón rey amorreo, y el reino de Og rey de Basán, la tierra con sus ciudades y términos, las ciudades de la tierra alrededor.

So Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Joseph’s son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land with its cities with their territories, the cities of the surrounding land.

34 Y los hijos de Gad edificaron Dibón, Atarot, Aroer,

The sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,

35 A tarot-sofán, Jazer, Jogbeha,

and Atroth-shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah,

36 B et-nimra, y a Bet-arán, ciudades fuertes, y también majadas para ovejas.

and Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran as fortified cities, and sheepfolds for sheep.

37 Y los hijos de Rubén edificaron Hesbón, Eleale, Quiriataim,

The sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kiriathaim,

38 N ebo, Baal-meón, (mudados los nombres), y a Sibma, y pusieron nombres a las ciudades que edificaron.

and Nebo and Baal-meon— their names being changed—and Sibmah, and they gave other names to the cities which they built.

39 Y los hijos de Maquir hijo de Manasés fueron a Galaad, y la tomaron, y echaron al amorreo que estaba en ella.

The sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.

40 Y Moisés dio Galaad a Maquir hijo de Manasés, el cual habitó en ella.

So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.

41 T ambién Jair hijo de Manasés fue y tomó sus aldeas, y les puso por nombre Havot-jair.

Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth-jair.

42 A simismo Noba fue y tomó a Kenat y sus aldeas, y lo llamó Noba, conforme a su nombre.

Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah after his own name.
