1 ¶ Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado fe igualmente preciosa con nosotros en la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo:

Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

2 G racia y paz os sea multiplicada en el conocimiento de Dios, y de nuestro Señor Jesús.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

3 C omo todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos son dadas de su divina potencia, por el conocimiento de aquel que nos ha llamado por su gloria y virtud,

seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

4 p or las cuales nos son dadas preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas fuerais hechos participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que está en el mundo por la concupiscencia.

For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

5 ¶ Vosotros también, poniendo toda diligencia en esto mismo, mostrad en vuestra fe, virtud; y en la virtud, ciencia;

Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,

6 y en la ciencia, templanza; y en la templanza, paciencia; y en la paciencia, temor de Dios;

and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,

7 y en el temor de Dios, amor fraternal; y en el amor fraternal, caridad.

and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.

8 P orque si en vosotros hay estas cosas, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos, ni estériles en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 P ero el que no tiene estas cosas, es ciego, y anda tentando el camino con la mano, habiendo olvidado de la purgación de sus antiguos pecados.

For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

10 P or lo cual, hermanos, procurad tanto más de hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.

Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;

11 P orque de esta manera os será abundantemente administrada la entrada en el Reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

12 ¶ Por esto, yo no dejaré de amonestaros siempre de estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.

Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.

13 P orque tengo por justo, (en tanto que estoy en este tabernáculo), de incitaros con amonestación,

I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,

14 s abiendo que brevemente tengo que dejar este mi tabernáculo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.

knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

15 T ambién yo procuraré con diligencia, que después de mi fallecimiento, vosotros podáis tener memoria de estas cosas.

And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. Eyewitnesses

16 ¶ Porque nosotros no os hemos dado a conocer la potencia y la venida de nuestro Señor, Jesucristo, siguiendo fábulas por arte compuestas; sino como habiendo visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad.

For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

17 P orque él había recibido de Dios el Padre honra y gloria, cuando una tal voz fue a él enviada de la magnífica gloria: Este es el amado Hijo mío, en el cual yo me he agradado.

For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—

18 Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos juntamente con él en el Monte Santo.

and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 ¶ Tenemos también la palabra de los profetas más firme, a la cual hacéis bien de estar atentos como a una lámpara que alumbra en lugar oscuro, hasta que el día esclarezca, y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones.

So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.

20 E ntendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de particular interpretación;

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,

21 p orque la profecía no fue en los tiempos pasados traída por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados del Espíritu Santo.

for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
