1 ¶ Y el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: No temas, ni desmayes; toma contigo toda la gente de guerra, y levántate y sube a Hai. Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano al rey de Hai, y a su pueblo, a su ciudad, y a su tierra.

Now the Lord said to Joshua, “ Do not fear or be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.

2 Y harás a Hai y a su rey como hiciste a Jericó y a su rey; sólo que sus despojos y sus bestias tomaréis para vosotros. Pondrás, pues, emboscadas a la ciudad detrás de ella.

You shall do to Ai and its king just as you did to Jericho and its king; you shall take only its spoil and its cattle as plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”

3 ¶ Y se levantó Josué, y toda la gente de guerra, para subir contra Hai; y escogió Josué treinta mil hombres fuertes de valor, los cuales envió de noche.

So Joshua rose with all the people of war to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose 30, 000 men, valiant warriors, and sent them out at night.

4 Y les mandó, diciendo: Mirad, pondréis emboscada a la ciudad detrás de ella; no os alejaréis mucho de la ciudad, y estaréis todos apercibidos.

He commanded them, saying, “See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.

5 Y yo, y todo el pueblo que está conmigo, nos acercaremos a la ciudad; y cuando salgan ellos contra nosotros, como hicieron antes, huiremos delante de ellos,

Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out to meet us as at the first, we will flee before them.

6 ( porque saldrán tras nosotros,) hasta que los arranquemos de la ciudad; porque ellos dirán: Huyen de nosotros como la primera vez. Huiremos, pues, delante de ellos.

They will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, ‘ They are fleeing before us as at the first.’ So we will flee before them.

7 E ntonces vosotros os levantaréis de la emboscada, y poseeréis la ciudad; pues el SEÑOR vuestro Dios la entregará en vuestras manos.

And you shall rise from your ambush and take possession of the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.

8 Y cuando la hubiereis tomado, le prenderéis fuego. Haréis conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR. Mirad que os lo he mandado.

Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do it according to the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you.”

9 E ntonces Josué los envió; y ellos se fueron a la emboscada, y se pusieron entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de Hai; y Josué se quedó aquella noche en medio del pueblo.

So Joshua sent them away, and they went to the place of ambush and remained between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua spent that night among the people.

10 Y levantándose Josué muy de mañana, contó al pueblo, y subió él, con los ancianos de Israel, delante del pueblo contra Hai.

Now Joshua rose early in the morning and mustered the people, and he went up with the elders of Israel before the people to Ai.

11 Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió, y se acercó, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y asentaron el campamento a la parte del norte de Hai; y el valle estaba entre él y Hai.

Then all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near and arrived in front of the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.

12 Y tomó como cinco mil hombres, y los puso en emboscada entre Bet-el y Hai, a la parte occidental de la ciudad.

And he took about 5, 000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.

13 Y el pueblo, todo el campamento que estaba al lado del norte, se acercó a la ciudad; y su emboscada al occidente de la ciudad. Y Josué fue aquella noche al medio del valle.

So they stationed the people, all the army that was on the north side of the city, and its rear guard on the west side of the city, and Joshua spent that night in the midst of the valley.

14 L o cual cuando vio el rey de Hai, se levantó prestamente de mañana, y salió con los hombres de la ciudad contra Israel para pelear, él y todo su pueblo en un tiempo señalado, por el llano, no sabiendo que le estaba puesta emboscada a las espaldas de la ciudad.

It came about when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out to meet Israel in battle, he and all his people at the appointed place before the desert plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

15 E ntonces Josué y todo Israel, como vencidos, huyeron delante de ellos por el camino del desierto.

Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

16 Y todo el pueblo que estaba en Hai fueron llamados a juntarsen para seguirlos; y siguieron a Josué, siendo así arrancados de la ciudad.

And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.

17 Y no quedó hombre en Hai y Bet-el, que no saliera tras de Israel; y por seguir a Israel dejaron la ciudad abierta.

So not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who had not gone out after Israel, and they left the city unguarded and pursued Israel.

18 E ntonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Levanta la lanza que tienes en tu mano hacia Hai, porque yo la entregaré en tu mano. Y Josué levantó la lanza que tenía en su mano, hacia la ciudad.

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “ Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” So Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

19 Y levantándose prestamente de su lugar los que estaban en la emboscada corrieron, cuando él alzó su mano, y vinieron a la ciudad, y la tomaron, y se apresuraron a prenderle fuego.

The men in ambush rose quickly from their place, and when he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered the city and captured it, and they quickly set the city on fire.

20 Y cuando los hombres de Hai miraron atrás, observaron, y he aquí el humo de la ciudad que subía al cielo, y no tuvieron poder para huir ni a una parte ni a otra; y el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto, se volvió contra los que le seguían.

When the men of Ai turned back and looked, behold, the smoke of the city ascended to the sky, and they had no place to flee this way or that, for the people who had been fleeing to the wilderness turned against the pursuers.

21 E ntonces Josué y todo Israel, viendo que los de la emboscada habían tomado la ciudad; y que el humo de la ciudad subía, se volvieron, e hirieron a los de Hai.

When Joshua and all Israel saw that the men in ambush had captured the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned back and slew the men of Ai.

22 Y los otros salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro; y así fueron encerrados en medio de Israel, los unos por un lado, y los otros por la otra. Y así los hirieron hasta que no quedó ninguno de ellos que escapara.

The others came out from the city to encounter them, so that they were trapped in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side; and they slew them until no one was left of those who survived or escaped.

23 ¶ Y tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y lo trajeron a Josué.

But they took alive the king of Ai and brought him to Joshua.

24 Y cuando los israelitas acabaron de matar a todos los moradores de Hai en el campo, en el desierto, donde ellos los habían perseguido, y que todos habían caído a filo de espada hasta ser consumidos, todos los israelitas volvieron a Hai, y también la pusieron a espada.

Now when Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field in the wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them were fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.

25 Y el número de los que cayeron aquel día, hombres y mujeres, fue doce mil, todos los varones de Hai.

All who fell that day, both men and women, were 12, 000—all the people of Ai.

26 P orque Josué no retrajo su mano que había extendido con la lanza, hasta que hubo destruido a todos los moradores de Hai.

For Joshua did not withdraw his hand with which he stretched out the javelin until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

27 P ero los israelitas tomaron para sí las bestias y los despojos de la ciudad, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR que él había mandado a Josué.

Israel took only the cattle and the spoil of that city as plunder for themselves, according to the word of the Lord which He had commanded Joshua.

28 Y Josué quemó a Hai y la redujo a un montón perpetuo, asolado hasta hoy.

So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation until this day.

29 M as al rey de Hai lo colgó de un madero hasta la tarde; y cuando el sol se puso, mandó Josué que quitaran del madero su cuerpo, y lo echaran a la puerta de la ciudad; y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, hasta hoy.

He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening; and at sunset Joshua gave command and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the city gate, and raised over it a great heap of stones that stands to this day.

30 ¶ Entonces Josué edificó un altar al SEÑOR Dios de Israel en el monte de Ebal,

Then Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal,

31 c omo Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, lo había mandado a los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés; un altar de piedras enteras, sobre las cuales nadie alzó herramienta de hierro; y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos al SEÑOR, y sacrificaron ofrendas pacíficas.

just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones on which no man had wielded an iron tool; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.

32 T ambién escribió allí en piedras la repetición de la ley de Moisés, la cual él había escrito delante de los hijos de Israel.

He wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written, in the presence of the sons of Israel.

33 Y todo Israel, y sus ancianos, oficiales, y jueces, estaban a uno y otro lado junto al arca, delante de los sacerdotes levitas que llevan el arca del pacto del SEÑOR; así los extranjeros como los naturales, la mitad de ellos estaba hacia el monte de Gerizim, y la otra mitad hacia el monte de Ebal; de la manera que Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, lo había mandado antes, para que bendijeran al pueblo de Israel.

All Israel with their elders and officers and their judges were standing on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the stranger as well as the native. Half of them stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the Lord had given command at first to bless the people of Israel.

34 D espués de esto, hizo leer todas las palabras de la ley; las bendiciones y las maldiciones, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley.

Then afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

35 N o hubo palabra alguna de todas las cosas que mandó Moisés, que Josué no hiciera leer delante de toda la congregación de Israel, mujeres y niños, y extranjeros que andaban entre ellos.

There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel with the women and the little ones and the strangers who were living among them.
