1 D espués de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Senaquerib rey de los asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campamento contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó entrar en ellas.

After these acts of faithfulness Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and besieged the fortified cities, and thought to break into them for himself.

2 V iendo, pues, Ezequías la venida de Senaquerib, y su determinación de combatir a Jerusalén,

Now when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to make war on Jerusalem,

3 t uvo su consejo con sus príncipes y con sus valerosos, sobre cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.

he decided with his officers and his warriors to cut off the supply of water from the springs which were outside the city, and they helped him.

4 Y se juntó mucho pueblo, y taparon todas las fuentes, y también el arroyo que va por medio de la tierra, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vinieren?

So many people assembled and stopped up all the springs and the stream which flowed through the region, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find abundant water?”

5 S e fortaleció, pues, Ezequías, y edificó todos los muros caídos, e hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por fuera; fortificó además a Millo en la ciudad de David, e hizo muchas espadas y paveses.

And he took courage and rebuilt all the wall that had been broken down and erected towers on it, and built another outside wall and strengthened the Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in great number.

6 Y puso capitanes de guerra sobre el pueblo, y los hizo reunir así en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y les habló al corazón de ellos, diciendo:

He appointed military officers over the people and gathered them to him in the square at the city gate, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,

7 E sforzaos y confortaos; no temáis, ni tengáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más son con nosotros que con él.

“ Be strong and courageous, do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria nor because of all the horde that is with him; for the one with us is greater than the one with him.

8 C on él es el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros el SEÑOR nuestro Dios para ayudarnos, y pelear nuestras batallas. Y se afirmó el pueblo sobre las palabras de Ezequías rey de Judá.

With him is only an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. Sennacherib Undermines Hezekiah

9 ¶ Después de esto Senaquerib rey de los asirios, estando él sobre Laquis y con él toda su potencia, envió sus siervos a Jerusalén, para decir a Ezequías rey de Judá, y a todo Judá que estaba en Jerusalén:

After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem while he was besieging Lachish with all his forces with him, against Hezekiah king of Judah and against all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

10 A sí ha dicho Senaquerib rey de los asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros para estar cercados en Jerusalén?

“Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, ‘On what are you trusting that you are remaining in Jerusalem under siege?

11 ¿ No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a muerte, a hambre, y a sed, diciendo: El SEÑOR nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?

Is not Hezekiah misleading you to give yourselves over to die by hunger and by thirst, saying, “The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria”?

12 ¿ No es Ezequías el que ha quitado sus lugares altos y sus altares, y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis incienso?

Has not the same Hezekiah taken away His high places and His altars, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, “You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense”?

13 ¿ No habéis sabido lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de las tierras? ¿Pudieron por ventura los dioses de los gentiles de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?

Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands able at all to deliver their land from my hand?

14 ¿ Qué dios hubo de todos los dioses de aquellas gentiles que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiera librar su pueblo de mis manos? ¿Por qué podrá vuestro Dios salvaros de mi mano?

Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed who could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand?

15 A hora, pues, no os engañe Ezequías, ni os persuada de tal cosa, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?

Now therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?’”

16 Y otras cosas hablaron sus siervos contra el SEÑOR Dios, y contra su siervo Ezequías.

His servants spoke further against the Lord God and against His servant Hezekiah.

17 A demás de todo esto escribió letras en que blasfemaba al SEÑOR Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de los gentiles de los países no pudieron librar su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezequías librará al suyo de mis manos.

He also wrote letters to insult the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, “ As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand.”

18 Y clamaron a gran voz en judaico contra el pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.

They called this out with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them, so that they might take the city.

19 Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalén, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.

They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men’s hands. Hezekiah’s Prayer Is Answered

20 M as el rey Ezequías, y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amós, oraron por esto, y clamaron al cielo.

But King Hezekiah and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed about this and cried out to heaven.

21 Y el SEÑOR envió un ángel, el cual hirió a todo valiente de gran valor, y a los capitanes y a los príncipes en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Se volvió, por tanto, con vergüenza de rostro a su tierra; y entrando en la casa de su dios, allí le mataron a espada los que habían salido de sus entrañas.

And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed every mighty warrior, commander and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own children killed him there with the sword.

22 A sí salvó el SEÑOR a Ezequías y a los moradores de Jerusalén de las manos de Senaquerib rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos; y los guió en cuanto a todo.

So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

23 Y muchos trajeron presente al SEÑOR a Jerusalén; y a Ezequías rey de Judá, ricos dones; y fue muy grande delante de todos los gentiles después de esto.

And many were bringing gifts to the Lord at Jerusalem and choice presents to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations thereafter.

24 ¶ En aquel tiempo Ezequías enfermó de muerte; y oró al SEÑOR, el cual le respondió, y le dio una señal.

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill; and he prayed to the Lord, and the Lord spoke to him and gave him a sign.

25 M as Ezequías no pagó conforme al bien que le había sido hecho; antes se enalteció su corazón, y fue la ira contra él, y contra Judá y Jerusalén.

But Hezekiah gave no return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

26 P ero Ezequías, después de haberse enaltecido su corazón, se humilló, él y los moradores de Jerusalén; y no vino sobre ellos la ira del SEÑOR en los días de Ezequías.

However, Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 Y tuvo Ezequías riquezas y mucha gloria en gran manera; y se hizo tesoros de plata y oro, de piedras preciosas, de especias, de escudos, y de todos vasos de desear.

Now Hezekiah had immense riches and honor; and he made for himself treasuries for silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields and all kinds of valuable articles,

28 A simismo hizo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino, y del aceite; establos para toda suerte de bestias, y majadas para los ganados.

storehouses also for the produce of grain, wine and oil, pens for all kinds of cattle and sheepfolds for the flocks.

29 S e hizo también ciudades, y hatos de ovejas y de vacas en gran copia; porque Dios le había dado mucha hacienda.

He made cities for himself and acquired flocks and herds in abundance, for God had given him very great wealth.

30 E ste Ezequías tapó los manaderos de las aguas de Gihón la de arriba, y las encaminó abajo al occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fue prosperado Ezequías en todo lo que hizo.

It was Hezekiah who stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all that he did.

31 P ero a causa de los embajadores de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron a él para saber del prodigio que había acaecido en aquella tierra, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para hacer conocer todo lo que estaba en su corazón.

Even in the matter of the envoys of the rulers of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone only to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.

32 L os demás hechos de Ezequías, y de su misericordia, he aquí todo está escrito en la visión de Isaías, el profeta, hijo de Amós, y en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his deeds of devotion, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

33 Y durmió Ezequías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en los más insignes sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y los de Jerusalén; y reinó en su lugar Manasés su hijo.

So Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the upper section of the tombs of the sons of David; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honored him at his death. And his son Manasseh became king in his place.
