1 D ijo entonces Eliseo: Oíd palabra del SEÑOR: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Mañana a estas horas valdrá el seah de flor de harina un siclo, y dos seah de cebada un siclo, a la puerta de Samaria.

Then Elisha said, “Listen to the word of the Lord; thus says the Lord, ‘ Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.’”

2 Y un capitán sobre cuya mano el rey se apoyaba, respondió al varón de Dios, y dijo: Si el SEÑOR hiciera ahora ventanas en el cielo, ¿sería esto así? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello.

The royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning answered the man of God and said, “Behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” Then he said, “Behold, you will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat of it.” Four Lepers Relate Arameans’ Flight

3 Y había cuatro hombres leprosos a la entrada de la puerta, los cuales dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Para qué nos estamos aquí hasta que muramos?

Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, “Why do we sit here until we die?

4 S i hablaremos de entrar en la ciudad, por el hambre que hay en la ciudad moriremos en ella; y si nos quedamos aquí, también moriremos. Vamos, pues, ahora, y pasémonos al ejército de los Sirios; si ellos nos dieren la vida, viviremos; y si nos dieren la muerte, moriremos.

If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ then the famine is in the city and we will die there; and if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they spare us, we will live; and if they kill us, we will but die.”

5 S e levantaron, pues, en el principio de la noche, para irse al campamento de los sirios; y llegando a las primeras estancias de los sirios, no había allí hombre.

They arose at twilight to go to the camp of the Arameans; when they came to the outskirts of the camp of the Arameans, behold, there was no one there.

6 P orque el Señor había hecho que en el campamento de los sirios se oyera estruendo de carros, ruido de caballos, y estrépito de gran ejército; y se dijeron los unos a los otros: He aquí el rey de Israel ha pagado contra nosotros a los reyes de los heteos, y a los reyes de los egipcios, para que vengan contra nosotros.

For the Lord had caused the army of the Arameans to hear a sound of chariots and a sound of horses, even the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.”

7 Y así se habían levantado y huido al principio de la noche, dejando sus tiendas, sus caballos, sus asnos, y el campamento como se estaba; y habían huido para salvar las vidas.

Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents and their horses and their donkeys, even the camp just as it was, and fled for their life.

8 Y cuando los leprosos llegaron a las primeras estancias, entraron en una tienda, y comieron y bebieron, y tomaron de allí plata, oro, y vestido, y fueron, y lo escondieron; y vueltos, entraron en otra tienda, y de allí también tomaron, y fueron, y escondieron.

When these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they entered one tent and ate and drank, and carried from there silver and gold and clothes, and went and hid them; and they returned and entered another tent and carried from there also, and went and hid them.

9 Y se dijeron el uno al otro: No hacemos bien; hoy es día de dar la buena nueva, y nosotros callamos; y si esperamos hasta la luz de la mañana, seremos tomados en la iniquidad. Vamos pues, ahora, entremos y demos la nueva en casa del rey.

Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent; if we wait until morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king’s household.”

10 Y vinieron, y dieron voces a los guardas de la puerta de la ciudad, y les declararon, diciendo: Nosotros fuimos al campamento de los sirios, y he aquí que no había allí hombre, ni voz de hombre, sino los caballos atados, los asnos atados, y el campamento como estaba.

So they came and called to the gatekeepers of the city, and they told them, saying, “We came to the camp of the Arameans, and behold, there was no one there, nor the voice of man, only the horses tied and the donkeys tied, and the tents just as they were.”

11 Y los porteros dieron voces, y lo declararon dentro, en la casa del rey.

The gatekeepers called and told it within the king’s household.

12 Y se levantó el rey de noche, y dijo a sus siervos: Yo os declararé lo que nos han hecho los sirios. Ellos saben que tenemos hambre, y han salido de las tiendas y se han escondido en el campo, diciendo: Cuando hubieren salido de la ciudad, los tomaremos vivos, y entraremos en la ciudad.

Then the king arose in the night and said to his servants, “I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone from the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city.’”

13 E ntonces respondió uno de sus siervos, y dijo: Tomen ahora cinco de los caballos que han quedado en la ciudad, (porque ellos también son como toda la multitud de Israel que ha quedado en ella; también ellos son como toda la multitud de Israel que ha perecido); y enviemos, y veamos qué hay.

One of his servants said, “Please, let some men take five of the horses which remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they will be in any case like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it; behold, they will be in any case like all the multitude of Israel who have already perished, so let us send and see.”

14 T omaron pues dos caballos de un carro, y envió el rey tras el campamento de los sirios, diciendo: Id, y ved.

They took therefore two chariots with horses, and the king sent after the army of the Arameans, saying, “Go and see.” The Promise Fulfilled

15 Y ellos fueron, y los siguieron hasta el Jordán; y he aquí, todo el camino estaba lleno de vestidos y de vasos que los sirios habían arrojado con la premura. Y volvieron los mensajeros, y lo hicieron saber al rey.

They went after them to the Jordan, and behold, all the way was full of clothes and equipment which the Arameans had thrown away in their haste. Then the messengers returned and told the king.

16 E ntonces el pueblo salió, y saquearon el campamento, de los sirios. Y fue vendido un seah de flor de harina por un siclo, y dos seah de cebada por un siclo, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.

So the people went out and plundered the camp of the Arameans. Then a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

17 ¶ Y el rey puso a la puerta a aquel príncipe sobre cuya mano él se apoyaba; y le atropelló el pueblo a la entrada, y murió, conforme a lo que había dicho el varón de Dios, lo que habló cuando el rey descendió a él.

Now the king appointed the royal officer on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate; but the people trampled on him at the gate, and he died just as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

18 A conteció, pues, de la manera que el varón de Dios había hablado al rey, diciendo: Dos seah de cebada por un siclo, y el seah de flor de harina será vendido por un siclo mañana a estas horas, a la puerta de Samaria.

It happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “ Two measures of barley for a shekel and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, will be sold tomorrow about this time at the gate of Samaria.”

19 A lo cual aquel príncipe había respondido al varón de Dios, diciendo: Aunque el SEÑOR hiciera ventanas en el cielo, ¿pudiera ser eso? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello.

Then the royal officer answered the man of God and said, “Now behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he said, “Behold, you will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat of it.”

20 Y le sucedió así; porque el pueblo le atropelló a la entrada, y murió.

And so it happened to him, for the people trampled on him at the gate and he died.
