1 ¶ Y en los días de David hubo hambre por tres años consecutivos. Y David consultó al SEÑOR, y el SEÑOR le dijo: Es por Saúl, y por aquella casa de sangre; porque mató a los gabaonitas.

Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the presence of the Lord. And the Lord said, “It is for Saul and his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

2 E ntonces el rey llamó a los gabaonitas, y les habló. (Los gabaonitas no eran de los hijos de Israel, sino del residuo de los amorreos, a los cuales los hijos de Israel habían hecho juramento; mas Saúl había procurado matarlos con motivo de celo por los hijos de Israel y de Judá).

So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the sons of Israel made a covenant with them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah).

3 D ijo, pues, David a los gabaonitas: ¿Qué os haré, y con qué haré reconciliación para que bendigáis a la heredad del SEÑOR?

Thus David said to the Gibeonites, “What should I do for you? And how can I make atonement that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord ?”

4 Y los gabaonitas le respondieron: No tenemos nosotros pleito sobre plata ni sobre oro con Saúl, y con su casa; ni queremos que muera hombre de Israel. Y él les dijo: Lo que vosotros dijereis os haré.

Then the Gibeonites said to him, “ We have no concern of silver or gold with Saul or his house, nor is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” And he said, “I will do for you whatever you say.”

5 Y ellos respondieron al rey: Aquel hombre que nos destruyó, y que maquinó contra nosotros; asolaremos, que no quede nada de él en todo el término de Israel.

So they said to the king, “ The man who consumed us and who planned to exterminate us from remaining within any border of Israel,

6 D énsenos siete varones de sus hijos, para que los descoyuntamos colgándoles de un madero al SEÑOR en Gabaa de Saúl, el escogido del SEÑOR. Y el rey dijo: Yo los daré.

let seven men from his sons be given to us, and we will hang them before the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of the Lord.” And the king said, “I will give them.”

7 Y el rey libró a Mefi-boset, hijo de Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, por el juramento del SEÑOR que hubo entre ellos, entre David y Jonatán hijo de Saúl.

But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord which was between them, between David and Saul’s son Jonathan.

8 M as tomó el rey dos hijos de Rizpa hija de Aja, los cuales ella había dado a luz a Saúl, a saber, a Armoni y a Mefi-boset; y cinco hijos de Mical hija de Saúl, los cuales ella había dado a luz a Adriel, hijo de Barzilai, el meholatita;

So the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, Armoni and Mephibosheth whom she had borne to Saul, and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul, whom she had borne to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.

9 y los entregó en manos de los gabaonitas, y ellos los descoyuntaron colgándoles de un madero en el monte delante del SEÑOR; y murieron juntos aquellos siete, los cuales fueron muertos en el tiempo de la siega, en los primeros días, en el principio de la siega de las cebadas.

Then he gave them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before the Lord, so that the seven of them fell together; and they were put to death in the first days of harvest at the beginning of barley harvest.

10 ¶ Tomando luego Rizpa hija de Aja cilicio, se lo tendió sobre el peñasco, desde el principio de la siega hasta que llovió sobre ellos agua del cielo; y no dejó a ninguna ave del cielo asentarse sobre ellos de día, ni bestias del campo de noche.

And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until it rained on them from the sky; and she allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day nor the beasts of the field by night.

11 Y fue dicho a David lo que hacía Rizpa hija de Aja, concubina de Saúl.

When it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done,

12 E ntonces David fue, y tomó los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonatán su hijo, de los varones de Jabes de Galaad, que los habían hurtado de la plaza de Bet-sán, donde los habían colgado los filisteos, cuando deshicieron los filisteos a Saúl en Gilboa;

then David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the open square of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them on the day the Philistines struck down Saul in Gilboa.

13 y tomó los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonatán su hijo; y juntaron también los huesos de los descoyuntados que fueron colgados de un madero,

He brought up the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from there, and they gathered the bones of those who had been hanged.

14 y sepultaron los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonatán en tierra de Benjamín, en Sela, en el sepulcro de Cis su padre; e hicieron todo lo que el rey había mandado. Después se aplacó Dios con la tierra.

They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the grave of Kish his father; thus they did all that the king commanded, and after that God was moved by prayer for the land.

15 ¶ Y los filisteos volvieron a hacer la guerra a Israel, y David descendió y sus siervos con él, y pelearon con los filisteos; y David se cansó.

Now when the Philistines were at war again with Israel, David went down and his servants with him; and as they fought against the Philistines, David became weary.

16 E Isbi-benob, el cual era de los hijos del gigante, y el peso de cuya lanza era de trescientos siclos de bronce, y tenía él ceñida una nueva espada, este había determinado herir a David.

Then Ishbi-benob, who was among the descendants of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, was girded with a new sword, and he intended to kill David.

17 M as Abisai hijo de Sarvia le socorrió, e hirió al filisteo, y lo mató. Entonces los varones de David le juraron, diciendo: Nunca más de aquí en adelante saldrás con nosotros a batalla, para que no apagues la lámpara de Israel.

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “ You shall not go out again with us to battle, so that you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel.”

18 O tra segunda guerra hubo después en Gob contra los filisteos; entonces Sibecai, el husatita, hirió a Saf, que era de los hijos del gigante.

Now it came about after this that there was war again with the Philistines at Gob; then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Saph, who was among the descendants of the giant.

19 O tra guerra hubo en Gob contra los filisteos, en la cual Elhanán, hijo de Jaare-oregim de Belén, hirió a Goliat, el geteo, el asta de cuya lanza era como el rodillo de un telar.

There was war with the Philistines again at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

20 D espués hubo otra guerra en Gat, donde hubo un varón de grande altura, el cual tenía doce dedos en las manos, y otros doce en los pies, veinticuatro en todos; y también era de los hijos del gigante.

There was war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant.

21 E ste deshonró a Israel, y lo mató Jonatán, hijo de Simea hermano de David.

When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, struck him down.

22 E stos cuatro le habían nacido al gigante en Gat, los cuales cayeron por la mano de David, y por la mano de sus siervos.

These four were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
