1 M eus irmãos, não tenhais a fé em nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor da glória, em acepção de pessoas.

¶ My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus, the glorious Christ, with respect of persons.

2 P orque, se entrar na vossa reunião algum homem com anel de ouro no dedo e com traje esplêndido, e entrar também algum pobre com traje sórdido.

For if a man with a gold ring and in precious apparel comes into your synagogue and a poor person in vile raiment also comes in,

3 e atentardes para o que vem com traje esplêndido e lhe disserdes: Senta-te aqui num lugar de honra; e disserdes ao pobre: Fica em pé, ou senta-te abaixo do escabelo dos meus pés,

and ye have respect to him that wears the precious clothing and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool:

4 n ão fazeis, porventura, distinção entre vós mesmos e não vos tornais juízes movidos de maus pensamentos?

Are ye not then judging in yourselves and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 O uvi, meus amados irmãos. Não escolheu Deus os que são pobres quanto ao mundo para fazê-los ricos na fé e herdeiros do reino que prometeu aos que o amam?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

6 M as vós desonrastes o pobre. Porventura não são os ricos os que vos oprimem e os que vos arrastam aos tribunais?

But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

7 N ão blasfemam eles o bom nome pelo qual sois chamados?

Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by which ye are called?

8 T odavia, se estais cumprindo a lei real segundo a escritura: Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo, fazeis bem.

¶ If ye truly fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well;

9 M as se fazeis acepção de pessoas, cometeis pecado, sendo por isso condenados pela lei como transgressores.

but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin and are accused of the law as rebels.

10 P ois qualquer que guardar toda a lei, mas tropeçar em um só ponto, tem-se tornado culpado de todos.

For whosoever shall have kept the whole law, and then offends in one point is made guilty of all.

11 P orque o mesmo que disse: Não adulterarás, também disse: Não matarás. Ora, se não cometes adultério, mas és homicida, te hás tornado transgressor da lei.

For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not murder. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou commit murder, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 F alai de tal maneira e de tal maneira procedei, como havendo de ser julgados pela lei da liberdade.

So speak ye and so do as those that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 P orque o juízo será sem misericórdia para aquele que não usou de misericórdia; a misericórdia triunfa sobre o juízo.

For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

14 Q ue proveito há, meus irmãos se alguém disser que tem fé e não tiver obras? Porventura essa fé pode salvá-lo?

¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them?

15 S e um irmão ou uma irmã estiverem nus e tiverem falta de mantimento cotidiano.

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

16 e algum de vós lhes disser: Ide em paz, aquentai-vos e fartai-vos; e não lhes derdes as coisas necessárias para o corpo, que proveito há nisso?

and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

17 A ssim também a fé, se não tiver obras, é morta em si mesma.

Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself.

18 M as dirá alguém: Tu tens fé, e eu tenho obras; mostra-me a tua fé sem as obras, e eu te mostrarei a minha fé pelas minhas obras.

But someone may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

19 C rês tu que Deus é um só? Fazes bem; os demônios também o crêem, e estremecem.

Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe and tremble.

20 M as queres saber, ó homem vão, que a fé sem as obras é estéril?

But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

21 P orventura não foi pelas obras que nosso pai Abraão foi justificado quando ofereceu sobre o altar seu filho Isaque?

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?

22 V ês que a fé cooperou com as suas obras, e que pelas obras a fé foi aperfeiçoada;

Dost thou not see how the faith worked together with his works, and the faith was complete by the works?

23 e se cumpriu a escritura que diz: E creu Abraão a Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça, e foi chamado amigo de Deus.

And that the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.

24 V edes então que é pelas obras que o homem é justificado, e não somente pela fé.

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

25 E de igual modo não foi a meretriz Raabe também justificada pelas obras, quando acolheu os espias, e os fez sair por outro caminho?

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 P orque, assim como o corpo sem o espírito está morto, assim também a fé sem obras é morta.

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
