1 E Zedequias, filho de Josias, a quem Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, constituiu rei na terra de Judá, reinou em lugar de Conias, filho de Jeoiaquim.

¶ And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

2 M as nem ele, nem os seus servos, nem o povo da terra escutaram as palavras do Senhor que este falou por intermédio de Jeremias o profeta.

But neither he nor his slaves nor the people of the land hearkened unto the words of the LORD, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.

3 C ontudo mandou o rei Zedequias a Jeucal filho de Selemias, e a Sofonias, filho de Maaséias, o sacerdote, ao profeta Jeremias, para lhe dizerem: Roga agora por nós ao Senhor nosso Deus,

And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

4 O ra, Jeremias entrava e saía entre o povo; pois ainda não o tinham encerrado na prisão.

(Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

5 E o exército de Faraó saíra do Egito; quando, pois, os caldeus que estavam sitiando Jerusalém, ouviram esta notícia, retiraram-se de Jerusalém.

And as Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.)

6 E ntão veio a Jeremias, o profeta, a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

7 A ssim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: Assim direis ao rei de Judá, que vos enviou a mim, para me consultar: Eis que o exército de Faraó, que saiu em vosso socorro, voltará para a sua terra no Egito.

Thus hath the LORD, the God of Israel said; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which had come forth to help you, has returned to Egypt into their own land.

8 E voltarão os caldeus, e pelejarão contra esta cidade, e a tomarão, e a queimarão a fogo.

And the Chaldeans shall come again and fight against this city and take it and burn it with fire.

9 A ssim diz o Senhor: Não vos enganeis a vós mesmos, dizendo: Sem dúvida os caldeus se retirarão de nós; pois não se retirarão.

Thus hath the LORD said; Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans have surely departed from us; for they shall not depart.

10 P orque ainda que derrotásseis a todo o exército dos caldeus que peleja contra vós, e entre eles só ficassem homens feridos, contudo se levantariam, cada um na sua tenda, e queimariam a fogo esta cidade.

For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up each man from his tent and burn this city with fire.

11 O ra, quando se retirou de Jerusalém o exército dos caldeus, por causa do exército de Iearaó,

¶ And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

12 s aiu Jeremias de Jerusalém, a fim de ir ã terra de Benjamim, para receber ali a sua parte no meio do povo.

then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin to separate himself there in the midst of the people.

13 E quando ele estava ã porta de Benjamim, achava-se ali um capitão da guarda, cujo nome era Jurias, filho de Selemias, filho de Hananias, o qual prendeu a Jeremias, o profeta, dizendo: Tu estás desertando para os caldeus.

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

14 E Jeremias disse: Isso é falso, não estou desertando para os caldeus. Mas ele não lhe deu ouvidos, de modo que prendeu a Jeremias e o levou aos príncipes.

Then said Jeremiah It is false; I do not fall away to the Chaldeans. But he did not hearken to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15 E os príncipes ficaram muito irados contra Jeremias, de sorte que o açoitaram e o meteram no cárcere, na casa de Jônatas, o escrivão, porquanto a tinham transformado em cárcere.

Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah and smote him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.

16 T endo Jeremias entrado nas celas do calabouço, e havendo ficado ali muitos dias,

When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

17 o rei Zedequias mandou soltá-lo e lhe perguntou em sua casa, em segredo: Há alguma palavra da parte do Senhor? Respondeu Jeremias: Há. E acrescentou: Na mão do rei de Babilônia serás entregue.

then Zedekiah the king sent and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

18 D isse mais Jeremias ao rei Zedequias: Em que tenho pecado contra ti, e contra os teus servos, e contra este povo, para que me pusésseis na prisão?

Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, In what have I sinned against thee or against thy slaves or against this people that ye have put me in prison?

19 O nde estão agora os vossos profetas que vos profetizavam, dizendo: O rei de Babilônia não virá contra vós nem contra esta terra?

Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you nor against this land?

20 O ra, pois, ouve agora, ó rei, meu senhor: seja aceita agora a minha súplica diante de ti; não me faças tornar ã casa de Jônatas, o escriba, para que eu não venha a morrer ali.

Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

21 E ntão ordenou o rei Zedequias que pusessem a Jeremias no átrio da guarda; e deram-lhe um bolo de pão cada dia, da rua dos padeiros, até que se gastou todo o pão da cidade. Assim ficou Jeremias no átrio da guarda.

Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the guard and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
