1 D ai graças ao Senhor, porque ele é bom; porque a sua benignidade dura para sempre;

¶ O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever.

2 d igam-no os remidos do Senhor, os quais ele remiu da mão do inimigo,

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy

3 e os que congregou dentre as terras, do Oriente e do Ocidente, do Norte e do Sul.

and gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4 A ndaram desgarrados pelo deserto, por caminho ermo; não acharam cidade em que habitassem.

They wandered lost in the wilderness, alone and out of the way; they found no city to dwell in.

5 A ndavam famintos e sedentos; desfalecia-lhes a alma.

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

6 E clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livrou das suas angústias;

Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

7 c onduziu-os por um caminho direito, para irem a uma cidade em que habitassem.

And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

8 D êem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!

9 P ois ele satisfaz a alma sedenta, e enche de bens a alma faminta.

For he satisfies the soul that is destitute and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

10 Q uanto aos que se assentavam nas trevas e sombra da morte, presos em aflição e em ferros,

¶ Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and in irons,

11 p or se haverem rebelado contra as palavras de Deus, e desprezado o conselho do Altíssimo,

because they rebelled against the words of God and condemned the counsel of the most High:

12 e is que lhes abateu o coração com trabalho; tropeçaram, e não houve quem os ajudasse.

Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was no one to help.

13 E ntão clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livrou das suas angústias.

Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14 T irou-os das trevas e da sombra da morte, e quebrou-lhes as prisões.

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke their bonds asunder.

15 D êem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!

16 P ois quebrou as portas de bronze e despedaçou as trancas de ferro.

For he has broken the gates of brass and cut the bars of iron asunder.

17 O s insensatos, por causa do seu caminho de transgressão, e por causa das suas iniqüidades, são afligidos.

¶ The fools, because of the way of their rebellion, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted.

18 A sua alma aborreceu toda sorte de comida, e eles chegaram até as portas da morte.

Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near unto the gates of death.

19 E ntão clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livrou das suas angústias.

Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

20 E nviou a sua palavra, e os sarou, e os livrou da destruição.

He sent his word and healed them and delivered them from their graves.

21 D êem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!

22 O fereçam sacrifícios de louvor, e relatem as suas obras com regozijo!

And let them offer the sacrifices of praise and publish his works with singing.

23 O s que descem ao mar em navios, os que fazem comércio nas grandes águas,

¶ Those that go down to the sea in ships that do work in many waters,

24 e sses vêem as obras do Senhor, e as suas maravilhas no abismo.

these have seen the works of the LORD and his wonders in the deep.

25 P ois ele manda, e faz levantar o vento tempestuoso, que eleva as ondas do mar.

For he commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.

26 E les sobem ao céu, descem ao abismo; esvaece-lhes a alma de aflição.

They mount up to the heavens; they go down again to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble.

27 B alançam e cambaleiam como ébrios, e perdem todo o tino.

They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man, and all of their knowledge is of no avail.

28 E ntão clamam ao Senhor na sua tribulação, e ele os livra das suas angústias.

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivers them out of their afflictions.

29 F az cessar a tormenta, de modo que se acalmam as ondas.

He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

30 E ntão eles se alegram com a bonança; e assim ele os leva ao porto desejado.

Then they are glad because they are at rest; so he brings them into the haven of his will.

31 D êem graças ao Senhor pela sua benignidade, e pelas suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!

32 E xaltem-no na congregação do povo, e louvem-no na assembléia dos anciãos!

Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

33 E le converte rios em deserto, e nascentes em terra sedenta;

¶ He turned rivers into a wilderness and the watersprings into dry ground;

34 a terra frutífera em deserto salgado, por causa da maldade dos que nela habitam.

the fruitful land into salt flats, because of the wickedness of those that dwell therein.

35 C onverte o deserto em lagos, e a terra seca em nascentes.

He turns the wilderness into reservoirs of water and dry ground into watersprings.

36 E faz habitar ali os famintos, que edificam uma cidade para sua habitação;

And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation

37 s emeiam campos e plantam vinhas, que produzem frutos abundantes.

and sow the fields and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

38 E le os abençoa, de modo que se multiplicam sobremaneira; e não permite que o seu gado diminua.

He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly and suffers not their cattle to decrease.

39 Q uando eles decrescem e são abatidos pela opressão, aflição e tristeza,

Again, they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

40 e le lança o desprezo sobre os príncipes, e os faz desgarrados pelo deserto, onde não há caminho.

He pours contempt upon princes and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

41 M as levanta da opressão o necessitado para um alto retiro, e dá-lhe famílias como um rebanho.

Yet he sets the poor on high from affliction and makes his families like a flock.

42 O s retos o vêem e se regozijam, e toda a iniqüidade tapa a sua própria boca.

The righteous shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

43 Q uem é sábio observe estas coisas, e considere atentamente as benignidades do Senhor.

Who is wise and will observe these things and shall understand the mercies of the LORD?
