1 F ilho meu, guarda as minhas palavras, e entesoura contigo os meus mandamentos.

¶ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2 O bserva os meus mandamentos e vive; guarda a minha lei, como a menina dos teus olhos.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

3 A ta-os aos teus dedos, escreve-os na tábua do teu coração.

Bind them upon thy fingers; write them upon the tablet of thine heart.

4 D ize ã sabedoria: Tu és minha irmã; e chama ao entendimento teu amigo íntimo,

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister, and call understanding thy kinswoman:

5 p ara te guardarem da mulher alheia, da adúltera, que lisonjeia com as suas palavras.

That they may keep thee from the woman belonging to someone else, from the stranger who flatters with her words.

6 P orque da janela da minha casa, por minhas grades olhando eu,

¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement

7 v i entre os simples, divisei entre os jovens, um mancebo falto de juízo,

and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

8 q ue passava pela rua junto ã esquina da mulher adúltera e que seguia o caminho da sua casa,

passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9 n o crepúsculo, ã tarde do dia, ã noite fechada e na escuridão;

in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night;

10 e eis que uma mulher lhe saiu ao encontro, ornada ã moda das prostitutas, e astuta de coração.

and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.

11 E la é turbulenta e obstinada; não param em casa os seus pés;

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house:

12 o ra está ela pelas ruas, ora pelas praças, espreitando por todos os cantos.

Now without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.)

13 P egou dele, pois, e o beijou; e com semblante impudico lhe disse:

So she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him,

14 S acrifícios pacíficos tenho comigo; hoje paguei os meus votos.

I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows.

15 P or isso saí ao teu encontro a buscar-te diligentemente, e te achei.

Therefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16 J á cobri a minha cama de cobertas, de colchas de linho do Egito.

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17 J á perfumei o meu leito com mirra, aloés e cinamomo.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 V em, saciemo-nos de amores até pela manhã; alegremo-nos com amores.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves.

19 P orque meu marido não está em casa; foi fazer uma jornada ao longe;

For the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey:

20 u m saquitel de dinheiro levou na mão; só lá para o dia da lua cheia voltará para casa.

He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day.

21 E la o faz ceder com a multidão das suas palavras sedutoras, com as lisonjas dos seus lábios o arrasta.

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him.

22 E le a segue logo, como boi que vai ao matadouro, e como o louco ao castigo das prisões;

He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,

23 a té que uma flecha lhe atravesse o fígado, como a ave que se apressa para o laço, sem saber que está armado contra a sua vida.

until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

24 A gora, pois, filhos, ouvi-me, e estai atentos

¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 N ão se desvie para os seus caminhos o teu coração, e não andes perdido nas suas veredas.

Let not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths.

26 P orque ela a muitos tem feito cair feridos; e são muitíssimos os que por ela foram mortos.

For she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her.

27 C aminho de Seol é a sua casa, o qual desce

Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.
