1 T oda mulher sábia edifica a sua casa; a insensata, porém, derruba-a com as suas mãos.

¶ Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

2 Q uem anda na sua retidão teme ao Senhor; mas aquele que é perverso nos seus caminhos despreza-o.

¶ He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

3 N a boca do tolo está a vara da soberba, mas os lábios do sábio preservá-lo-ão.

¶ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 O nde não há bois, a manjedoura está vazia; mas pela força do boi há abundância de colheitas.

¶ Without oxen, the storehouse is clean, but by the strength of the ox there is abundance of bread.

5 A testemunha verdadeira não mentirá; a testemunha falsa, porém, se desboca em mentiras.

¶ The true witness will not lie, but the false witness will utter lies.

6 O escarnecedor busca sabedoria, e não a encontra; mas para o prudente o conhecimento é fácil.

¶ The scorner sought wisdom and found it not, but wisdom comes easy unto him that understands.

7 V ai-te da presença do homem insensato, pois nele não acharás palavras de ciência.

¶ Go from the presence of the foolish man when thou dost not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.

8 A sabedoria do prudente é entender o seu caminho; porém a estultícia dos tolos é enganar.

¶ The wisdom of the sane is to understand his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 A culpa zomba dos insensatos; mas os retos têm o favor de Deus.

¶ Fools speak sin unto themselves, but among the righteous there is love.

10 O coração conhece a sua própria amargura; e o estranho não participa da sua alegria.

¶ The heart knows the bitterness of his soul, and a stranger shall not intermeddle with his joy.

11 A casa dos ímpios se desfará; porém a tenda dos retos florescerá.

¶ The house of the wicked shall be made desolate, but the tent of the upright shall flourish.

12 H á um caminho que ao homem parece direito, mas o fim dele conduz ã morte.

¶ There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 A té no riso terá dor o coração; e o fim da alegria é tristeza.

¶ Even in laughter, the scorner has pain in his heart, and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 D os seus próprios caminhos se fartará o infiel de coração, como também o homem bom se contentará dos seus.

¶ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man shall be separated from him.

15 O simples dá crédito a tudo; mas o prudente atenta para os seus passos.

¶ The simple believes every word, but the prudent man understands his steps.

16 O sábio teme e desvia-se do mal, mas o tolo é arrogante e dá-se por seguro.

¶ The wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is confident.

17 Q uem facilmente se ira fará doidices; mas o homem discreto é paciente;

¶ He that is soon angry shall deal foolishly, and the man of wicked devices shall be hated.

18 O s simples herdam a estultícia; mas os prudentes se coroam de conhecimento.

¶ The simple shall inherit folly, but the prudent shall be crowned with wisdom.

19 O s maus inclinam-se perante os bons; e os ímpios diante das portas dos justos.

¶ Those who are evil shall bow before those who are good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 O pobre é odiado até pelo seu vizinho; mas os amigos dos ricos são muitos.

¶ The poor is hated even of his own neighbour, but many are those who love the rich.

21 O que despreza ao seu vizinho peca; mas feliz é aquele que se compadece dos pobres.

¶ The sinner despises his neighbour, but he that has mercy on the poor is blessed.

22 P orventura não erram os que maquinam o mal? mas há beneficência e fidelidade para os que planejam o bem.

¶ Do they not err that meditate upon evil? but those that meditate upon good shall attain mercy and truth.

23 E m todo trabalho há proveito; meras palavras, porém, só encaminham para a penúria.

¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

24 A coroa dos sábios é a sua riqueza; porém a estultícia dos tolos não passa de estultícia.

¶ The crown of the wise is their wisdom, but that which distinguishes fools is their folly.

25 A testemunha verdadeira livra as almas; mas o que fala mentiras é traidor.

¶ The true witness delivers souls, but the deceitful one speaks lies.

26 N o temor do Senhor há firme confiança; e os seus filhos terão um lugar de refúgio.

¶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence, and there his sons shall have hope.

27 O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida, para o homem se desviar dos laços da morte.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 N a multidão do povo está a glória do rei; mas na falta de povo está a ruína do príncipe.

¶ In the multitude of the people is the king’s glory, but in the failure of the people is the weakness of the prince.

29 Q uem é tardio em irar-se é grande em entendimento; mas o que é de ânimo precipitado exalta a loucura.

¶ He that is slow to wrath is of great intelligence, but he that is short of spirit exalts folly.

30 O coração tranqüilo é a vida da carne; a inveja, porém, é a podridão dos ossos.

¶ A sound heart is life to the flesh, but envy is rottenness of the bones.

31 O que oprime ao pobre insulta ao seu Criador; mas honra-o aquele que se compadece do necessitado.

¶ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he that has mercy on the poor, honours him.

32 O ímpio é derrubado pela sua malícia; mas o justo até na sua morte acha refúgio.

¶ For his wickedness shall the wicked be cast out, but the righteous in his death has hope.

33 N o coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria; mas no coração dos tolos não é conhecida.

¶ Wisdom shall rest in the heart of him that is sane and is made known in the midst of the fools.

34 A justiça exalta as nações; mas o pecado é o opróbrio dos povos.

¶ Righteousness exalts a people, but sin is a reproach to the nations.

35 O favor do rei é concedido ao servo que procede sabiamente; mas sobre o que procede indignamente cairá o seu furor.

¶ The king’s favour is toward the wise slave, but his wrath is against him that causes shame.
