1 A şadar, fiţi imitatori ai lui Dumnezeu ca nişte copii preaiubiţi

¶ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as dear children

2 ş i trăiţi în dragoste, aşa cum şi Cristos ne-a iubit şi S-a dat pe Sine pentru noi, ca un dar şi ca o jertfă de o aromă plăcută lui Dumnezeu.

and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

3 Î nsă desfrâul şi necurăţia de orice fel sau lăcomia nici n-ar trebui să fie pomenite între voi, aşa cum se cuvine sfinţilor!

¶ But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becomes saints,

4 D e asemenea, gesturile neruşinate, vorbirea nesăbuită sau glumele murdare nu sunt potrivite, ci mai degrabă mulţumirile.

neither dishonest words nor foolishness nor low jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks.

5 S ă ştiţi sigur că nici un om desfrânat sau necurat sau lacom, care este un idolatru, n-are parte de moştenire în Împărăţia lui Cristos şi a lui Dumnezeu.

For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 N imeni să nu vă înşele cu vorbe goale, căci datorită acestor lucruri vine mânia lui Dumnezeu peste cei neascultători.

Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7 A şadar, nu vă asociaţi cu ei!

Be not ye, therefore, partakers with them.

8 O dată eraţi întuneric, dar acum, în Domnul, sunteţi lumină. Trăiţi ca nişte copii ai luminii.

For in another time ye were darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

9 I ar rodul luminii este găsit în tot ce este bun, drept şi adevărat.

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

10 C ăutaţi să descoperiţi ceea ce-I este plăcut Domnului.

approving what is well pleasing unto the Lord.

11 N u luaţi parte la faptele nefolositoare ale întunericului, ci mai degrabă demascaţi-le,

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 c ăci este ruşinos şi numai să vorbim despre lucrurile pe care le fac ei în ascuns.

For it is a shame even to speak of those things which they do in secret.

13 T ot ce este demascat de lumină devine vizibil,

But all these things when they are reproved by the light are made manifest, for the light is that which manifests everything.

14 p entru că lumina face ca totul să se vadă clar. De aceea se spune: „Trezeşte-te, tu, care dormi, învie din morţi, iar Cristos te va lumina!“

Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

15 F iţi atenţi deci cum trăiţi – nu ca nişte neînţelepţi, ci ca nişte înţelepţi.

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 F olosiţi orice ocazie pe care o aveţi, pentru că zilele sunt rele.

redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 N u fiţi neînţelepţi, ci înţelegeţi care este voia Domnului.

Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding of what the will of the Lord is.

18 N u vă îmbătaţi cu vin, căci aceasta duce la destrăbălare, ci fiţi plini de Duh.

And be not drunk with wine, in which there is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,

19 V orbiţi între voi cu psalmi, imnuri şi cântece duhovniceşti, cântând şi lăudându-L pe Domnul în inima voastră.

speaking among yourselves with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and praising the Lord in your hearts,

20 M ulţumiţi întotdeauna pentru toate lui Dumnezeu Tatăl, în Numele Domnului nostru Isus Cristos.

giving thanks always for all things unto the God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

21 S upuneţi-vă unii altora, în frică de Cristos. Îndemnuri privind relaţiile din casa creştinului

¶ submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 S oţiilor, supuneţi-vă soţilor voştri ca Domnului,

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord.

23 p entru că soţul este capul soţiei, aşa cum Cristos este capul Bisericii, trupul al cărui Mântuitor este El.

For the husband is the head of the wife even as the Christ is head of the congregation, and it is he who gives saving health to the body.

24 Ş i, aşa cum Biserica I se supune lui Cristos, la fel şi soţiile trebuie să li se supună soţilor lor în toate.

Therefore, as the congregation is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25 S oţilor, iubiţi-vă soţiile aşa cum Şi-a iubit Cristos Biserica! El S-a dat pe Sine pentru ea,

Husbands, love your wives even as the Christ also loved the congregation and gave himself for her,

26 c a s-o sfinţească curăţind-o prin spălarea cu apă, prin Cuvânt,

that he might sanctify and cleanse her in the washing of water by the word,

27 p entru a Şi-o înfăţişa în toată slava, fără pată, zbârcitură sau altceva de felul acesta, ci sfântă şi fără cusur.

that he might present her glorious for himself, a congregation, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

28 L a fel trebuie să-şi iubească şi soţii soţiile, şi anume ca pe trupurile lor. Cel care-şi iubeşte soţia se iubeşte pe sine.

So ought husbands to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself.

29 F iindcă nimeni nu şi-a urât vreodată trupul, ci îl hrăneşte şi are grijă de el, aşa cum face şi Cristos pentru Biserică.

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it even as the Lord with his congregation:

30 C ăci noi suntem mădulare ale trupului Său, („carne din carnea Lui şi os din oasele Lui“ ).

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 „ De aceea bărbatul îşi va lăsa tatăl şi mama şi se va uni cu soţia lui, iar cei doi vor deveni un singur trup.“

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall be joined unto his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh.

32 T aina acesta este mare – mă refer la Cristos şi la Biserică.

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the congregation.

33 T otuşi, fiecare dintre voi trebuie să-şi iubească soţia ca pe sine însuşi, iar soţia să-şi respecte soţul.

Nevertheless, let each one of you do likewise, let each one so love his wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she reverences her husband.
