1 D omnul i-a zis lui Moise:

¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

2 „ Răzbună-i pe israeliţi împotriva midianiţilor; după aceea vei fi adăugat la poporul tău.“

Avenge the sons of Israel upon the Midianites; afterward thou shalt be gathered unto thy peoples.

3 M oise a spus poporului: „Înarmaţi câţiva bărbaţi dintre voi care să meargă la luptă împotriva lui Midian şi să aducă răzbunarea Domnului asupra lui.

And Moses spoke unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war and let them go against the Midianites and carry out the vengeance of the LORD in Midian.

4 T rimiteţi la război câte o mie de bărbaţi din fiecare seminţie a lui Israel.“

A thousand out of every tribe throughout all the tribes of Israel shall ye send to the war.

5 A stfel, din miile lui Israel, au fost pregătiţi douăsprezece mii de bărbaţi, câte o mie din fiecare seminţie.

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

6 M oise i-a trimis la luptă pe aceşti o mie de bărbaţi din fiecare seminţie, împreună cu preotul Fineas, fiul lui Elazar, care a luat cu el uneltele sfinte şi trâmbiţele de luptă.

And Moses sent them to the war; he sent a thousand of every tribe; and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, went to the war with the holy instruments, with the trumpets to blow in his hand.

7 A ceştia s-au luptat împotriva Midianului, după cum îi poruncise Domnul lui Moise, şi au ucis toţi bărbaţii.

¶ And they fought against the Midianites as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

8 A lături de cei ucişi se aflau şi cei cinci regi ai Midianului: Evi, Rechem, Ţur, Hur şi Reba. Au ucis cu sabia şi pe Balaam, fiul lui Beor.

And they also slew the kings of Midian among the rest of those that were slain: namely, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, five kings of Midian; they also slew Balaam, the son of Beor, with the sword.

9 I sraeliţii au luat ca pradă de război femeile midianite şi copiii lor, vitele lor, turmele lor şi toate celelalte bunuri.

And the sons of Israel took all the women of Midian captives and their little ones and took the spoil of all their beasts and all their flocks and all their goods.

10 A u dat foc tuturor cetăţilor în care au locuit midianiţii precum şi tuturor fortăreţelor lor.

And they burnt all their cities in which they dwelt and all their palaces with fire.

11 A u luat toată prada şi tot ce au jefuit, atât oameni, cât şi animale,

And they took all the spoil and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

12 ş i le-au adus – prizonierii, prada şi jafurile – lui Moise, preotului Elazar şi adunării israeliţilor la tabăra din câmpiile Moabului, lângă Iordan, în faţa Ierihonului.

And they brought the captives and the prey and the spoil unto Moses and Eleazar, the priest, and unto the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the camp in the plains of Moab, which was by Jordan of Jericho.

13 M oise, preotul Elazar şi toţi conducătorii adunării s-au dus să-i întâlnească în afara taberei.

¶ And Moses and Eleazar, the priest, and all the princes of the congregation went forth to meet them outside the camp.

14 M oise s-a mâniat pe conducătorii oştirii – pe conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute – care se întorceau din război:

And Moses was angry with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands and captains over hundreds who returned from the battle.

15 „ Cum? Aţi lăsat în viaţă femeile?“, i-a întrebat el.

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

16 „ Ele sunt acelea care au urmat sfatul lui Balaam şi au fost un prilej de păcătuire a israeliţilor împotriva Domnului, în cele întâmplate la Peor, astfel încât poporul Domnului a fost lovit de o urgie.

Behold, these caused the sons of Israel through the counsel of Balaam to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor for which there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

17 A cum, ucideţi toţi băieţii precum şi toate femeile care au cunoscut un bărbat, culcându-se cu el,

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones and kill every woman that has known a man by lying with him.

18 i ar pe fetele care nu s-au culcat niciodată cu un bărbat puteţi să vi le păstraţi vouă.

But all the female children that have not known a man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves.

19 A poi toţi aceia dintre voi care aţi ucis pe cineva sau aţi atins vreun cadavru trebuie să rămâneţi afară din tabără şapte zile. A treia şi a şaptea zi trebuie să vă curăţiţi, atât voi, cât şi prizonierii voştri.

And ye must abide outside the camp seven days; and whoever has killed any person and whoever has touched any dead body ye shall remove the sin from them on the third and on the seventh day, both of yourselves and of your captives.

20 D e asemenea, să curăţiţi orice haină şi orice lucru făcut din piele, din păr de capră sau din lemn.“

Likewise remove all sin from all your clothing and all that is made of skins and all work of goats’ hair and every vessel made of wood.

21 A poi preotul Elazar le-a zis bărbaţilor care fuseseră la război: „Iată ce porunceşte Legea pe care i-a poruncit-o Domnul lui Moise:

And Eleazar, the priest, said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;

22 « Aurul, argintul, bronzul, fierul, cositorul, plumbul

certainly the gold and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

23 ş i orice lucru care poate suferi focul, să-l treceţi prin foc şi apoi prin apa de curăţire, ca să fie curăţit. Tot ce nu suportă focul trebuie curăţit prin această apă.

every thing that may endure the fire, ye shall cause to pass through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless, ye shall remove the sin with the water of separation; and all that does not endure the fire ye shall cause to go through the water.

24 A şaptea zi să vă spălaţi hainele şi veţi fi curaţi. Apoi veţi putea să vă întoarceţi în tabără.»“ Împărţirea prăzii

Ye shall also wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterwards ye shall come into the camp.

25 D omnul i-a zis lui Moise:

¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

26 „ Tu, preotul Elazar şi toţi conducătorii familiilor din adunare să număraţi toţi oamenii şi toate animalele care au fost luate ca pradă.

Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou and Eleazar, the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the congregation,

27 Î mpărţiţi prada între cei care au luat parte la luptă şi restul adunării.

and divide the prey into two parts between those that took the part in the war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.

28 D e la bărbaţii care au luptat în război, să aduci ca tribut Domnului câte unul la cinci sute, fie oameni, boi, măgari, oi sau ţapi.

And offer a tribute unto the LORD from the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons and of the oxen and of the asses and of the sheep.

29 I a acest tribut din jumătatea cuvenită lor şi dă-l preotului Elazar, ca parte a Domnului.

Take it from their half and give Eleazar, the priest, the offering of the LORD.

30 D in cealaltă jumătate, cuvenită poporului, alege câte unul din fiecare cincizeci – dintre oameni, boi, măgari, oi, ţapi sau orice alt animal – şi dă-l leviţilor care sunt responsabili de Tabernaculul Domnului. “

And of the half belonging to the sons of Israel, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of animals and give them unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.

31 M oise şi preotul Elazar au făcut întocmai după cum îi poruncise Domnul lui Moise.

And Moses and Eleazar, the priest, did as the LORD commanded Moses.

32 P rada rămasă din jaful făcut de ostaşi era de şase sute şaptezeci şi cinci de mii de oi,

And the prey, that is the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep

33 ş aptezeci şi două de mii de boi,

and seventy-two thousand oxen

34 ş aizeci şi unu de mii de măgari

and sixty-one thousand asses

35 ş i treizeci şi două de mii de femei care nu s-au culcat niciodată cu un bărbat.

and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known a man by lying with him.

36 J umătatea care alcătuia partea celor ce luptaseră în război era: trei sute treizeci şi şapte de mii cinci sute de oi,

And the half which was the portion of those that went out to war was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep.

37 d in care şase sute şaptezeci şi cinci erau tribut Domnului;

And the tribute for the LORD, of the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.

38 t reizeci şi şase de mii de boi, din care şaptezeci şi doi erau tribut Domnului;

And the oxen were thirty-six thousand, of which the tribute for the LORD was seventy-two.

39 t reizeci de mii cinci sute de măgari, din care şaizeci şi unu erau tribut Domnului;

And the asses were thirty thousand five hundred, of which the tribute for the LORD was sixty-one.

40 ş aisprezece mii de oameni, din care treizeci şi doi erau tribut Domnului.

And the persons were sixteen thousand, of which the tribute for the LORD was thirty-two persons.

41 M oise a dat acest tribut preotului Elazar, ca parte a Domnului, după cum Domnul îi poruncise lui Moise.

And Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD’s heave offering, unto Eleazar, the priest, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

42 J umătatea care alcătuia partea israeliţilor, pe care Moise a separat-o de cea a ostaşilor

And of the half pertaining to the sons of Israel, which Moses divided from the men that had gone to war,

43 – jumătatea adunării – era de trei sute treizeci şi şapte de mii cinci sute de oi,

(now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep

44 t reizeci şi şase de mii de boi,

and thirty-six thousand oxen

45 t reizeci de mii cinci sute de măgari

and thirty thousand five hundred asses

46 ş i şaisprezece mii de oameni.

and sixteen thousand persons)

47 D in jumătatea israeliţilor, Moise a ales câte unul din fiecare cincizeci de oameni şi animale, după cum i-a poruncit Domnul şi i-a dat leviţilor care erau responsabili de Tabernaculul Domnului.

of the half, therefore of the sons of Israel, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, who kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

48 A tunci conducătorii oştirii – cei peste mii şi cei peste sute – s-au dus la Moise

¶ And the officers who were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses,

49 ş i i-au zis: „Slujitorii tăi au numărat luptătorii de sub comanda noastră şi nu lipseşte nici unul.

and they said unto Moses, Thy slaves have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our charge and not one man of us is missing.

50 N oi aducem ca jertfă Domnului tot ce am găsit ca obiect de aur – lănţişoare, brăţări, inele, cercei şi coliere – ca să facem ispăşire pentru sufletele noastre înaintea Domnului. “

We have therefore brought an offering for the LORD, each man of what he has found, of vessels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to reconcile our souls before the LORD.

51 M oise şi preotul Elazar au acceptat de la ei toate aceste obiecte lucrate în aur.

And Moses and Eleazar, the priest, took the gold from them, all wrought vessels.

52 T ot aurul pe care conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute l-au adus Domnului cântărea şaisprezece mii şapte sute cincizeci de şecheli.

And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

53 F iecare luptător şi-a păstrat prada pentru sine.

(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)

54 M oise şi preotul Elazar au acceptat aurul adus de conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute şi l-au adus în Cortul Întâlnirii ca o aducere-aminte pentru israeliţi înaintea Domnului.

And Moses and Eleazar, the priest, took the gold from the captains of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the tabernacle of the testimony, for a memorial of the sons of Israel before the LORD.
