1 „ Dacă te vei întoarce, Israele, zice Domnul, dacă te vei întoarce la Mine, dacă vei alunga urâciunile tale dinaintea Mea şi nu vei mai rătăci,

¶ If thou wilt return unto me, O Israel, said the LORD, thou shalt have rest; and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then thou shalt not go into captivity.

2 d acă vei jura: «Viu este Domnul!», făcând lucrul acesta cu credincioşie, cu judecată şi cu dreptate, atunci neamurile vor fi binecuvântate în El şi se vor lăuda cu El.

And thou shalt swear, The LORD lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteous ness; and the Gentiles shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

3 C ăci aşa vorbeşte Domnul bărbaţilor din Iuda şi din Ierusalim: «Desţeleniţi-vă un ogor nou şi nu semănaţi între spini!

¶ For thus has the LORD said to every man of Judah and of Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns.

4 T ăiaţi-vă împrejur pentru Domnul, circumcideţi-vă inimile, bărbaţi ai lui Iuda şi locuitori ai Ierusalimului! Altfel, mânia Mea se va dezlănţui ca un foc şi va arde fără să mai poată fi stinsă, din cauza răutăţii faptelor voastre. Invazie din nord

Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem lest my fury come forth like fire and burn so that no one can quench it because of the evil of your doings.

5 D aţi de ştire în Iuda, vestiţi în Ierusalim şi spuneţi: ‘Sunaţi din trâmbiţă în ţară!’ Strigaţi în gura mare şi ziceţi: ‘Strângeţi-vă şi haideţi în cetăţile fortificate!’

¶ Declare ye in Judah and publish in Jerusalem and say, Blow ye the shofar in the land; cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

6 Î nălţaţi un steag îndreptat spre Sion! Fugiţi şi nu vă opriţi! Căci Eu aduc, din nord, nenorocirea şi un mare prăpăd!»“

Set up the banner in Zion: come together, do not delay: for I bring evil from the north wind, and a great destruction.

7 „ Leul a ieşit din tufişul său şi nimicitorul neamurilor a pornit. El şi-a părăsit locul ca să distrugă ţara. Cetăţile tale vor zăcea în ruină, fără nici un locuitor.

The lion is come up from his den, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

8 D e aceea, îmbrăcaţi-vă cu saci, plângeţi şi tânguiţi-vă, căci mânia aprigă a Domnului nu s-a îndepărtat de la noi.“

For this, gird yourselves with sackcloth; lament and howl; for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

9 „ În ziua aceea, zice Domnul, regele şi conducătorii îşi vor pierde curajul, preoţii vor fi îngroziţi şi profeţii vor rămâne înmărmuriţi.“

And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

10 E u am zis: – O, Stăpâne Doamne! Într-adevăr ai înşelat poporul acesta şi Ierusalimul când ai zis: „Veţi avea pace!“ Iată că sabia este la gâtul lor!

(Then I said, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; when the sword reaches unto the soul.)

11 – În vremea aceea se va zice poporului acestuia şi Ierusalimului că un vânt arzător suflă din locurile înalte ale pustiei pe drumul fiicei poporului Meu, nu ca să vânture, nici ca să cureţe.

At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places of the wilderness came toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse.

12 T otuşi un vânt şi mai puternic va veni de la Mine! Acum însă îmi voi rosti judecăţile împotriva lor.

A wind much more violent than these shall come unto me; for now I will also speak judgments against them.

13 „ Iată, nimicitorul înaintează ca norii, carele lui sunt ca un vârtej, iar caii lui sunt mai rapizi decât vulturii. Vai de noi, căci vom fi distruşi!“

Behold, he shall come up as a cloud, and his chariots as a whirlwind; his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us, for we are given over to be spoiled!

14 „ Curăţeşte-ţi inima de rău, Ierusalime, ca să fii izbăvit! Până când vei păstra gânduri nelegiuite în inima ta?

O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness that thou may be saved. How long shalt thou entertain the thoughts of thy iniquity within thee?

15 C ăci o voce strigă din Dan şi anunţă nenorocirea din muntele lui Efraim.

For the voice is heard from him who brings the news from Dan and from him who causes to hear the affliction from Mount Ephraim.

16 A duceţi aminte neamurilor lucrul acesta! Iată, vestiţi în Ierusalim că nişte asediatori vin dintr-o ţară îndepărtată şi îşi ridică glasurile împotriva cetăţilor lui Iuda.

Say ye of the Gentiles; behold, cause it to be heard upon Jerusalem, Watchmen come from a far country and shall give out their voice upon the cities of Judah.

17 C a cei care păzesc un ogor, aşa înconjoară ei Ierusalimul, căci s-a răzvrătit împotriva Mea, zice Domnul.

As the watchmen of the heritages, they were upon her round about because she has been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

18 C ăile şi faptele tale au adus acestea asupra ta. Aceasta este pedeapsa pentru răutatea ta. Ce amară este şi cum te pătrunde până în inimă!“

Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness because it is bitter, because it reaches unto thine heart.

19 „ Ah, măruntaiele mele! Măruntaiele mele! Mă zvârcolesc în durere! Ah, zidurile inimii mele! Cum îmi zvâcneşte inima! Nu pot rămâne tăcut! Sufletul meu a auzit sunetul trâmbiţei şi strigătul de război.

¶ My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the shofar, the alarm of war.

20 S e vesteşte dărâmare după dărâmare, căci toată ţara este devastată. Corturile îmi sunt dărâmate dintr-odată, iar acoperişul într-o clipă.

Destruction upon destruction is cried, for the whole land is destroyed; suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtains in a moment.

21 P ână când voi vedea steagul şi voi auzi sunetul trâmbiţei?“

How long shall I see the banner and hear the voice of the shofar?

22 „ Cei din poporul Meu sunt nebuni; ei nu Mă cunosc. Sunt nişte copii fără minte, lipsiţi de discernământ. Sunt pricepuţi să facă răul; nu ştiu să facă binele.“

For my people are foolish; the ignorant sons with no understanding have not known me; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

23 „ Mă uit la pământ şi iată că este pustiu şi gol. Mă uit la ceruri şi iată că lumina lor a pierit.

I beheld the earth, and, behold, it was without order, and empty; and the heavens, and they had no light.

24 M ă uit la munţi şi iată că ei se cutremură iar toate dealurile se clatină.

I beheld the mountains, and, behold, they trembled, and all the hills were destroyed.

25 M ă uit şi iată că nu mai este nici un om şi toate păsările cerului au fugit.

I beheld, and, behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled.

26 M ă uit şi iată că ţinutul roditor este un pustiu şi toate cetăţile lui sunt dărâmate înaintea Domnului şi înaintea aprigei Lui mânii.

I beheld, and, behold, Carmel was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD and by his fierce anger.

27 C ăci aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Toată ţara va fi pustiită, însă nu o voi distruge complet.

For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end.

28 D in cauza aceasta pământul se va jeli, iar cerurile se vor întuneca. Eu am vorbit şi am plănuit aceasta! Nu-Mi pare rău şi nici nu mă voi răzgândi!»

For this shall the earth be made desolate, and the heavens above be darkened because I spoke; I purposed and did not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

29 L a vuietul călăreţilor şi la strigătul arcaşilor toţi cei din cetăţi o iau la fugă; se ascund în păduri şi se urcă pe stânci. Toate cetăţile sunt părăsite şi nimeni nu mai locuieşte în ele.

The whole city fled from the thunder of the horsemen and bowmen; they went into the thickets of the forests and climbed up upon the rocks; every city was forsaken, and not a man dwells therein.

30 I ar tu, cea pustiită, ce vei face? Te vei îmbrăca în roşu, te vei împodobi cu giuvaiere de aur şi îţi vei machia ochii cu antimoniu? Degeaba te vei înfrumuseţa! Iubiţii tăi te dispreţuiesc şi vor să-ţi ia viaţa.

And thou who art destroyed, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with crimson, though thou deck thee with ornaments of gold, though thou paint thy eyes with antimony, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee; they will seek thy life.

31 A ud nişte strigăte ca ale unei femei în chinurile naşterii, strigăte ale unei femei care naşte pentru prima oară. Este glasul fiicei Sionului care răsuflă greu şi îşi întinde mâinile, zicând: «Vai de mine! Mi-e sufletul sleit din cauza ucigaşilor!»“

For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her that brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewails herself, that spreads her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is faint because of the murderers.
