1 O rice persoană trebuie să se supună autorităţilor, pentru că nu există nici o autoritate care să nu fi fost instituită de Dumnezeu. Autorităţile care există au fost instituite de Dumnezeu.

¶ Let every soul submit itself to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God, and the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 P rin urmare, oricine se împotriveşte autorităţii, se împotriveşte rânduielii puse de Dumnezeu, iar cei care se împotrivesc îşi vor primi condamnarea.

Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God, and those that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves.

3 D eoarece conducătorii nu le inspiră teamă celor ce fac binele, ci celor ce fac răul. Vrei deci să nu-ţi fie frică de autoritate? Fă ce este bine şi vei fi lăudat de ea!

For the magistrates are not a terror unto those who do good, but to the doer of evil. Is thy desire therefore to not fear the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same;

4 C ăci ea este un slujitor al lui Dumnezeu pentru binele tău. Însă, dacă faci ceea ce este rău, teme-te, căci nu degeaba poartă sabia! Ea este în slujba lui Dumnezeu, pentru a aduce mânia peste cel ce înfăptuieşte răul.

for he is a minister of God for thy good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain, for he is a minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.

5 A şadar, trebuie să le fii supus nu doar din cauza mâniei, ci şi datorită conştiinţei.

Therefore it is necessary that ye be subject, not only for punishment, but also for conscience sake.

6 D in acelaşi motiv trebuie să plătiţi şi taxele, pentru că autorităţile sunt slujitori ai lui Dumnezeu, care se ocupă cu acest lucru.

For this cause ye also pay them tribute, for they are God’s ministers, attending continually to this very thing.

7 D aţi fiecăruia ceea ce-i datoraţi: taxe – cui datoraţi taxe, vamă – cui datoraţi vamă, respect – cui datoraţi respect, onoare – cui datoraţi onoare! Dragostea faţă de semen

¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

8 S ă nu datoraţi nimănui nimic, în afară de dragoste, pentru că acela care-şi iubeşte semenul a împlinit Legea,

Owe no one anything, but love one unto another; for he that loves his neighbour has fulfilled the law.

9 î ntrucât „Să nu comiţi adulter“; „Să nu ucizi“; „Să nu furi“; „Să nu pofteşti“, şi orice altă poruncă, sunt cuprinse în această afirmaţie: „Să-l iubeşti pe semenul tău ca pe tine însuţi!“

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and if there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 D ragostea nu-i face rău semenului, deci dragostea este împlinirea Legii. Ziua este aproape

Charity works no evil to a neighbour; therefore, charity is the fulfillment of the law.

11 F aceţi lucrul acesta, ştiind ce vremuri sunt: este ceasul să vă treziţi din somn, pentru că mântuirea este mai aproape de noi decât atunci când am devenit credincioşi;

¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed.

12 n oaptea aproape a trecut şi ziua este aproape, deci să lăsăm la o parte faptele întunericului şi să ne îmbrăcăm cu armura luminii!

The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light.

13 S ă ne comportăm aşa cum se cuvine, ca în timpul zilei, nu în orgii şi în beţii, nu în desfrânare şi în depravare, nu în ceartă şi în invidie,

Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 c i îmbrăcaţi-vă cu Domnul Isus Cristos şi nu vă preocupaţi de cum anume să vă îngrijiţi de poftele firii voastre!

But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.
