1 A şadar, eu, ca un bătrân, martor al suferinţelor lui Cristos şi părtaş al slavei care urmează să fie descoperită, îi îndemn pe cei bătrâni dintre voi:

¶ The elders who are among you I exhort (I am also an elder with them and a witness of the afflictions of the Christ, and also a participant of the glory that shall be revealed).

2 p ăstoriţi turma lui Dumnezeu, care este printre voi, supraveghind-o nu din obligaţie, ci de bunăvoie, aşa cum vrea Dumnezeu, nu fiind lacomi de câştig, ci dornici să slujiţi,

Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire;

3 n u ca unii care stăpâniţi peste cei ce v-au fost încredinţaţi, ci fiind exemple pentru turmă.

and not as having lordship over the heritage of the Lord, but in such a manner as to be examples of the flock.

4 I ar când Se va arăta Marele Păstor veţi primi o cunună glorioasă care nu se veştejeşte.

And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.

5 L a fel şi voi, tinerilor, fiţi-le supuşi celor bătrâni! Şi toţi îmbrăcaţi-vă cu smerenie unii faţă de alţii, pentru că „Dumnezeu este împotriva celor mândri, dar celor smeriţi El le dă har.“

¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

6 S meriţi-vă deci sub mâna tare a lui Dumnezeu pentru ca, la timpul potrivit, El să vă înalţe!

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

7 A runcaţi toată îngrijorarea voastră asupra Lui, fiindcă Lui Îi pasă de voi!

casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.

8 F iţi treji! Vegheaţi! Duşmanul vostru, diavolul, dă târcoale ca un leu care rage, căutând pe cineva să înghită.

¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

9 Î mpotriviţi-vă lui fermi în credinţă, ştiind că fraţii voştri din toată lumea trec prin aceleaşi suferinţe!

resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world.

10 D upă ce veţi fi suferit pentru puţin timp, Dumnezeul oricărui har, Care v-a chemat la slava Lui veşnică, în Cristos, vă va echipa El Însuşi, vă va întări, vă va da putere şi vă va face de neclintit.

¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you.

11 A Lui să fie puterea, în veci! Amin.

To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 V -am scris pe scurt aceste lucruri, prin Silvanus, pe care-l consider un frate credincios, pentru a vă încuraja şi pentru a depune mărturie că acesta este adevăratul har al lui Dumnezeu. Rămâneţi în el!

By Silvanus, a faithful brother; (according to my reckoning), I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which ye stand.

13 C ea din Babilon, aleasă împreună cu voi, vă salută şi, de asemenea, şi Marcu, fiul meu.

Those here at Babylon, chosen together with you, salute you and so does Mark, my son.

14 S alutaţi-vă unii pe alţii cu un sărut al dragostei. Pace vouă, tuturor celor care sunteţi în Cristos.

Greet one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Jesus, the Christ. Amen.
