1 D upă ce a terminat de spus aceste cuvinte, Isus le-a zis ucenicilor Săi:

¶ And it came to pass when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples,

2 „ Ştiţi că peste două zile va fi Paştele, iar Fiul Omului va fi trădat ca să fie răstignit“.

Ye know that after two days is the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

3 A tunci conducătorii preoţilor şi bătrânii poporului s-au strâns în curtea marelui preot, numit Caiafa,

Then the princes of the priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled together in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

4 ş i au uneltit să-L aresteze pe Isus prin vicleşug şi să-L omoare.

and took counsel that they might take Jesus by guile and kill him.

5 Î nsă ei ziceau: „Nu în timpul sărbătorii, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în popor“. Ungerea lui Isus la Betania

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

6 Î n timp ce Isus se afla în Betania, în casa lui Simon, leprosul,

¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 a venit la El o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru, plin cu un parfum foarte scump. Ea a turnat parfumul pe capul lui Isus, în timp ce El stătea la masă.

a woman came unto him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on his head as he sat at the table.

8 U cenicii însă au fost indignaţi când au văzut acest lucru şi au zis: „Pentru ce risipa aceasta?

But when his disciples saw it, they became indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 C ăci parfumul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde scump, iar banii să le fie daţi săracilor!“

For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor.

10 I sus ştia ce zic ei, aşa că le-a spus: „De ce îi cauzaţi supărare femeii? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine!

But Jesus, understanding this, said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me.

11 C ăci pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna!

For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

12 C ând a turnat acest parfum pe trupul Meu, ea a făcut lucrul acesta, ca să Mă pregătească pentru înmormântare.

For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare for my burial.

13 A devărat vă spun că oriunde va fi vestită această Evanghelie, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut această femeie, în amintirea ei“. Trădarea lui Iuda

Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman has done, be told for a memorial of her.

14 A tunci unul dintre cei doisprezece, numit Iuda Iscarioteanul, s-a dus la conducătorii preoţilor

¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the princes of the priests

15 ş i i-a întrebat: „Ce vreţi să-mi daţi ca să-L dau pe mâna voastră?“ Ei i-au plătit treizeci de arginţi.

and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16 D e atunci, el a început să caute un prilej, ca să-L dea pe mâna lor. Masa pascală

And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

17 Î n prima zi a Sărbătorii Azimelor, ucenicii au venit la Isus şi L-au întrebat: – Unde vrei să-Ţi pregătim să mănânci mielul de Paşte?

¶ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

18 E l le-a răspuns: – Duceţi-vă în cetate la un anumit om şi spuneţi-i astfel: „Învăţătorul zice: «Timpul Meu este aproape; voi sărbători Paştele la tine, împreună cu ucenicii Mei!»“

And he said, Go into the city to a certain man and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 U cenicii au făcut aşa cum le poruncise Isus şi au pregătit Paştele. Descoperirea trădătorului

And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them, and they made ready the passover.

20 C ând s-a înserat, Isus S-a aşezat la masă împreună cu cei doisprezece.

Now when the evening was come, he sat down at the table with the twelve.

21 Î n timp ce mâncau, Isus le-a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că unul dintre voi Mă va trăda.

And as they ate, he said, Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me.

22 E i s-au întristat foarte tare şi au început să-L întrebe unul câte unul: – Nu cumva sunt eu, Doamne?

And they were exceeding sorrowful and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 E l le-a răspuns: – Cel ce-şi pune mâna în castron împreună cu Mine, acela Mă va trăda!

And he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 D a, Fiul Omului Se duce după cum este scris cu privire la El, dar vai de omul acela prin care este trădat Fiul Omului! Era mai bine pentru acel om dacă nu s-ar fi născut!

The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 I uda, trădătorul, a întrebat: – Nu cumva sunt eu acela, Rabbi ? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui. Cina Domnului

Then Judas, who was betraying him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26 Î n timp ce mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine şi, după ce a rostit binecuvântarea, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o ucenicilor, zicând: „Luaţi, mâncaţi! Acesta este trupul Meu“.

¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and, having blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 A poi a luat un pahar şi, după ce a adus mulţumiri, l-a dat ucenicilor, zicând: „Beţi toţi din el,

And taking the cup and having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 c ăci acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului, care este vărsat pentru mulţi spre iertarea păcatelor.

for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 V ă spun că de acum încolo nu voi mai bea din acest rod al viţei până în ziua aceea, când îl voi bea cu voi nou în Împărăţia Tatălui Meu“.

But I say unto you, I will not drink from now on of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

30 D upă ce au cântat psalmii, s-au dus spre Muntele Măslinilor. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31 A tunci Isus le-a zis: – În noaptea aceasta toţi vă veţi poticni în Mine, pentru că este scris: „Voi lovi păstorul, iar oile turmei vor fi risipite!“

¶ Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night; for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

32 D ar după învierea Mea voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea.

But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

33 P etru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă toţi se vor poticni în Tine, eu nu mă voi poticni niciodată!

Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended.

34 I sus i-a zis: – Adevărat îţi spun că în noaptea aceasta, înainte de cântatul cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!

Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times.

35 P etru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, eu tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine! Şi toţi ucenicii au spus la fel. Ghetsimani

Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

36 A tunci Isus a venit cu ei într-un loc numit Ghetsimani şi le-a zis ucenicilor: „Staţi jos aici în timp ce Eu Mă voi duce acolo să mă rog!“

¶ Then Jesus came with them unto a place called Gethsemane and said unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 I -a luat cu El pe Petru şi pe cei doi fii ai lui Zebedei şi a început să se întristeze şi să se mâhnească.

And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 A tunci le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte. Rămâneţi aici şi vegheaţi împreună cu Mine!“

Then he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me.

39 S -a depărtat puţin, a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi s-a rugat: „Tată, dacă este posibil, să fie îndepărtat de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi, nu cum vreau Eu, ci cum vrei Tu!“

And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 A poi a venit la ucenici, dar i-a găsit dormind. El i-a zis lui Petru: „Aşadar, n-aţi putut veghea împreună cu Mine nici măcar o oră?

And he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 V egheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită! Duhul într-adevăr este doritor, dar carnea este neputincioasă!“

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 S -a îndepărtat a doua oară şi s-a rugat din nou, zicând: „Tată, dacă nu se poate să fie îndepărtat acest pahar de la Mine fără să-l beau, facă-se voia Ta!“

He went away again the second time and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me except I drink it, thy will be done.

43 A venit iarăşi la ucenici şi i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreunaseră ochii de somn.

And he came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

44 I -a lăsat iarăşi, s-a îndepărtat şi s-a rugat pentru a treia oară, spunând aceleaşi cuvinte.

And leaving them, he went away again and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 A tunci a venit la ucenici şi le-a zis: „Încă mai dormiţi şi vă odihniţi? Iată, s-a apropiat ceasul! Fiul Omului este trădat în mâinile păcătoşilor.

Then he came unto his disciples and said unto them, Sleep on now and take your rest; behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

46 S culaţi-vă! Să mergem! Iată că se apropie cel ce Mă trădează!“ Arestarea lui Isus

Rise, let us be going; behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

47 Î n timp ce El încă vorbea, iată că vine Iuda, unul dintre cei doisprezece, împreună cu o mulţime mare de oameni cu săbii şi ciomege, trimişi de conducătorii preoţilor şi de bătrânii poporului.

¶ And while he yet spoke, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the princes of the priests and elders of the people.

48 T rădătorul le dăduse următorul semn: „Cel pe Care-L voi săruta, Acela este! Să-L arestaţi!“

Now he that betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; hold him fast.

49 E l a venit imediat la Isus şi I-a zis: – Salutare, Rabbi! Şi L-a sărutat.

And forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Receive joy, master; and kissed him.

50 I sus i-a zis: – Prietene, fă potrivit cu ceea ce eşti aici să faci! Atunci ei s-au apropiat, au pus mâna pe Isus şi L-au arestat.

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, why art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

51 Ş i iată că unul dintre cei ce erau cu Isus a întins mâna, şi-a scos sabia şi l-a lovit pe sclavul marelui preot, tăindu-i o ureche.

And, behold, one of those who was with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a slave of the high priest and smote off his ear.

52 Î nsă Isus i-a zis: „Pune-ţi sabia la loc, căci toţi cei ce scot sabia, de sabie vor pieri!

Then Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place, for all those that take the sword shall perish by the sword.

53 S au crezi că n-aş putea să-L rog pe Tatăl Meu, Care Mi-ar pune chiar acum la dispoziţie mai mult de douăsprezece legiuni de îngeri?

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 D ar cum s-ar împlini atunci Scripturile care spun că aşa trebuie să se întâmple?“

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be?

55 Î n ceasul acela, Isus a zis mulţimilor: „Aţi ieşit să Mă prindeţi cu săbii şi ciomege, ca pe un tâlhar ? În fiecare zi Mă aşezam în Templu şi dădeam învăţătură, dar nu M-aţi arestat!

In that same hour Jesus said to the multitude, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

56 Î nsă toate acestea s-au întâmplat ca să se împlinească scrierile profeţilor“. Atunci toţi ucenicii L-au părăsit şi au fugit. Isus înaintea Sinedriului

But all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.

57 A tunci cei ce L-au arestat pe Isus L-au dus la Caiafa, marele preot, unde erau adunaţi cărturarii şi bătrânii.

¶ And those that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

58 P etru L-a urmat de la distanţă până la curtea marelui preot. A intrat înăuntru şi s-a aşezat împreună cu gărzile, ca să vadă care va fi sfârşitul.

But Peter followed him afar off unto the patio of the high priest and went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

59 C onducătorii preoţilor şi întregul Sinedriu căutau vreo mărturie falsă împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L poată condamna la moarte,

Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

60 d ar n-au găsit niciuna, deşi veniseră mulţi martori mincinoşi. La urmă, au venit doi

but found none; though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses

61 c are au spus: „Acesta a zis: «Eu pot să dărâm Templul lui Dumnezeu şi să-l reconstruiesc în trei zile!»“

who said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.

62 M arele preot s-a ridicat şi L-a întrebat: – Nu răspunzi nimic la ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva Ta?

And the high priest arose and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee?

63 D ar Isus tăcea. Marele preot i-a zis: – Te pun sub jurământ în faţa Dumnezeului celui Viu să ne spui dacă Tu eşti Cristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu!

But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.

64 I sus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui. Dar vă spun că, de acum încolo, Îl veţi vedea pe Fiul Omului şezând la dreapta Puterii şi venind pe norii cerului!

Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said it; nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven.

65 A tunci marele preot şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi a zis: – A blasfemiat! Ce nevoie mai avem de martori?! Iată, acum aţi auzit blasfemia!

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

66 C e părere aveţi? Ei au răspuns: – Este vinovat şi vrednic de moarte!

What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 A tunci L-au scuipat în faţă şi L-au lovit. Unii L-au pălmuit,

Then they spit in his face and buffeted him, and others smote him with the staves,

68 z icând: „Profeţeşte-ne, Cristoase, cine este cel ce Te-a lovit?“ Lepădarea lui Petru

saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ; who is he that smote thee?

69 P etru stătea afară, în curte. A venit la el o slujnică şi i-a zis: – Şi tu erai cu Isus, galileeanul!

¶ Now Peter sat outside in the patio; and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

70 Î nsă el s-a lepădat înaintea tuturor, zicând: – Nu ştiu despre ce vorbeşti.

But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

71 C ând s-a îndreptat spre poartă, l-a văzut o altă slujnică, care le-a zis celor de acolo: – Acesta era cu Isus din Nazaret!

And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him and said unto those that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72 E l s-a lepădat din nou, spunând cu jurământ: – Nu-L cunosc pe Acest Om!

And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

73 D upă puţin timp însă cei ce stăteau acolo au venit şi i-au zis lui Petru: – Cu siguranţă şi tu eşti unul dintre ei, căci te dă de gol accentul!

And after a while those that stood by came unto him and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech makes thee manifest.

74 A tunci el a început să se blesteme şi să jure, zicând: – Nu-L cunosc pe Acest Om! Şi imediat a cântat cocoşul.

Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew.

75 A tunci Petru şi-a adus aminte cuvântul pe care i-l spusese Isus: „Înainte de cântatul cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!“ Şi a ieşit afară şi a plâns cu amar.

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. And he went out and wept bitterly.
