1 I ar tu înalţă un cântec de jale despre prinţii lui Israel!

¶ And take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

2 S pune: „Ce era mama ta? Era o leoaică printre lei! Ea stătea întinsă în mijlocul leilor tineri, crescându-şi puii.

and thou shalt say, How hast thy mother, the lioness, lain down among the lions? She raised her whelps among the young lions.

3 L -a crescut pe unul din puii ei şi acesta a devenit un leu tânăr. El s-a obişnuit să sfâşie prada şi a ajuns să mănânce oameni.

And she brought up one of her whelps; it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey and to devour men.

4 C ând au auzit neamurile despre el, l-au prins în groapa lor şi l-au dus în lanţuri în ţara Egiptului.

The Gentiles also heard of him; he was taken in their trap, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.

5 C ând şi-a văzut aşteptarea neîmplinită şi speranţa spulberată, leoaica l-a luat pe un alt pui de-al ei şi l-a pus leu conducător.

Now when she saw that she had waited a long time and her hope was being lost, then she took another of her whelps and made him a young lion.

6 E l a umblat printre lei până a devenit un leu tânăr. A învăţat să sfâşie prada şi a ajuns să mănânce oameni.

And he went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion and learned to catch the prey and devoured men.

7 D ădea buzna în fortăreţele oamenilor şi le devasta cetăţile. Ţara, cu tot ce cuprindea ea, era îngrozită la auzul răgetului său.

And he knew their widows, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fullness thereof, by the voice of his roaring.

8 A tunci neamurile din provinciile vecine s-au îndreptat împotriva lui, şi-au aruncat plasa asupra lui şi el a fost prins în groapa lor.

Then the Gentiles set against him on every side from the provinces and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.

9 L -au pus într-o cuşcă, în lanţuri, l-au dus la împăratul Babilonului şi l-au aşezat în temniţă, ca să nu i se mai audă glasul pe munţii lui Israel.

And they put him in prison in chains and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into fortresses that his voice should no longer be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

10 M ama ta era ca o viţă în via ta, plantată lângă ape. Datorită belşugului de apă, ea era roditoare şi plină de mlădiţe.

¶ Thy mother was like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters, bearing fruit and spreading forth branches by reason of the many waters.

11 M lădiţele ei erau aşa de tari, încât se puteau face din ele sceptre domneşti. Ea se înălţa prin frunzişul stufos, şi se făcea observată prin înălţimea ei şi prin mulţimea mlădiţelor ei.

And she had strong rods for the sceptres of those that bore rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height and with the multitude of her branches.

12 D ar a fost smulsă cu furie şi aruncată la pământ. Vântul de răsărit a făcut-o să se ofilească, roadele i-au fost zdrobite, iar mlădiţele ei cele tari s-au uscat şi au fost arse de foc.

But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit; her branches were broken, and she withered; fire consumed the rod of her strength.

13 A cum ea este plantată în pustie, într-un pământ uscat şi secetos.

And now she is planted in the wilderness in a dry and thirsty ground.

14 D in butucul ei a ieşit un foc, care i-a mistuit roadele. Şi astfel nu a mai rămas în ea nici o mlădiţă tare, care să fie bună pentru un sceptru domnesc. Acesta este un cântec de jale; să fie cântat ca un cântec de jale.“

And fire is gone out of the rod from her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule has remained in her. This is a lamentation and shall be for a lamentation.
