1 Î n timp ce Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda, se întorcea cu bine acasă, la Ierusalim,

¶ And Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

2 i -a ieşit înainte Iehu, fiul văzătorului Hanani. Acesta i-a zis regelui Iehoşafat: „Tu ajuţi pe cel nelegiuit şi iubeşti pe cel ce Îl urăşte pe Domnul ? Din această cauză mânia Domnului este împotriva ta!

And Jehu, the son of Hanani, the seer, went out to meet him and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should thou help the ungodly and love those that hate the LORD? Therefore, the wrath of the presence of the LORD shall be upon thee.

3 T otuşi au fost găsite şi lucruri bune în tine, căci ai distrus aşerele din ţară şi te-ai hotărât în inima ta să-L cauţi pe Dumnezeu.“ Reformele legislative ale lui Iehoşafat

Nevertheless, good things have been found in thee, in that thou hast burned down the groves of the land and hast prepared thy heart to seek God.

4 I ehoşafat a continuat să locuiască la Ierusalim. Apoi a mai ieşit o dată în mijlocul poporului, străbătând ţara de la Beer-Şeba până la regiunea muntoasă a lui Efraim şi i-a adus înapoi pe cei din popor la Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor.

And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem, and he went out again through the people from Beersheba to Mount Ephraim and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.

5 I ehoşafat a rânduit judecători în ţară, în toate cetăţile fortificate ale lui Iuda, în fiecare cetate.

¶ And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,

6 E l le-a zis judecătorilor: „Aveţi grijă ce faceţi, căci nu judecaţi pentru un om, ci pentru Domnul, Care este cu voi când rostiţi sentinţa!

and said to the judges, Take heed what ye do, for ye do not judge for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the word of judgment.

7 Ş i acum, groaza Domnului să fie peste voi! Vegheaţi şi împliniţi-vă bine slujba, căci la Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, nu există nedreptate, părtinire sau mită!“

Therefore, now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it, for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

8 D e asemenea, Iehoşafat a rânduit şi la Ierusalim pe unii dintre leviţi, dintre preoţi şi dintre căpeteniile de familii din Israel ca să se ocupe de judecata Domnului şi de neînţelegeri; aceştia s-au stabilit la Ierusalim.

Moreover, in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat placed some of the Levites and of the priests and of the heads of the fathers of Israel for the judgment of the LORD and for controversies. And they returned to Jerusalem.

9 E l le-a poruncit următoarele: „Să lucraţi în frică de Domnul, cu credincioşie şi din toată inima!

And he charged them, saying, Ye shall proceed thus in the fear of the LORD, in truth and with a perfect heart.

10 Î n orice neînţelegere care ajunge la voi de la fraţii voştri, care locuiesc în cetăţile lor, neînţelegere cu privire la un omor sau cu privire la o lege, o poruncă, o reglementare sau o hotărâre, voi va trebui să-i învăţaţi, ca astfel să nu se facă vinovaţi faţă de Domnul şi mânia Lui să nu izbucnească peste voi şi peste cei din poporul vostru. Faceţi aşa şi nu veţi fi vinovaţi!

In whatever case that shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes or rights, ye shall warn them lest they become guilty against the LORD so that wrath will not come upon you and upon your brethren. Doing thus, ye shall not be guilty.

11 I ată, preotul Amaria este căpetenia voastră pentru toate treburile Domnului, iar Zebadia, fiul lui Ismael, este liderul Casei lui Iuda pentru toate treburile regelui; totodată leviţii vor sluji înaintea voastră ca dregători. Întăriţi-vă şi lucraţi, iar Domnul să fie cu cel ce face binele!“

Behold, Amariah, the high priest, who shall be over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah, the son of Ishmael, prince of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; and the Levites who shall be teachers before you. Take courage and do, for the LORD shall be with the good.
