1 I sus a început să le vorbească din nou în pilde şi le-a zis:

¶ And Jesus answered and spoke unto them again by parables and said,

2 „ Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu poate fi asemănată cu un împărat care i-a făcut nuntă fiului său.

The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a certain man, a king, who made a marriage feast for his son

3 E l şi-a trimis sclavii să-i cheme pe cei invitaţi la nuntă, dar aceştia n-au vrut să vină.

and sent forth his slaves to call those that were invited to the wedding, and they would not come.

4 A trimis din nou alţi sclavi, zicându-le: «Spuneţi-le celor invitaţi: ‘Iată, am pregătit masa, boii şi animalele îngrăşate au fost tăiate şi toate sunt pregătite! Veniţi deci la nuntă!’»

Again, he sent forth other slaves, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my bulls and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come unto the marriage.

5 D ar invitaţii nu le-au dat nici o atenţie şi au plecat, unul la ogorul lui, iar altul la negustoria lui.

But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise,

6 C eilalţi i-au înşfăcat pe sclavi, i-au maltratat şi i-au omorât.

and the others took his slaves and entreated them spitefully and slew them.

7 Î mpăratul s-a mâniat foarte tare. El şi-a trimis trupele, i-a nimicit pe ucigaşii aceia şi le-a ars cetatea.

But when the king heard of this, he became angry and sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.

8 A poi le-a zis sclavilor săi: «Nunta este pregătită, dar cei invitaţi n-au fost vrednici de ea.

Then he said to his slaves, The wedding is ready, but those who were called were not worthy.

9 M ergeţi, aşadar, la răspântiile drumurilor şi chemaţi-i la nuntă pe toţi aceia pe care îi găsiţi!»

Go ye therefore into the entrances of the highways and call as many as ye shall find to the marriage.

10 S clavii aceia au ieşit pe drumuri şi i-au adunat pe toţi aceia pe care i-au găsit, şi răi, şi buni; şi sala nunţii s-a umplut de oaspeţi.

So those slaves went out into the highways and gathered together everyone that they found, both bad and good; and the wedding was filled with guests.

11 C ând împăratul a venit să-şi vadă oaspeţii, a văzut acolo un om care nu se îmbrăcase în haină de nuntă

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment,

12 ş i l-a întrebat: – Prietene, cum ai intrat aici fără să ai haină de nuntă? Acesta a amuţit.

and he said unto him, Friend, how didst thou come in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 A tunci împăratul le-a zis slujitorilor: – Legaţi-l de mâini şi de picioare şi aruncaţi-l în întunericul de afară! Acolo va fi plânsul şi scrâşnirea dinţilor!

Then the king said to the slaves, Bind him hand and foot and take him away and cast him into the darkness outside; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 C ăci mulţi sunt chemaţi, dar puţini sunt aleşi.“ Tributul datorat Cezarului

For many are called, but few are chosen.

15 A tunci fariseii s-au dus şi s-au sfătuit cum să-L prindă în cursă cu vorba.

¶ Then the Pharisees left and took counsel how they might entangle him in his word.

16 I -au trimis la El pe ucenicii lor împreună cu irodienii, care I-au zis: – Învăţătorule, ştim că eşti corect şi că-i înveţi pe oameni calea lui Dumnezeu în adevăr, fără să-Ţi pese de nimeni, căci nu cauţi la faţa oamenilor.

And they sent out unto him their disciples with those of Herod, saying, Master, we know that thou art a lover of truth and teachest the way of God with truth and that thou takest care for no man, for thou art no respecter of persons of men.

17 A şadar, spune-ne, ce părere ai: se cuvine să-i plătim tribut Cezarului sau nu?

Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar or not?

18 I sus însă a înţeles intenţia lor rea şi le-a zis: – De ce Mă puneţi la încercare, ipocriţilor?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 A rătaţi-Mi moneda pentru tribut! Ei I-au adus un denar.

Show me the coin of the tribute. And they presented unto him a denarius.

20 I sus i-a întrebat: – Chipul acesta şi inscripţia, ale cui sunt?

And he said unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 – Ale Cezarului, au răspuns ei. Atunci El le-a zis: – Daţi-i deci Cezarului ce este al Cezarului, iar lui Dumnezeu ce este al lui Dumnezeu!

They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then said he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.

22 E i au rămas uimiţi când au auzit aceste cuvinte. Şi astfel L-au lăsat şi au plecat. Despre înviere

When they had heard these words, they marvelled and left him and went away.

23 Î n aceeaşi zi au venit la El saducheii, care zic că nu există înviere, şi L-au întrebat:

¶ The same day the Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

24 – Învăţătorule, Moise a zis că, dacă moare cineva fără să aibă copii, fratele acestuia trebuie să se căsătorească cu văduva şi să-i ridice un urmaş fratelui său.

saying, Master, Moses said, If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

25 E rau printre noi şapte fraţi. Primul s-a căsătorit, dar a murit fără să aibă vreun urmaş, lăsându-i-o astfel pe soţia sa fratelui său.

Now there were with us seven brothers, and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no seed, left his wife unto his brother;

26 A şa s-a întâmplat şi cu al doilea, şi cu al treilea, apoi tot aşa până la al şaptelea.

likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

27 F emeia a murit ultima dintre toţi.

And last of all the woman died also.

28 L a înviere, soţia căruia dintre cei şapte va fi ea? Căci toţi au avut-o de soţie!

Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

29 I sus le-a răspuns: – Sunteţi rătăciţi, pentru că nu cunoaşteţi nici Scripturile, nici puterea lui Dumnezeu!

Then Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

30 C ăci la înviere nici nu se vor mai însura, nici nu se vor mai mărita, ci vor fi ca îngerii din cer.

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

31 I ar cu privire la învierea morţilor, n-aţi citit ce v-a spus Dumnezeu, când zice:

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which is spoken unto you by God, who saith,

32 „ Eu sunt Dumnezeul lui Avraam, Dumnezeul lui Isaac şi Dumnezeul lui Iacov“? El nu este un Dumnezeu al celor morţi, ci al celor vii!

I AM the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

33 A uzind aceste lucruri, mulţimile erau uimite de învăţătura Lui. Cea mai mare poruncă

And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

34 C ând au auzit fariseii că Isus le astupase gura saducheilor, s-au strâns la un loc.

¶ Then the Pharisees, hearing that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered together.

35 U nul dintre ei, un expert în Lege, ca să-L pună la încercare, L-a întrebat:

And one of them, who was an interpreter of the law, asked him a question, tempting him and saying,

36 – Învăţătorule, care este cea mai mare poruncă din Lege?

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 I sus i-a răspuns: – „Să-L iubeşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, cu toată inima ta, cu tot sufletul tău şi cu toată mintea ta“.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.

38 A ceasta este cea dintâi şi cea mai mare poruncă.

This is the first and great commandment.

39 I ar a doua, asemenea ei, este: „Să-l iubeşti pe semenul tău ca pe tine însuţi“.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 T oată Legea şi Profeţii depind de aceste două porunci. Al cui fiu este Cristos?

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

41 Î n timp ce fariseii erau strânşi la un loc, Isus a întrebat:

¶ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 – Ce părere aveţi voi despre Cristos? Al cui Fiu este El? Ei I-au răspuns: – Al lui David.

saying, What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

43 I sus le-a zis: – Cum atunci David, în Duhul, Îl numeşte „Domn“, când spune:

He said unto them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 „ Domnul I-a zis Domnului meu: «Şezi la dreapta Mea până-Ţi voi pune duşmanii sub picioare!»“?

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45 D eci, dacă David Îl numeşte „Domn“, cum este El Fiul lui?

If David then calls him Lord, how is he his son?

46 N imeni n-a putut să-I răspundă nici măcar un cuvânt şi, din acea zi, nimeni n-a mai îndrăznit să-I pună întrebări.

And no one was able to answer him a word, neither dared anyone from that day forth ask him any more questions.
