1 A nd Jesus answering spoke to them again in parables, saying,

¶ And Jesus answered and spoke unto them again by parables and said,

2 T he kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,

The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a certain man, a king, who made a marriage feast for his son

3 a nd sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.

and sent forth his slaves to call those that were invited to the wedding, and they would not come.

4 A gain he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.

Again, he sent forth other slaves, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my bulls and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come unto the marriage.

5 B ut they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.

But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise,

6 A nd the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew.

and the others took his slaves and entreated them spitefully and slew them.

7 A nd the king was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

But when the king heard of this, he became angry and sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.

8 T hen he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;

Then he said to his slaves, The wedding is ready, but those who were called were not worthy.

9 g o therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.

Go ye therefore into the entrances of the highways and call as many as ye shall find to the marriage.

10 A nd those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.

So those slaves went out into the highways and gathered together everyone that they found, both bad and good; and the wedding was filled with guests.

11 A nd the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment,

12 A nd he says to him, friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.

and he said unto him, Friend, how didst thou come in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 T hen said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Then the king said to the slaves, Bind him hand and foot and take him away and cast him into the darkness outside; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 F or many are called ones, but few chosen ones.

For many are called, but few are chosen.

15 T hen went the Pharisees and held a council how they might ensnare him in speaking.

¶ Then the Pharisees left and took counsel how they might entangle him in his word.

16 A nd they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person;

And they sent out unto him their disciples with those of Herod, saying, Master, we know that thou art a lover of truth and teachest the way of God with truth and that thou takest care for no man, for thou art no respecter of persons of men.

17 t ell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar or not?

18 B ut Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 S hew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.

Show me the coin of the tribute. And they presented unto him a denarius.

20 A nd he says to them, Whose this image and superscription?

And he said unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 T hey say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then said he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.

22 A nd when they heard, they wondered, and left him, and went away.

When they had heard these words, they marvelled and left him and went away.

23 O n that day came to him Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him,

¶ The same day the Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

24 s aying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.

saying, Master, Moses said, If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

25 N ow there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.

Now there were with us seven brothers, and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no seed, left his wife unto his brother;

26 I n like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.

likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

27 A nd last of all the woman also died.

And last of all the woman died also.

28 I n the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?

Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

29 A nd Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

Then Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

30 F or in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

31 B ut concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which is spoken unto you by God, who saith,

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of dead, but of living.

I AM the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

33 A nd when the crowds heard they were astonished at his doctrine.

And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

34 B ut the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together.

¶ Then the Pharisees, hearing that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered together.

35 A nd one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying,

And one of them, who was an interpreter of the law, asked him a question, tempting him and saying,

36 T eacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 A nd he said to him, Thou shalt love Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy understanding.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.

38 T his is great and first commandment.

This is the first and great commandment.

39 A nd second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 O n these two commandments the whole law and the prophets hang.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

41 A nd the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus demanded of them,

¶ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 s aying, What think ye concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, David's.

saying, What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

43 H e says to them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,

He said unto them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 T he Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand until I put thine enemies under thy feet?

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45 I f therefore David call him Lord, how is he his son?

If David then calls him Lord, how is he his son?

46 A nd no one was able to answer him a word, nor did any one dare from that day to question him any more.

And no one was able to answer him a word, neither dared anyone from that day forth ask him any more questions.
