Matthew 13 ~ Matthew 13

1 A nd that day Jesus went out from the house and sat down by the sea.

¶ The same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea side.

2 A nd great crowds were gathered together to him, so that going on board ship himself he sat down, and the whole crowd stood on the shore.

And a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship and sat, and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3 A nd he spoke to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went out to sow:

And he spoke many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;

4 a nd as he sowed, some fell along the way, and the birds came and devoured them;

and when he sowed, some of the seed fell beside the way, and the fowls came and devoured them up.

5 a nd others fell upon the rocky places where they had not much earth, and immediately they sprang up out of because of not having depth of earth,

Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth; and forthwith they sprang up because they had no deepness of earth;

6 b ut when the sun rose they were burned up, and because of not having root were dried up;

and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

7 a nd others fell upon the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them;

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

8 a nd others fell upon the good ground, and produced fruit, one a hundred, one sixty, and one thirty.

But some fell into good ground and brought forth fruit: one a hundredfold and another sixtyfold and another thirtyfold.

9 H e that has ears, let him hear.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

10 A nd the disciples came up and said to him, Why speakest thou to them in parables?

Then the disciples came and said unto him, Why dost thou speak unto them in parables?

11 A nd he answering said to them, Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given;

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given.

12 f or whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall be caused to be in abundance; but he who has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

13 F or this cause I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear nor understand;

Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14 a nd in them is filled up the prophecy of Esaias, which says, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and beholding ye shall behold and not see;

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive;

15 f or the heart of this people has grown fat, and they have heard heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes as asleep, lest they should see with the eyes, and hear with the ears, and understand with the heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 B ut blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear;

But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

17 f or verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous have desired to see the things which ye behold and did not see, and to hear the things which ye hear and did not hear.

For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them.

18 Y e, therefore, hear the parable of the sower.

Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 F rom every one who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand, the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in his heart: this is he that is sown by the wayside.

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who was planted beside the way.

20 B ut he that is sown on the rocky places—this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,

But he that was planted in stony places, the same is he that hears the word and receives it immediately with joy;

21 b ut has no root in himself, but is for a time only; and when tribulation or persecution happens on account of the word, he is immediately offended.

yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22 A nd he that is sown among the thorns—this is he who hears the word, and the anxious care of this life, and the deceit of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

And he that was planted among the thorns is he that hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

23 B ut he that is sown upon the good ground—this is he who hears and understands the word, who bears fruit also, and produces, one a hundred, one sixty, and one thirty.

But he that was planted in good ground is he that hears the word and understands it and who also bears the fruit and brings forth: one a hundredfold and another sixty and another thirty.

24 A nother parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man sowing good seed in his field;

¶ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is likened unto a man who sows good seed in his field

25 b ut while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amongst the wheat, and went away.

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.

26 B ut when the blade shot up and produced fruit, then appeared the darnel also.

But when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then the tares appeared also.

27 A nd the bondmen of the householder came up and said to him, Sir, hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whence then has it darnel?

So the slaves of the husband of the house came and said unto him, Lord, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? From where then does it have tares?

28 A nd he said to them, A man an enemy has done this. And the bondmen said to him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather it ?

He said unto them, The enemy, a man, has done this. The slaves said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 B ut he said, No; lest gathering the darnel ye should root up the wheat with it.

But he said, No, lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 S uffer both to grow together unto the harvest, and in time of the harvest I will say to the harvestmen, Gather first the darnel, and bind it into bundles to burn it; but the wheat bring together into my granary.

Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.

31 A nother parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard which a man took and sowed in his field;

He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

32 w hich is less indeed than all seeds, but when it is grown is greater than herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and roost in its branches.

which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and make their nests in its branches.

33 H e spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened.

He spoke another parable unto them: The kingdom of the heavens is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

34 A ll these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without a parable he did not speak to them,

Jesus spoke all these things unto the multitude in parables and said nothing unto them without parables

35 s o that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from world's foundation.

that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

36 T hen, having dismissed the crowds, he went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Expound to us the parable of the darnel of the field.

Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37 B ut he answering said, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man,

He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;

38 a nd the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil;

the field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked;

39 a nd the enemy who has sowed it is the devil; and the harvest is completion of age, and the harvestmen are angels.

and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

40 A s then the darnel is gathered and is burned in the fire, thus it shall be in the completion of the age.

As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this age.

41 T he Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all offences, and those that practise lawlessness;

The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and those who do iniquity

42 a nd they shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43 T hen the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that has ears, let him hear.

Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

44 T he kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.

¶ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto treasure hid in the field, which when found, a man hides it and, for the joy thereof, goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 A gain, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls;

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls,

46 a nd having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.

who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47 A gain, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine which has been cast into the sea, and which has gathered together of every kind,

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a net that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind of fish,

48 w hich, when it has been filled, having drawn up on the shore and sat down, they gathered the good into vessels and cast the worthless out.

which, when it was full, they drew to shore and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

49 T hus shall it be in the completion of the age: the angels shall go forth and sever the wicked from the midst of the just,

So shall it be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth and separate the wicked from among the just

50 a nd shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

51 J esus says to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea,.

Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.

52 A nd he said to them, For this reason every scribe discipled to the kingdom of the heavens is like a man a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.

And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53 A nd it came to pass when Jesus had finished these parables he withdrew thence.

¶ And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.

54 A nd having come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, Whence has this this wisdom and these works of power?

And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished and said, From where does this man have this wisdom and these mighty works?

55 I s not this the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?

Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

56 A nd his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then has this all these things?

And his sisters, are they not all with us? From where then does this man have all these things?

57 A nd they were offended in him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, unless in his country and in his house.

And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.

58 A nd he did not there many works of power, because of their unbelief.

And he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
